Will Allen Re-signed We just signed him to a new 1 year contract. No surprise. EDIT- Sorry, old news, missed the other thread. IGNORE
I've said this a dozen times, but I'd love to see anyone who said this stack what he has done in the same time period against whatever team.
Yeah...glad we resigned LJ as well. Remind me....what did he do again Monday night? I don't recall him taking one snap. Great signing. If it was Cobbs, Sparano would have found a way to get him touches.
I dig it...if he can at least help get guys into position that's a plus...and that position for Mr. Jones is on the bench
I disagree Padre. He isn't close to Charles Woodson or Ronde Barber. Personally, I think Yeremiah Bell was better than Will Allen ever was in 2005 when Saban used him in that nickel/dime package LB role a lot. Ray Crockett was pretty good too with Denver. He got Marino a time or two.
I think Will Allen's veteran leadership will help. He should have a few tricks of the trade. Again, I just want to temper fans expectations here. Will Allen hasn't played in two years and he's 33 now and expected to man a slot CB position which is pretty tough. He'll be matched up with TE's & speedy/quick WR's. Their is this assumption that 2008 Will Allen will appear and be a God-send. I'm hoping for the best, but if he gets hurt, we may be wishing we'd have kept Benny Sapp.
I'd rather Allen spent most of his time covering a receiver. Have a db who is lacking in cover skills do the blitzing, like Wilson, Carroll or Bell.
Glad to have him back, but his age and health are concerns. He can mentor and play part-time and it will be worth it. I don't think we see him perform better than a #3 CB, but that's what we need anyway, right? BTW, I thought Will had already taken a pay cut, and was making less than Benny was? In which case, it was Ireland thinking Sapp had more "upside" than Allen and NOT a money issue. In any case, beat the Texans and things will look good again.
called this all along....this was their plan the whole time. idk who they planned on cutting to bring him back originally but Sapp's usual terrible performance made it an easy decision. Will has plenty left at the nickle CB position imo, glad to see they brought him back
I see Allen will wear #38. Either Jimmy did not want to give up 25 after just getting it, or Allen did not ask.
I had him absolutely making the team off that 1 performance, there were flashes of quickness everywhere, I questioned why he didn't make the team, and the suits finally got it right.. Suits make mistakes, just ask Brian daboll on 4th and 1.
Okay, if we're going to play that game, I'm sure we'll hear from you when Will Allen's tailor mysteriously fails to come through on that golden blazer. After all, he's going to be utterly fantastic this year, right? Right. Oh, and for those of you saying that Will Allen knows the system? He has never played in a regular season game under Mike Nolan.
I'd bump him for Wilson, let him be the 5th and take the chance on wilson..Carroll has shown me 0 since he was drafted.
I would honesty like to see what Wilson has to offer as a FS. He's slightly undersized but he has play-making ability as well as great instincts for the position. Reshad Jones should bulk up a bit and play SS.
They needed a veteran presence in the secondary. If Will Allen is healthy he will improve the secondary and bring some stability to the unit. Tom Brady had the secondary on their heels all night and they never figured out how to compensate. You can bet the other teams will be looking at the NE tape and will try to emulate Brady's game, maybe WA will give the secondary the edge that they need. One things for sure, we can't afford the breakdown that they had in the NE game.
Well there it is, not sure who he will match up on. And this is the first Dolphins v J Allen rematch since he was waived.
signing Will Allen is a good thing. The way the secondary was torched on Monday, it's worth at least giving him a shot. He either plays well enough to stick around or they cut him soon enough. My instincts tell me he might be ok here
Houston will play us in the nickel and dime formations for a large part of this game should be interesting if we see Allen and Bell blitz on occasion. There's no way Schaub can read what the defense is doing as well as Brady can.
The way you made it sound last night was like you had some inside info that he was not going to be signed. Signing Allen is a good thing man! He either plays well enough or he gets cut down the road somewhere. The back end of the secondary needs help and MAYBE he can provide it.
I'd guess if we looked at the entire careers of both, college and NFL combined, Wilson has taken more snaps at corner back, although Wilson's were several years ago for the most part. Carroll missed a lot of games with injuries in college so may be more green when it comes to all the nuances of corner play than Wilson, who just needs to get adjusted to game speed completely. I guess that is a long winded way of saying, I agree. Other than being a good kid, and being athletic and fast, Carroll has not shown very much.
That's George Wilson,Jr., Howard Twilly, Dave Kocourek, Billy Joe, but damifino who's catching the ball, and who #24 is.. Fill me in...... dagnabbit!! Okay... I couldn't post the picture. Can someone advise me how to do that... it's stuck in one of my seldom used memory registers, obviously... as is a lot of stuff nowadays!!!
No, not inside info at all. Just simple observation that Allen didn't play nearly as well as he used to, is likely still injured in some manner, and was not considered good enough to be signed by the other 31 teams. (Which is especially odd considering how much DB talent shifted from team to team this year.) As much as I like Will Allen, no, I can't agree that it's a good thing. It's just an attempt to patch over Ireland's negligence in addressing the secondary in free agency. We needed a free safety and a reliable corner who could push Vontae and Sean, maybe even supplant them. We didn't bother. The result? Regibril Jones was out there giving up touchdowns left and right, and Benny Sapp is now gone. Sorry, I can't endorse panic moves.
I disagree we should of been out there for a top corner, and I challenge anyone to post a link to where they thought we should at any point during the off season. Everyone thought that was one of our deepest positions
Glad to have Will back. At the very least he brings a positive influence and veteran knowledge/leadership. He is a savvy player just hope he has enough left in the tank physically and can stay healthy.
But yet, he was brought to NE and he wanted to wait and see if Miami would come back to him. My response here is from the way you told a poster he was flat out wrong. I wont sit here and say they should not have went after another Cb or better yet, a solid safety but Will Allen played good in his preseason game against Dallas. Scrubs or not, he played well. If he gets hurt, it would not surprise me. If he stays healthy and plays bad it would surprise me big time. A healthy Will Allen won't play bad imo.
Hey FreeStyle, this is for all those who ripped you!!! They were all... WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!
In these pass happy days, it's becoming necessary to have 3 or even 4 high calibre CB's. I think it was felt we had that with getting Allen back, and NC with a year of experience. Allen's health is an issue and NC's obviously too green (at best). If Allen's health comes around we're okay I guess, but if not we have only 2 good CB's and we will be in trouble. Nickel is a very challenging position to play.
