Both running backs of course. With LJ not getting any work tonight i wonder if he got hurt before the game? Not sure how either back helps our short yardage offense.

    We miss you Ricky Williams.

If you think about it, twice they got to the goal-line. Settled for 3 points out of that. Failing the 2nd time allowed the Pats to score a 99 yard TD, which would've never happened had Miami scored, would've cut the lead to 7 with plenty of time...

Anxious to see what happens in Texans game. Will defense play like a Top 10 team? Will Henne have another solid game? Call better running plays?

And I had no idea Westbrook was around...he's performed better than LJ the past 3 years. Why didn't they go for him to begin with?

Westbrook has made sense since we traded for Bush. They're only coming around to that now.

But no, he's not the goal-line Back we need.

Only way to fix the goal line offense is to fix our interior line play.

Anyone want to continue to tell me how this management team did not fail in managing the personnel on the OL and RB positions?

They are proving it at the RB position themselves by their desperation moves now.

What has Larry Johnson done that's pissed them off so badly? Westbrook did play well in San Francisco last year and is an excellent pass-catcher for Henne as is Thomas so that part of the equation is taken care of. Now the facking interior OL.

they spent a 1st round pick on Pouncey, who played well last night. They spent a 2nd round pick on Thomas, at least wait til midseason before giving up on the guy.
they brought in R Bush, who played well last night.

you want to complain about the backup RB position. totally valid and I agree with that one. But to say they did nothing to try and improve it is just plain myopic.
guess what? we also had other holes to fill.

Larry Johnson should have been used on the goal line, Thomas and Clay will be used when healthy.

Westbrook would not have helped on the goal line.

They should be looking at Shuan O'Hara, not a running back.

Sure, do you wish to tell anyone that the offense was the problem?

Clayton was with the Browns (Daboll) twice last year. And the Patriots three times last year.

    So there's that.

The lack of a running game sure as hell didn't help.

I'm still wondering why Larry Johnson is on the team then? What is his role or purpose? Is he just an emergence if everyone else is hurt?

I thought Larry would have been a nice player to feature on the goal-line in a few instances. Brian Westbrook isn't an answer.

Why didnt we run Lex at the goal line. He picked up the 4 & 1 and scored in the Panthers game. Give him a chance. I bet he has a higher success rate than the fade to Hartline.

They did run him behind Soliai earlier, and he got stoned. We have an offense that can't pick up 1 yard on the ground when they need it.

we did run Lex on a fourth down short yardage situation (wasn't at the goal line) and picked up a first down. It was the Lou Polite fullback dive play and it worked. Then we didn't use it the rest of the game :pity:

Exactly. It may have prevented the 2 of 14 third down conversion rate. That was where the game was lost. You didn't keep your defense off the field, and then the hurry up offense, killed us.

I think Lousaka Polite could've meant at least an extra 7 points on the board last night.

So the new coach next season has to draft a running back, oline, and defense.

We might as well have another pass catching RB who can't move the pile.

Yep another PG County, MD product to add to the roster. He went to DeMatha H.S. same as Wake. DC connection is deep on the Phins.

I love the idea of Westbrook coming to this team. He is a great catcher which will be a huge advantage. I have no doubt that until we fix the O line issues are backs wont matter. Pouncey was beat last night a few times. But he is a rookie and i was extremely glad to see what he could do. Long looked like a vet who hasn't been in a game scenario the later it was in the game the more tired he looked. The right side i say get the pitchforks...Everyone knows we need someone else there but who is avialable.

Westbrook's skill set is not what we need right now; too similar to Reggie.

We need that big bruiser for the short-yardage situations. Someone to run it in at the goalline. Someone like a Lousaka Polite, or Ricky Williams, or Ronnie Brown, or Kory Sheets, or..... oh wait

Kory Sheets? Enough with the ranting. Larry Johnson is a big enough back and he didn't get a carry.

The interior OL was the bigger problem.

Well, the biggest change will have to come from Sparano/Daboll or it won't matter who they bring in.

Personally I like Portis, but think LJ should have touched the ball twice down at the 1 yd line, if the coach is not going to use them, why bother having them?

If we aren't going to sign Polite, we should give Mike Karney a tryout.

They got stoned because size does not a fullback make.. and Soliai stopped running a yard behind the line of scrimmage. I watched it twice.

Actually, now that you mention it; despite what he's listed at, didn't Johnson look a lot smaller than he used to? Comparing him with other players in preseason, I thought he was Nutri-System Larry.

This. Why would you sign Larry Johnson and then not use him in the one place where it makes the most sense?
