I'd really like to see someone put this team in the best position to win and then we can evaluate players on a truly fair level. By the way I think Nate Garner played well when he was in there and Mastrud is a SOB run blocker.
I'm with you----> homerism aside, I still believe this is a very talented team with an admirable core. I actually didn't notice Mastrud's blocking, so thanks for pointing it out.
Daboll did something I've never seen before. Both TEs go in motion, Fasano sets on the right while Mastrud keeps shifting and then goes up behind Incognito and Pouncey. Where the heck he came up with that one I don't know. Who the heck was destroying the Texan interior by the way? Mike Pouncey off course.
I don't remember that play, Jaj......... however I've been fairly tanked since the 3rd quarter b/c my waitress forgot to put my food order in. Man, Pouncey looks like he's gonna be special, doesn't he. I hate that we have 2 studs on the Oline and still need to tinker with the group.
It's almost mind-boggling if anything. By the way Cleveland's run D sucks. We need to get Thomas to the 125 yard mark.
If you make the t shirt, I'll buy it. BTW, did you get to watch any of the Cleveland game? (I didn't, which is why I'm asking)
I did. Indy can't run for **** and they still ran efficiently against them and Benson got 125 on them. We have a better offense than both those teams. Besides we're on the road...
Did they break a lot of stuff outside or was most of it up the gut? BTW, do you recall us ever having Danie Thomas and Bush on the field together?
Yes-yes-yes- the pass blocking was terrible, AGAIN. Carey and Columbo were awful, AGAIN. Columbo's "look out" block caused the INT, and he generally allowed pressure any time he wasn't being helped. Can Jerry & Nate Garner be any worse? I'm not opposed to finding out b/c we have Hali, Cole, Babin, Ware, Orakpo, The Jets, Dumervill, S Phillips, Merriman, Von Miller on the schedule and at this rate Henne is going to get decapitated before the season is over. OTOH, Long, Cog, & Pouncey were pretty damn good. Especially in the run game. Thomas looked the part, he's better than Bush as a runner and in pass pro. More snaps for him, less for Reggie, unless Ross brings Kim Kardashian in as a part owner and has her stand in the end zone during games. Sorry Hartline, but Gates needs to start getting more snaps also, 2 targets for 41 yds aint too shabby. The drop on the slant was a tough play to make, the ball got on him before he had finished his break and it was a fastball so Ill give him a pass. I'd like to see some crossing routes, deep comebacks, a reverse/fake reverse at least once a game AND NOT ON THE FRIGGIN KICKOFF return, either. Reshad Jones is either poorly coached, or a moron. You mentioned the last TD, but he also helped allow the 46 yd bomb to Johnson before the half. It was play action, almost the same play as the Pats ran on the first series last week. TE down the middle, WR deep on a post. This time Jones leaves VD one on one with Dre so that he can help Sean Smith cover the TE. WTF is he thinking? Hurry back Chris Clemons. One issue I have w/ Daboll is that he should be mercilessly attacking any weaknesses he sees and I didn't see that happening. Bess had a huge gain vs their 2 deep zone when he faked a crossing route then sprinted down the middle but we never went back to that play/concept. We had major issues w/ protection off the right side all game. We had a good screen pass to the right side that may have gone for more if it was timed better but we never went back to that either. Marshall was murdering Jason Allen and we should've thrown at him just about every time he was in the game. I knew something was up w/ Houston's 3rd/4th DBs when they stayed in their base personnel vs our 3-4 wide sets. Allen sucks and while we attacked him, we didn't drive the attack home as well as we could have. Mastrud looked pretty good as a lead blocker, bad as usual in the passing game. More runs to the left side, please. Our best blockers are over there (Long/Cog/Marshall) and running left sets up play action rolls to the right. I'd love to see some play action w/ a dig post combo between Marshall-Gates. Did we throw a ball to Fasano today? Karlos Dansby followed up the worst game I've ever seen him play w/ another sub par effort this week. The Honeymoon phase is over as far as I'm concerned. Burnett continues to impress, Wake & Taylor as well. Nice bounce back game for Vontae, he looked like a missile coming up on those screen/flat routes. Soliai, Langford, Odrick & Merling need to step it up. A sack/TFL isn't too much to ask. The last two Houston drives, the TD and the 5 minute run fest were embarrassing. It's like the D only showed up for the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Offense too. I want Dan Carpenter fired. A 22 & 34 yd FGs missed in the span of a few minutes? Cannot happen, ever. And Todd, thanks for actually analyzing the game. It's a nice break from the ***** & moan fest that's been going on.
Under Saban conditioning would be a non mother ****ing issue. Hell, under Parcells it was a non issue. This regime is so soft and so pathetic What the **** is going on in Davie, we giving these ****s 10 hour water breaks?
No Colombo is one of the worst players period and Tony keeps starting him. Why? It's not like Garner isn't an intelligent player. I have this odd feeling we're going to see Garnet at RT at some point do well and Sparano will put Colombo back in. Terrible, absolutely terrible.
I completely agree. This team, talented as it (may be) is, is hanging by a thread. I don't know if this has happened before in FA, when a team goes 1-15, and in four seasons, is perilously close to sliding back to that level again. This is frustrating.
I am curious as to why you think its out of the question? We lost at home, and the games weren't really close. Perhaps one could say the Texans game was, however, at the end of the game, was anyone thinking, "we should have one this?" I wasn't. It looked pretty much like the Fins I've watched since Sparano has been here; nothing special at all. Our drives are hard. The other teams drives look easy. Our players look winded, the other teams look fresh; our team looks confused and unprepared, the other team looks composed and well coached. Talent wise, i dont think we are THAT far away. Preparation and mentally ready to go...I think we are miles and miles from being good.
