Hard to see this team being as bad as the Colts, which might be the worst team I've seen in my lifetime.
Unless the Dolphins can make the playoffs with a 6-10 record, I don't see them making the playoffs this season. Because I think that a six win season is about the best the Dolphins can expect after starting out 0-2 at home.
I'm not saying I saw Brady throwing 500+ yards, but I didn't think Mike Nolan would all of a sudden come up with a way to stop Brady with our personnel. He didn't do it in 2 tries last year.
Kind of reminds me of the old story about plugging the dike. We plug one hole and another shows up. Who would have thought Carpenter would miss two field goals? Seems as if our OL can't block, our DL can't pressure the QB nor effectively stop the run. Our inside LBs aren't playing as well as we had hoped. The secondary can't stop the pass. The defense can't force turnovers. Bush is an occasional threat to the outside but is not a consistent running back nothing more than what he was in NO. Henne has definitely shown potential but is not there yet. If he throws as many, or more Ints as TDs this year there is going to be a lot of doubters on this site, more so than usual. I won't dare hope for the playoffs yet but will just hope for some wins. To answer your question, no, 0-2 doesn't mean there is no chance for the playoffs but it doesn't look good for our chances nor does it mean I wont root for the Dolphins. Go Dolphins!
Bad teams find a way to reinvent themselves, though. Peyton Manning is not on IR yet. If you look at their OL and their ground game, they have some pieces to the puzzle there. Reggie Wayne is still Reggie Wayne. Dallas Clark is still Dallas Clark. Austin Collie is still Austin Collie. After Week 1 they pointed out how limited the playbook and offense is in what they like to do at the line of scrimmage and whatnot, because they're going with Kerry Collins as the replacement and he doesn't know the system. What if they DO go with Curtis Painter? It could get really ugly but at the same time, it could get a lot better. Painter can run the offense the same way Peyton did, albeit with less skill I'm sure. The defense is pretty bad. But their 34 point allowance to the Texans included 7 points of punt return touchdown, and was aided by turnovers. I dunno. It's not always the teams that are obviously bad at the beginning that end up the worst teams. In fact I might even say it usually isn't.
Indy showed some small signs of improvement yesterday. It would not shock me if they ended up with 4 0r 5 wins, based solely on the pride of the guys in that locker room. It's KC that looks like a near lock for the #1 pick. They are completely non-competetive in all 3 phases of the game. I mean, we're bad, but we're competing. KC doesn;t look like it belongs on an NFL field right now. By the way, my Stafford man crush is at an all time high.
I generally agree that the teams that look bad usually end up not being the worst. But I just think the Colts are so bad they will be an exception. Reggie Wayne, a 33 year old receiver, is your best player? That should say enough about where they are right now.
Still control our own destiny. Still can go 14-2. Clearly not too deep a hole. Will we go 14-2? Hell no. But we aren't even close to being out of the picture. 0-3 is a lot uglier than 1-2, though.
Actually, I think if these team starts off 0-4... Sparano is fired after the game and we have a new HC in place for the bye week and the rest of the season. In other words, Mike Nolan will be the interim head coach after week 4.
