You really want someone blood related to the Jets head coach as our guy? Every bad play would be a conspiracy theory.
Honestly, sparano did get outcoached last night, but he also showed me just how serious he was about changing this teams attitude on offense. Henne went down the field all day, we went for it on 4th and short and got it, which led to our opening drive td (since when do we score on the opening drive ever?) We didn't put the ball in the endzone as much as we should but we for sure didn't play for the field goal at any point either. This defense got torched but i think Nolan deserves more **** for that than Sparano. I expect a big performance from them against houston.
If (or is it when?) Tony Sparano and possibly (and maybe deservedly so) Jeff Ireland are gone, I think you certainly have to consider Rob Ryan as a viable candidate for HC.
Parcells guy, huh Nappy. Why not we place the real blame where it belongs? 1st year was nice. Pick up what turns out to be the best OL man in the NFL and the most accurate passer in the NFL history and then break out the wildcat to win an AFC East Championship. The reports I read were that Sparano wanted Chris Palmer as his OC but Henning was in because he's a Parcells guy too. And don't even get me started on Pasqualoni. How many of these rejects are still coaching in the NFL. It's pretty easy to see that Parcells had less to do last year and nothing to do this year in the draft as most of the guys are still on the team. Sparano has 1 year in a do or die situation and I have his back.
I'm encouraged that he changed his philosophies during the offseason. At the same time though when you turn to guys like Reggie Bush, Richie Incognito, Marc Colombo, and Jason Taylor, it's hard to get behind him. And congruently, it's hard to keep backing Jeff Ireland as his foresight on positions of QB, TE, pass-rushers, and safety has been pretty off. That article about their philosophy on QBs last week - that line in particular of being too scared of the ramifications of a highly drafted QB busting - well, that says all we really need to know about Bill Parcells, and this front office. Last night's game notwithstanding, but, to borrow from Sparano, based on their whole "body of work", I'm ready to be rid of them. This season could sway my opinion, but I won't believe it until I see it.
I've thought of Rob too. Thing is though, his defenses have never been as good as Rex's were as a DC, or at least that is my recollection. Rex seemed be on a few team's short list even before the Jets got him, but I have never heard even once of Rob getting an HC interview and it could be he is content just running a defense.
I would let Cowher make that decision. If he wanted to hire Ryan as Asst, HC/DC and take over when Cowher moves up to the FO, then let that be his call.
I was mildly surprised that he was not hired as a HC this offseason, but in Miami? No thanks, ditto Cowher, if Sparano has a bad yr and is properly fired, I want an OFFENSIVE minded HC, ye olde new HC means..."we will run the ball and play good defense and special teams". Has not worked since Shula retired, JJ, Wanny, Saban, Sparano's first 3 yrs, however I'm happy with the Offense so far, who knows where we end up this yr?
Well, one good thing if Rob became our coach would be that before and after every game we'd get to see him and Rex kiss each other...on the lips. How about having that image burned into your brain? http://www.onionsportsnetwork.com/articles/rex-ryan-rob-ryan-announce-that-they-are-brothers,21311/
I can't speculate about our next coach until we have a reason to have a next coach. There are 15 more games to go, let's see what Sparano can cook up. Let's not hang the guy off of Monday's performance. If we start off 0-4, then let's talk. (we're not going to BTW).
Well as long he's serious... no worries that he's appeared to be out of his league time and time again.
There's more than just Monday to hang him with. If not Ross wouldn't have been out in San Francisco last January.
I would not be happy with the choice of Ryan as the next head coach. I would prefer to see Ross hire one of the following: John Gruden Bill Cowher Jeff Fisher I question if Cowher really wants to get back into coaching but if he does, he would be my first choice. I've always liked Gruden and I think Fisher just stayed in Tennessee too long. Any one of these would be a giant upgrade over Sparano.
I honestly believe Sparano survives. Look I know e got beat Monday and alot pissed me off, but it was NE, a team that is as elite as it comes. On opening week with a grudge. They practiced all camp for this week, for this season. While we were installing, they were fine tuning. WHile we were putting the final core together, they were honing the roster. Henne IMO was awesome, he showed he belonged, he will improve, he already showed that he wont fold, he could have done that after last season, but he busted his *** to get better and gain trust. Run game was bad but it wasnt designed for Busdh to play as much, they are banking on Thomas, so we will see how that comes out when he can play. defense gets better with Will ALlen back if just for his knowledge. he is a leader. We were on our heels Monday in teh front 7, I am dissappointed they werent better prepared for that, but I fully believe they will address this. I hope they put a package defense in for the spread hurry up like Brady and teh pats did so they arent trying to run on personnel, they place within that package and hopefully slow it done and get them out of it. Nolan is smart enough. So basically what I am saying is, while I think we could have beaten NE Monday I think we needed to be perfect cause NE was going to be close to perfect and they were in an est system. Ou offense looked good considering we were 1 dimensional, and I think that will change as the line gels, Long gets his legs and thomas gets healthy that some red zone issues improve
Very true, but he didn't, and he committed, at least tentatively again, to Sparano. As such, we need to give him more than one game, and certainly more than one game against a team that won 14 games last year, and whose QB is a madman against most defenses.
I don't see any reason to automatically assume Rob Ryan would be a good head coach just because his brother is.
I would not mind Gruden, to me the only reason why he is not coaching is financially it is more prudent to not coach, Fisher is waaaay overrated, Cowher lost the fire imo.
I dont think Fishe is overrated, but Gruden would be my choice and it isnt close. I like his intensity, his knowledge, his passion
The only thing I don't like about Gruden is that you'd have to make sure he isn't in control of the personnel. I don't think there are many Head Coaches who have been as poor at choosing personnel as Gruden was in Tampa, where he had total control. Cowher I think would be smart enough to have a strong personnel GM helping him.
How about we finish the season???? One game and we are talking coaches already? next week if we beat the Texans I guess we will see Sparano for coach of the year?
The only way I see Sparano surviving is if the Dolphins make the playoffs this year. Ross was basically ready to fire Sparano after last season, but he couldn't convince Harbaugh to take the job. If Sparano isn't able to provide Ross with evidence that the team is headed in the right direction, he will be headed out the door, and I don't see Ireland far behind. The fact is that the Dolphins chances of making the playoffs this year are extremely low. They are not as good as the Jets and Patriots in the AFC-East and they are going to have a hard time beating out the Bills for third place in the division. If the Dolphins once again finish third in the division, or God forbid last, and Ross decides to stick with Sparano next year. He will be lucky to sell 25,000 season tickets for the 2012 season. If somehow Sparano is able to get this team into the playoffs. He will certainly deserve to be retained as the Head Coach. I just don't see it happening.
No but it is obvious that he is out if Miami goes .500 or less, hell I think the playoffs is the only thing that saves him.....
Give up? I don't know what that has to do with anything. I've said Sparano should go for the last 2 years. Chances are we go into the bye 1-3 or 0-4, and if that happens he's a goner. If he somehow manages to survive that, he doesn't make it past the next NE game.
