That was one of the WORST performances I have ever seen by a Free Safety.

    Wow..

I'll expand on it tomorrow, but that was disgusting and Jones should never touch the field again as the communicator of our defense while Clemons is still here.

Proof once again that stats don't mean poop: Reshad Jones led the team with 11 tackles against the Patriots, but looked for all the world like a spectator out there.

The next-leading tackler was Bell with 7.

Completely agree. He has no idea what he is doing on the field. He is completely out of position on that Welker TD.

Was Clemons injured? Why in hell would you take Clemons out who is someone you KNOW is a safe dependable guy back there that doesn't make mistakes? Why replace him with Jones who is an unknown there and is a risk taker? I expected Jones to replace Bell when Bell retires but this game time decision was freakin nonsense! FML!

I thought Jones was okay. Guy has playmaker ability in a secondary that lacks that. Not sure how u blame the long welker td on him? Blitzers didnt get there. Sapp doesnt cover. Yet the single high safety gets the blame?

You don;t watch the games do you?

    Y. Bell actually played WELL. he was in isolated man on man coverage 4 times. the result? 4 targets (Brady is really good) 2 passes defended, one over throw, and 1 catch for 8 yards.

So I guess you found your new scapegoat.

WTF happened to press coverage? We need to bring press coverage back and stop these pansies running slants on us. I liked Surtain and Madison because they were agressive. We need to go back to playing fundamently sound quarters coverage or cover 2. I'm so annoyed that someone can throw that many yards on this team.

The culprits were Will Allen's replacement, Reshad Jones, and Benny Sapp.

Thenj Sean Smith got in the act and gave up a couple of plays.

Vontae also gave up a couple of plays.

The whole secondary sucked, save for Y. Bell, and the pass rush was worse.

Nate Solder got owned on one series and then proceeded to erase Cam Wake the rest of the way.

I don't care of God himself came down from the heavens to play QB for a team.
Giving up over 500 yards of passing is absurd HOF player or not, especially when you supposedly have a solid defense.
No disrespect to Mr. Brady's performance but that secondary was in complete dissaray tonight along with them getting no help at all from the pass rush.

Half of those completions Ray Lucas could have completed tonight. Recievers and TE's were running absolutely wide open on many occasions.

Sean Smith was really only burnt on a play where he was cramping up. Brady seen that he was limping after the previous play and exploited him in the no huddle. No excuses, but nonetheless...

He gave up that touchdown in zone coverage but other than that... it was all on Carroll and Sapp. Vontae Davis looked bad in the first quarter, but things seemed to quiet down on his end.

I thought it was reported last week that Clemons missed some practices with some kind of injury. They had been rotating them all preseason and calling it an open competition...

Clemons injured a hammy in the last exhibition, but was out there on ST's.

...perhaps they should have rotated :pity:

or waited until Game 2 for Reshad to experience his 2nd game ever as a starter.

He also got trucked by all 150lbs of Danny Woodhead at one point.

I thought the whole secondary sucked ***. Couldn't cover and couldn't tackle or in SS24 case, didn't want to tackle.

I know we're all pissed off about the loss, but that statement was completely ignorant. our defense could have played better, but Brady was on a #$@# mission tonight and would have passed for 400 yards against anyone in the NFL last night. our sloppiness gave him the extra 100 yards.

Look Brady is great, every now and then a great Qb just goes off but over 500 yds and 4 Tds is the kind of game that gets guys cut and coaches fired. You simply cannot make excuses for our defense, we should be worried, we literally have no shot at the playoffs if this defense is even close to this bad. We need to address the safety position with a high draft pick in the offseason IMO.

The dude that was starting for these guys and did a decent job last year is still on the roster. Enough with the pick nonsense, Sparano is to blame. Even Ireland's stupid decisions pale compared to how poorly he gets guys ready. Can anybody explain me to why Pouncey is underweight?

I would concur with this, the only exception being I would prefer to split hairs, and estimate 300 yds on OUR defense, with 200 extra charged on this evening's sloppiness.

That is true, the D was just shredded, worse then used to happen during the "golden era" of Marino.

They looked out of shape, and disinterested.

I think the issue falls to conditioning. We got worked on the first drive, and before the half started to dig in a little. We held a high scoring team to 14 before the half, not great, but not awful.

The problems come in after that first drive to return from the half. From there on out it was just painful to watch. I don't even think the term "sucking air" quite covers it. You'd have thought the Patriots destroyed us in the time of possession category based on how badly those guys looked winded. Who is to blame for that is really irrelevant. That's what needs to be fixed.

The pass rush really didn't give the secondary much help. Not to say they didn't play like crap, but you can't expect them to cover that receiver stable for 5-6 seconds. Just the same that when the rushers actually got penetration and got close to Brady quickly, the secondary was out of position. It seemed like the entire night when one unit started to come on, the other broke down.

Plenty of blame for the defence it was a group effort. Many times more than one player seemed out of position to make a play and appeared to be be confused on what was going on and what they were supposed to do.Hope some of these are fixable soon.I'm sure there will be a players cut after that.

On that TD he gave up, he was in Zone coverage, but he needs to flatten out and take away that out pattern. That ball should be HIS. as in...the worst thing that happens is that he knocks it down. The reason that zone gets called is to take away that pattern specifically.

I thought Bell played the best of all the secondary. SS24 will be alright too. To be honest I am not sure if the zone touchdown was all on him, maybe there was someone else in his zone?

Frankly, Sapp's and Jones' sloppiness gave Brady 100 extra yards on one play. Jones should have made the tackle since no one was behind him but Sapp should have grabbed Welkers arm instead of trying at his jersey. Sapp also got his hand at Welkers foot but 83 just powered through it. Jones was the last line of defense and shouldnt have taken that risk at that point.

You never want your FS leading the team in tackles anyhow, so it I kind of does tell you something.

It's clear Sparano preferred Jones over Clemons because of the "playmaking aspect". Well, there were certainly many plays made involving Reshad Jones...

OK. I think it might be time to calm down for Fins fans. I mean now we're blaming the weight of a player, one that actually performed well, on the coach. That's a non-issue to begin with, but we're just grasping for straws here.

For me, the guys that should take the most blame in the secondary are Vontae Davis, Sean Smith & Benny Sapp. Nolan Carroll was put in a difficult position with the cramping of Davis & Smith. We saw it in the Dallas game. The NYJ were able to move the ball and attack when Mike Jenkins & Scandrick were out, attacking Ball & McCann. You're #4 DB is that for a reason and is generally a strong ST's performer.

Davis, Smith & Sapp are the most tenured of the players back there (along with Bell, but I thought he played really well, same consistency as always). Vontae Davis had a really poor game. He went out of the game with cramps, and when he came back in, he was poor again. I wonder if he's struggling with speed, or players are just putting double moves on him and it's his aggressiveness that is getting the best of him. Whatever it is, it's a struggle.

Reshad Jones didn't play well, but again, it's the guys first start. He played against an incredible offense. He played against one of the best QB's in the history of the game. The ran an offensive scheme, no huddle, that was difficult for our entire defense, including coaching staff, to handle.

The 99 yd TD was far from his fault. He's in single high coverage in an all out blitz. You're putting all the onus on your CB's there. What's nuts is that in the replays, it's his athleticism that gets him remotely close to making a play there. That's a play where if Chris Clemons is in the game, I don't see any other different outcome.
