My dad just got a phone call from the Fins saying that they had purchased the rest of the tickets in order to have the game on TV and that's as far as my dad's English took him.

He didnt understand whether they would sell the rest to Season Ticket Holders or give them out.

Stay tuned but my dad has no reason to lie about this

    Well done Mr. Ross..

I like the guy as an owner, what we have going for us is that the guy really loves south florida, so he may have the patience to deal with this fanbase.

    hmm....

I'm assuming that if it was cbs4 that was due to the team pushing? Good idea though, fans seem pissed off enough without adding not watching the game on top of that. Though it might turn out worse if the dolphins lose.

Until Mr. Ross fields a team that wins, he's going to have to expect things like CBS4 buying 10,000 tickets. By my count, since he's assumed full control, the Dolphins have gone 14-17 (7-9 in 2009; 7-9 in 2010; 0-1 this year), and 1-9 in his last 10 home games. There aren't many fanbases that would put up with that.

Ok turns out it was both the Phins and Anheuser-Busch who bought up the remaining tickets.

You know...I like Ross, I think he's sincere and tries, but I also think he is almost clueless when it comes to football and the football culture.

    Do you see that too?

They should really hand those tickets out to hardcore Dolphins fans who otherwise couldn't afford it. Give 'em to people who will make a lot of noise to help energize the team and make it hard for the Texans offense to hear.

100% He is a businessman first and foremost, I dont think he bought the team as an investment, because its not a good one at that price. On that note he is definitely a fan, but is young to the game of ownership and it will take time I'd say.

I think on his end, he could promote the hell out of the team if he gets the product right, I think he's done a good job getting fans in the seats during a very substantial rebuild,is not afraid to spend money on his team, and I think he has enthusiasm for south florida {which is VERY important for a myriad of reasons}, so in terms of that football culture context, from a fans perspective, I think he will be good, knowing how to hire the right football people?, don't know yet, I tell you how I feel about that at the bye,and if Sparano and Irish forces him to make his next move..we can only really judge him on what your talking about by his NEXT move ya know?

Another part that I would love for him to act upon is stadium related, I do think we have a current and future problem Nobs, so if he's smart, then he will recognize and do something about it..I'am not saying that its the reason were 1 and 11 in our last 12, I'am sayin it is part of the problem, and imo there is no denying it.

I'm a season ticket holder since the Orange bowl and go to every game.

Thnat said, I don't blame any fan for not going to the game given that the Fins are 1-10 in their last 11 home games.

If you put out a crappy product, don't whine when people won't pay to see your product.

Can I just say, I live in Upstate NY, and would give my left arm, and probably my right leg to be able to have Dolphins season tix. As it is, I always go to the Buffalo game up here, plus usually one more. Last year, I made the trip down for the Cleveland game, and I hope to make it an annual thing starting next year. If I lived w/in two hours of Miami, I'd be a season tix holder, with the logo canopy and flag and all my Dolphin get up for tailgating, etc. And I'm the type of fan that would show up whether we were 16-0, or 0-16 (I went to Buffalo in '07 when we were 0-12!).

I get that a lot of people in SoFla don't go to the games because they are expensive. I get that, completely, and I don't fault people who can't afford it. It's frickn' expensive! But for those of you who can afford it, what's the deal with this? To me, at least, if I was there, I'd be there at every game unless either somebody in my family was sick/ill or dead. But that doesn't seem to be the case for a lot of people down there, what gives?

There arent many fanbases that would put up with 2 middle of the road seasons? There are multiple fan bases that put up with much worse than that... lol

Wait a minute DJ......patience with the fan base ? We have given him one of the best season ticket bases in the NFL until this year. 102, now 103 straight sellouts (and don't give me hell about 1,000 or 2,000 tickets that get bought on some games). Places like Oakland, haven't been on TV for several years. For a number of years the Cardinals didn't sell out except when Dallas, or Pittsburgh came to town.

