I was talking about last year, relative to his first year starting, he did sustain his play in that context, and actually improved a bit in most categories.

OHHHHH RAATTTTTSSSS!!!! I was just ready to consign you to the Eeyore's Anonymous club as the Chief Worrier and tell you where the next meetings of Order Internationale of Pessimists United (also known as OY-PU!) was. Now you had to go and make a well reasoned and level headed post.

    Well Said...

The only reason he threw for that many yds was because of the number of times he threw. he threw much more than average, his completion rate was about his average, etc. Look how many times he actually rushed. This all just caught the PATS off guard more than anything, just as we caught them off guard with the wild cat a few years ago. Think we'll catch the rest of the league off guard now? Like I said, this was just one freakin game, that's all it was. Just take off the rose colored glasses for awhile and see things the way they are. two weeks ago, everyone wanted him gone, now he's a hero after one game. it's just like the 23rd said, he played well and was betrayed by the D.

One game does not sustain anything, relative to last year or not. Sustain this play for 3-4 more games and I'll be a believer.

You're saying wait this out b/c you're using a fan's perspective. I'm trying to give you a scout's perspective. If you see a player bench 300 lbs then you know he has the ability to do it. That ability already exists. If a year later he again benches 300 lbs and somebody tries to tell you that this is a new talent, you're going to say "no, it isn't, I saw him display that ability before".

But that doesn't equal using his ability to bench 300 lbs on the field.

The analogy is that everything that Henne is doing now, he has shown on the field previously. Therefore they're not new abilities. The difference is that he's in a system that highlights those and minimizes his mis-steps.

I don't think you can say that his apparently improved play is 100% due to the system. He looks more athletic, more confident. He has the same arm, but it appears that he has been able to develop a few mental and physical tools that allow him to be just a bit better. It often doesn't take a ton in this league to be significantly better. Looks at Brees. By all accounts, after his third year, he really bore down, looked at defenses more and took care of his body and his arm. Hopefully Henne is seeing his own little Brees renaissance. But, as many have said, its only one game and we'll see what he does.

And to further throw ice on the idea that he has definitely improved, I beleive I remember an interception that was dropped by the Pats D during the middle of the game - in the endzone. He didn't have many of those last year. Last year, thats likely picked off and maybe we're not even having this discussion.

None of the difference has ANYTHING to do with Henne?

I would love to see a scouting report from a real scout that states that Henne hasn't shown improvement over last season and all this success against the Patriots had to do with changing systems.

Oh please. His problem is inconsistency. You have to wait it out because you want to see that inconsistency gone. He has 5 3 INT games. He has Zero 3 TD games.

Against the New York jets last year he threw for very similar numbers. Those numbers perhaps look better because the Jets have a damn good pass defense. NE was ranked 30th last year and they don't look much better this year. His YPA in that game 8.3. This year 8.5. Not much of a difference. remember after that game? That was his breakout performance. It was in a loss, but the criticism from our two wins to start the year was that Henne didn't do much, was just managing the game. Do you remember that? What was said after game 3? Well we lost but Henne broke out. That's what we need to see out of him. 13 more games of that, and we'll be in good shape.

    What happened?

So he showed this ability last year. In game #3. Against a much better defense. When did he show it again? Was Henning's system holding him down that game? It sure did the next week, he threw 3 INTs. I'm sure none of them his fault, of course.

We've seen Monday Night. Last year. This is not new. In a much more competitive game, with a much better defense. So he benched 300 lb once last year and never benched it again. He's done it again this year, once. What does that prove? Nothing.

Was it Daboll's system last year against the Jets?

His problem was never physical or ability. It was consistency, and mental. You don't proclaim those gone after one game. Your "scout" level analysis fails to account for the fact that consistency isn't squashed after one game. A guy that hits one home run a year then hits 50 the next year, isn't a guy flashing the same "ability."

    :pointlol:

Jokes on you Dupree. Your fan level analysis fails you.

The light has always been on!

