In the past, the defense has kept us in games for the most part of the decade but the offense didnt. Now it has flipped around. If our defense can get its act together, we have the potential to be a pretty dominant team. Thoughts??

Great test this weekend, the Schaub is good at play action fakes, but we have to cover Daniels and Dressen their Te's.

Add in Foster will be back and if the D has it in them, this is a good weekend to show it.

One game doesn't make an offense and conversely doesn't break a defense.

I also realized that at the end of the day, we racked up another loss (and at Home). dont care which side of the ball is doing what, if collectively (including special teams) this doesnt change, than its all the same.

We need a Team. We need them to treat the game as a team, and that means picking each other up, making plays, and winning. that has to change, otherwise its still a pig in a dress.

I'm close to giving up on the idea that this defense can actually cover TEs.

The offense still needs a running game.

At minimum a short yardage power running game.

My thought is that it's rare for a team to put both sides together. and even when you do, special teams will collapse (see CHargers 2010).
My guess is that our offense comes back down to earth a little and our defense comes back to it's former self.

How many defenses actually can? not many. I expect really good numbers from both Hernandez and Gronk by season end.

Good point. I was just thinking about this team's potential this year not mention what it could be when all sides are playing well.

    Well away from here
With regards to a defense, actually it can have a cumulative affect if we don't keep them off the field this week. I think we had 80 plays run against us last week? 80 is a **** load of plays for a defense that was out of game shape to begin with. This defense will be tired, they won't be back in a week given their current fitness level. If the offense can put some long drives together, it will be better for them moving forward. If the defense again sees more 65 plays we will see the affects moving forward towards the bye week.

Defense is played with energy, and if the defense is worn out, we are in big trouble.

How about this time our offense wears out the Texans defense rather than their offense wearing out our defense?

I think most on here realize the Offense isn't as good as it looked and the defense isn't as bad as it looked. The defense picked a terrible time to lay an egg and playing the Patsie's didn't help. I just hope that all 3 phases play a solid game this week.

This weekend defenses surrendered the most passing yards EVER ! Dominant ? Probably not, but 10-6 is a possibility.

After Monday, there is certainly only one way to go, and that's up. Hopefully our defense is pissed and has a fire lit under their collective asses.

Agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment....but mother **** they should have been PISSED with a fire under their asses monday night too. Opening night, at home, vs the pats.... sigh...

This is the key in my opinion. The defense feels embarrassed after what the Pats did to them. Now, we have another high powered offense coming in and it's all going to depend on how we respond. I would love to think that everyone on that side of the ball is now looking for blood and trying to show that Monday night was a fluke. I know the coaching staff will be working endlessly this week to make sure the problems are fixed going into Sunday. The motivation factor is there for us, but we've got to make it happen and be smart. I have confidence in Nolan and the players to get it done and I just hope we can. Winning this game would be huge for us moving forward, especially considering the struggles we've endured at home the past year plus and that we've never beaten the Texans.

I mentioned this in another thread , Miami , offensively finally realizes this is a passing league , and we then see we are not strong enough in the back end and don't have a legitimate second rush player.

I think we see many games similar to Mondays, pass way more than run , put up points , but get points put up on us , probably more often than not.

We will need better secondary play AND pressure , Sundays game will be a HUGE key . We go 0 and 2 and imo we are basically playing the season out. Not impossible , but very hard to make the playoffs after losing your first two games , especially if NE and NY are 2 and 0 .