South Florida has given the Dolphins rather incredible support for the last 10 years without much reward for it. I don't see how you can disagree with that.

I don't doubt your father, but I am very surprised that Ross would step in and buy the remaining tickets. As of early this morning, there were over 10,000 tickets available. Good for him if he did purchase these tickets. Yet if the Dolphins don't win this week and go 0-2 for the season, I wouldn't be surprised if the stadium is half empty by time they return for their next home game in week seven against the Broncos.Lose this week and there is a very good chance the Dolphins will return home 1-4 or possibly 0-5.

The game this week against the Texans is possibly the most important game the Dolphins will play during the entire season. A win and they give back some hope to their fans. Another home loss and with the upcoming schedule, this will only increase the pressure on Sparano, Ireland, Ross, and all the players on the team.

I got the message as well. As a season ticket holder they are giving me free extra tickets to bring additional friends and family to the game. Anyone need some free tickets?????? They said an email with details would be forthcoming, so not sure how many more im gonna get.

Can you read English ? Did I say he was owner for all of those ? And when he took over the team we had 61,000 season ticket holders. His home record as owner is 11-16, and the fan base is tired of losing home records, and losing in general. He inherited a really good season ticket base but because of his mismanagement & bungling has seen it drop by over 16,000.

The fanbase is telling you something Mr. Ross. You'd best listen.

In a heat index of 125+ degrees? Nah...that ****, plus mediocrity are the losing combination for attendance.

Say all you want about Green Bay and its 20-year waiting list; you can layer and bundle up against the cold until it doesn't matter anymore. You can NEVER mitigate the kind of heat and humidity you're exposed to at JRS.

You want more attendance? Build a stadium which at least keeps the sun off the spectators.

I don't care how much anyone thinks we'd "give up" in terms of "competitive advantage," it would be worth it to the team in terms of attendance and fan support.

What exactly did Wayne do? Fire Shula? Hire celebrity coaches?

I don't get this sudden hatred for Ross.. Wayne didn't do much better... As a matter of fact, if Joe Robbie himself was the owner of this team, many of you would complain.. He was about as stingy as they come..

And his hiring of Mike Dee (coming from baseball not a football background) hasn't helped things. Dee comes from an entirely different culture in Boston, where you didn't have to do diddly-squat and you had every Red Sox game soldout. I think this franchise is too much of a challenge for him, and he is one of the biggest clueless people in that front office, and unfortunately is one of the biggest voices giving Ross advice. The whole Gator / Tim Tebow Worship Day being an example - no matter how many Gator fans it brings here, its going to piss off some other part of your fan base. The Gator fans will be coming to one game, meanwhile you piss off a whole bunch of people that should be coming to a lot of your games. It just wasn't well thought out. Then his whole "you taxpayers have to pay for the stadium improvments or no more Super Bowls", was another horribly executed strategy, especially coming during the worst economic turndown since the Great Depression. That was the last thing that taxpayers wanted to hear. Many of them were still steaming over the new Marlins stadium, and then for Mike Dee to try to "bully" the local taxpayers & politicos like that was so damn amateur. If I were Ross, Mike Dee would be gone very soon, and then hire someone who is from So Fla, and knows the local pulse, instead of bringing in someone that is completely clueless about modern So Fla (I think Mike Dee said he lived here in the 1970's - So Fla is a completely different place from back then).

I still don't get it guys. Either you're a fan, or your not. I watch every game every year, start to finish thanks to DirecTV. If I lived down there, I'd be at every game. If you can afford it, why wouldn't you go, good times or bad. It's not like you actually stop being a fan, right??

I think it can be a smart move to do this. They only have one home game after this until November. I guess they figure if the season tix holders give the tickets to friends and hope those people have fun and buy tickets for the later games...so that adds to the pressure to win the game.

Really think they should push the "Orange Offensive" orange jerseys for a game, maybe against Redskins or Bills. I still don't get why they haven't, the fans went crazy for that the past 2 years. It doesn't have to be primetime, most teams wear their alternates in the daytime anyway.