I have been an avid support of the guy since he got drafted. I still expect a Drew Brees like jump into his 3rd year starting. He just needed a better offense and coordinator. He needed to work on his feet and pocket presence. He now just needs to work on it a bit more. He needs to work on his long balls a bit more and his WR reads. For example on the short throw to Marshall in the endzone Marshall read the CB playing inside zone on him and so he sat on the outside zone. Henne threw to the inside and it's those kinds of little details regarding being on the same page that he needs to improve on. He still needs a little more time but he's getting there.

Give the guy some credit. You would expect a young QB in a brand new offense to struggle and he has taken it by the horns. This offence was made for him. Henning's offense was trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole.

your not understanding what Iam saying, Henne's been in the league 3 years, his first year he sat on the bench, his 2nd, he played starter for most of his 2nd year, and then last year, his 3rd, he was the starter, so I'am correlating his 2nd and third year, and saying that coaches will tell you that if a QB in his 2nd year starting, plays as well as his first year starting, that its a very good sign..bottom line, he's on the correct plane of progression.

he had the tools and he has the tools..The majority and pundits alike couldn't see how the tools could project with proper variables surrounding it, and what a natural progression of a QB was, considering the variables that surrounded him were..

Some people see things differently on certains projections and athetes..and we all don't hit on everything...I had us going 10 and 6 this year, and really thought our coach would lead them properly, their down to 4 games left in my eyes of what they deserve imo..

People keep harping on consistency and saying "one game" b/c they're looking at it from a fan's final results perspective. Over the last two year's, Henne's play has been consistent. His accuracy didn't vary from game to game. His decision making didn't vary from game to game. The results did, but that was simply based on whether or not the defense did a good job of capitalizing on the predictable play calling. But what most fans see is just the results. A scout looks at the play and says, "he threw that same pass in the first quarter and/or the last game". "It was just as accurate and it was the same read". He is playing consistently, but the fans look at the result and think his play is what varied. The difference we're seeing now is that Daboll is giving him easier reads, fewer hard decisions. He's putting him in fewer "no win" situations. The result is that Henne "looks" more decisive and knows that if he moves a bit he has another potential option opening up. I don't know how many times I can explain this. I'm trying to give you a scout's perspective, b/c I used to work as a scout for an NFL agent.

The same thing can be said about anybody. We knew he has displayed the talent before which is why he was drafted. He has done everything we saw the opther night before except for the passing yardage and seeing him throw 49 times. The thing is is his lack of consistency doing these things. I don't think one needs to be a "scout" to be able to see certain things. A scout's biggest attribute is not identifying the talent but rather how it will translate on the NFL field. Manning vs Leaf, who do you draft? ;)

Obviously, not everybody can see certain things since some are on here claiming he's doing something new. That's been my point from the beginning. He has displayed the talent. And he also displayed the consistency (see post #136).

Either your reading comprehension is poor or you're just trying to be obstinate. What I have always said is that Henne is not likely to be franchise QB. The system and his supporting cast he's in will determine where he falls between an average QB or an above average QB. You can win with a QB of his talent level and get above average results if you have the right system with enough complementary talents.

yes I do understand. One game does not mean he is on this correct plane of progression. From year 1 thru yrs 2 and 3, he has been pretty much the same. Why do you think he was the talk of being replaced? He he continues this "correct plane of progression" for a few more games consistently then yeah. Hell, the worst player ever in this league probably had at least one good game.

The pay was poor and the hours were inconsistent as they were dependent on how many clients the agent was able to land. About a year or so after I had moved on, the agent decided to drop his NFL certification and focus on his his legal career.

People disagree all the time. I can respect a different opinion if it's based on some rational analysis even if I disagree. As a Dolphin fan I have spent far more time scouting Henne than any scout would spend on a typical scouting analysis so I feel confident in my conclusions. You are free to feel differently about them or completely ignore them. I know that over the years I keep adding people to my ignore list as I find posters who I feel don't add anything of value. I was trying to provide a perspective to a thread I felt was different and of value. So, if you want to ignore my posts, you are free to do the same.