YW, 5th........ although I like your write up better. lol. Great point about the Dline needing to step up and make some plays. ..... and JT's snap anticipation on his sack was beautiful. We cant forget the PI call in Gates's favor either, but that doesn't count in his or Henne's stat column. If we can get the defense on the field that showed up in the 2nd & 3rd qtr verse the Pats and Texans, then I think we could be a team to be reckoned with. But can that defense show up for 4 quarters? PS: that's a nasty list of pass rushers ahead you listed. argh. PS PS: I hate the stupid JLo Fiat commercial. Like she'd ever drive that freakin thing w/o being paid millions to do so.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I just disagree. Tom Brady shredded the Super Bowl contending Chargers the same as he did us, and Houston destroyed the Colts last week. We've dug a hole early on, again. But I think it's WAY too early to start talking about the players quitting. If you want to see a team that "may" have quit on their coach, see the Kansas City Chiefs.
Thx man, and you're so right about Taylor. And OMG they played that stupid *** commercial during like every break in the 2nd half. Between that and hearing women gossip while I'm trying to focus I was this close to losing it.
Yep, he played a heck of a game on the Sparano grading scale (tackles made == good play.) He must have been the best kicker in the league yesterday.
I have a strong feeling that with guys like Marshall, Bess, Bush/Thomas, and Fasano out there, Clyde Gates is going to take playing time away from a guy like Brian Hartline just off of the fact that he can threaten that safety. If Miami decides to return to a stronger run game in the coming weeks, we may see the need to have a strong PA threat over the top. Gates gave the team exactly that today. It'll take time but he's useful already.
I got to watch it on a Mexican live feed. Instead of J-Lo, I got to see a Mexican girl's kickball team accept a soccer ball from some quasi official looking lady. I say official looking because she had on a white shirt. She presented it to the biggest butch on the whole team. Besides that I enjoyed the electronic mariachi samba techno they played while splaying the NFL logo across the screen. And yes, Taylor's first step on that sack was amazing...
Sorry but f*&k Luck. I so sick of everyone thinking that are fortunes change on one player. We got better this week, what sucks is that I thought we were better to begin with. Daniel thomas showed flashes granted the houston Defense didnt respect our running game so those were easy yards IMO. Henne played better, Marshall is starting to show that yac nich again, will allen played well for such along hiatus! Concerned about Vontae and Wake seems like they are a bit slow. ate the Kool-aid . After the NE game we had to game plan to stop the pass allowing them to run. we got on our heels and reverted to bend and dont break. We played to tough teams, if we can focus and beat the lesser teams while gelling I'll jump on board. Maybe we'll get where we need to be the second time. We need to move now.
Well if we ended up with Luck it would mean that we were getting a new coach, which would certainly help our chances.
Last week he cramped up. This week he does something to his hammy. The lad better rethink his off season conditioning program next year. He doesn't seem like one who is ready to go full bore through the next 14 games. To think, last season Vontae took more snaps on defense than anyone. Not looking like that this year.
I totally agree, Daniel Thomas looks like a decisive Ronnie. I do think they need to work on the drawplay hand off,way too much advertising. One thing all the great qb's seem to have is slight of hand.
You assume we'd hire a better coach than Tony. That is certainly not a slam dunk to happen. The names bantered about are generally veteran coaches who are past Super Bowl winners. Who was the last coach to win a Super Bowl with 2 different teams?
You know what? Eff the Super Bowl. I filed that under "really cool things I'll probably never get to witness" anyway. Right now, I'd be dandy with any kind of change that made me care for this team again, in a positive way. There's a reason you see so many empty seats in the stadium and so much negative sentiment on the board: This team, quite simply, is no fun to watch. I can honestly say that I was rooting much harder for the bloody Cam Cameron team than I am for this one, right now. If a team manages to instill so much indifference in a fanbase that has suffered through much worse seasons and records, then there's something fundamentally wrong with the team, not the fanbase. Heck, yeah, give me Gruden or Cowher. At this point, I don't mind if they don't win a Super Bowl. A little hope is all I'm looking for.
This franchise is just in desprate need of some kind of spark, a jolt of energy, that only comes from change. We have some nice pieces but not many superstars. Henne is better but still not great, DT runs well but has a critical fumble. It's always something with this team.
Not saying that we'd get a good coach but I think it would be actually pretty hard to find someone worse than Sparano..... Ross is clueless so I got a feeling that we will end up with the most notable name available and not necessarily the best choice... Guess year 4 is the charm and after these first two games of seeing such inefficiencies and the continuation of inconsistency from last year people are beginning to realize and find it harder to make excuses......we may not be a complete train wreck but and new FO is definitely in order....the sooner the better in my book, damn should have been done back in January...this team is poorly put together and the HC is over his head again........... When your head coach comes out and sez "“It’s baffling to me,”.... “It really is. I don’t have any answers for it." your screwed
Unfortunately, our Luck will be that we finish #2 and don't get Luck, or we get the #1 pick and Luck blows out his knee or shoulder at the end of the season.
I think you're being generous when you say the defense played 50-55 minutes, unless you mean both games combined.
I could easily see that happening. I feared that would happen, but still predicted 6, 7 or 8 wins just incase they did better than I thought.
So was I. I found myself looking at his eyes when they did a close-up on him, as if I'm some doctor and could actually notice concussion symptoms, lol. I was sure he had to have been concussed.
This defense is severely missing Chris Clemons. You don't know what you got til it's gone and Clemons dependable style is a major difference which I see. Reshad Jones makes costly mental errors and it's costing the team more and more every start he gets. We need Clemons bask ASAP!