While it's not technically a "must win", for the sake of the fans and team as a whole it is. (Plus...don't want to go 0-2 in the AFC already) Even though Texans are tough, they seem to have an easy track to the AFC South title after demolishing the Colts. Could be a let down game for them.

Everyone has their reasons, whether it be family related or the simple fact of not feeling like going. Going to games doesn't make one more of a fan than those who watch each game start to finish.

Good points, I think what I really mean is, if you're a season tix holder one year, and your situation is the same the next year, and you don't go because the team is losing suddenly .... to me, that's just kind of odd.

If you don't want to go because you have a sick parent to take care of, or you simply prefer sitting at home on Sunday watching on TV, that's fine, and you can be just as big a fan as anyone. What I meant to get at is, if you are a season tix holder once, why stop, unless you have a sudden family or financial burden. It seems that a 16,00 or whatever drop in season tix holders in two seasons is a lot more than simply harsh economic times would bring about, that's all.

This is so true. I do live here and gave up season tickets two years ago--not because of Ross or the W-L column. Sometimes, life gets in the way. Classify this as a "first world" dilemma, but we work in my household 12-14 hours weekdays, spend most of Saturday cleaning up the mess and working more, and Sunday is family time. Yes, now that we don't go to every game, often that includes purchasing single-game tickets. I'm so over people who don't live here--South Florida has been rated one of the most atrocious areas for income and real estate--telling ME what to do on game day or what THEY would do, not living in this area. Go Fins!

Please don't misunderstand. I'm not telling anyone what to do. In your case, you seem to have made the right decision. What I'm saying is - that while you didn't give up your tix because they were losing, it would seem that, due to the numbers who have left, there are probably far more that did simply leave due to the losing. That's what seems odd to me.

And I guess my greater point is, appreciate what you got down there guys!

Most do appreciate it. We are doing better than most, and the people I know who gave up their tickets did so due to financials, rather than lack of support for the team, Ross being owner, etc. Everyone wants a quick fix and a person/situation to blame. Life is simply not that simple.

Part of it is, when I came down last December for the Browns game, the wife and I had such a great time (short of the result), and we can't wait to bring the kids when they're a little older. I just kept thinking, "Damn, this would be fun to do eight times a year." We may even try when we retire, but that's a LOOONG ways off. But I'm sure if I did live down there, there would be times I wouldn't go I guess due to this or that. And if financial problems hit, that would be the first thing to go. Heck, my brother and sis-in-law just gave up their Bills season tix due to financial issues, after several years of having them. It happens. And even if you have the money to burn, it's still a big committment!

I don't hate Ross per sé, but I do think he is clueless about the team, and probably should not be a majority owner for a few more years. Maybe he should have remained the minority owner for a few years and learned how to be an owner, then taken over.

But unfortunately Huizenga had had enough after 2007. Who can blame him ?

Have you never been to a game ? Most of the patrons are still in the concourses that surround the stadium and stay out of the sun until before the game starts. Who can blame them ? Its often 90+ with high humidity = feels like 100º +. Same thing happens at halftime.

Yes, I can read english. You said "Wait a minute DJ......patience with the fan base? We have given him one of the best season ticket bases in the NFL until this year. 102, now 103 straight sellouts".

What does all of the sellouts previous to Ross's ownership have to do with Ross not needing to have patience? Ross took over an extremely frustrated fan base. Lets not pretend it was all roses and then Ross comes in and... BOOM. Everyones pissed.

Ross does need to be patient with our fan base b/c even before he bought the team, the fan base has been restless and frustrated and not exactly booming with support. Thats the only Dolphin fan base he knows. And your 102-103 straight sellouts? The place is only 75% full most games even during the "sellouts"... so lets not pretend this fan base was packing the house and loud as hell until "Ross came and screwed things up"...