I don't see anyone really arguing his talent. Correct, he has displayed his talent before but my argument is that he has NOT been consistent with it. Go back and look at his numbers for the last 2 years. His ratings/numbers are all over the place. Up and down, back and forth, etc. I just looked at them again and saw nothing to make me go "wow". Just what is it you see in the last 2 yrs that I and many others don't. If all his numbers sucked starting out and gradually improve, game after game, then yeah, you have something. But that is most definitely not the case here. I am not saying that he didn't do good things the other night. My fear is that this was the first game in a new system, new OC and whatever and it was just as much a surprise to the Pats as it was to us watching it. There was nothing really for the Pats to game plan on much other than what they already knew about henne. Houston is coming in with some tape to watch, something NE didn't have. After the league catches on, it is my fear that we'll see the same ole, same ole.

What do you think of his mobility, where did that come from.
Henne had the same teacher for 3 years, Henning made Henne play his way, new teacher Daboll and out of the blue Henne has mobility he's changing plays at the line completely different QB.
The teacher can make the student.

I dont think he was teh same, he wasnt hesitant, he wasnt indecisive, he made a decision and trusted it. The syustem allows hm to be confident because it puts him in charge, he can make decisions and thus because he feels trusted, he calls teh plays he is more confdent

What have we been talking about? He just didn't get this mobility the other night. he's had it all along, just wasn't very good with it til the other night. even then, this mobility still allowed 4 sacks.
We'll see how well the teacher and the student is after a few more games when the rest of the league figures this out. When we sprang the wild cat, everyone was jubilant over this new founded success. How'd that work out.

I just love this board. The title to the thread reads "Maybe the Light has come on." Maybe. May Be! Might Be. It could be possible. Perhaps something has happened.

And, what happens?????? Huh??? Huh???? All the candidates for the chairmanship of the National Eeyore Admiration Society, all the Naysayers, Henne Haters, Handwringers, Nervous Nellies, Team Bashers, Regime Raggers, and members of Anxiety Anonymous rise up as if there had been a proclamation from the front office that as of Now, this moment, one game, the current incumbent quarterback for the Miami Dolphins had been anointed with the blessing of the leadership to be the fully acknowledged heir to the Throne of Dan.

All because of the word "maybe" associated with a merest possibility that there might be a hint of a glimmer of a ray of hope materializing that 'Maybe" Henne's game was "starting' to improve because he hadn't rolled over and played dead before the awesome majesty of the New England Cheatriots and the universally acclaimed "Greatest Quarterback Ever", Sir Thomas. The running game disappeared. The Defense never showed up. The coaches were astounded on both side of the ball - one positively, the other not so much. But, this time, in this game, on this date, the quarterback was productive, did not disappear into the shell of confusion shown last year, and actually did things that normally could have, 'maybe' won a football game.

And the outpouring of brake pulling, anchor throwing, antipathy, vetching and groaning and moaning which arose because someone had the temerity to suggest that "MAYBE" the light had come on is simply the greatest eruption of heated vapor since the entire operations department of the USS Nimitz went on liberty and consumed mass quantities of Dark Schlitz beer, pickled eggs, sauerkraut, brats and red cabbage.

Yeah, I know that. I think that Henne just may have turned the corner, but let the season play out, let things get a little rougher before we say that he's arrived. He looks like he is. He is playing much better, but it's only been a short amount of time...Henne has always, imho, had the talent. We've always known that he can do the job, but can he do it consistently is the question. Let's wait a bit and see...

First, as the quotes above show, people were saying Henne was displaying new talent, which was what I originally disagreed with.

    Second, as I said in post #136;
He's putting him in fewer "no win" situations. The result is that Henne "looks" more decisive and knows that if he moves a bit he has another potential option opening up.

Your post is exactly what I was talking about when I spoke of a fan's result based perspective rather than a scout's talent based perspective.

So you are comparing the surprise of the Wildcat to the development of a QB and his success.
Also you don't think a coach can fix a QB's footwork.

So you see no correlation at all about the possibility of NE just not being prepared for the new Henne? All I'm saying is that once there is enough film on this new and improved Henne and teams can plan for him that things may be right back to where they are. The WC analogy was only something to compare this with. It worked well at first then teams figured it out. The same thing could happen here as well. I hope not but it may well be. You "big boys" don't know everything there is to know about football either. :tongue2:
