Ross may be thinking of the next regime making the new decision on players. Seems like a package deal for Sparano and Ireland. Either they both are here or they both get the axe.

    I wouldn't say they're all gone though.

I don't believe there is any deadline for Langford or anyone else not named Soliai.

The deadline is solely about franchise tag players. Omar is a moron

I would still like to re-sign those guys, but whatever. They'd be valuable to whatever new regime is coming in.

I don't know that Ireland and Sparano are a package deal.

I think you could see a situation where Sparano is fired mid-season and Ireland is kept on until Gruden/Cowher decide who they want.

Either way i think we are kidding ourselves if we think Sparano can take us to the superbowl. We have playmakers and close in every game but when comes down to making the correct call this staff cant make them. 1) Red Zone coaching is the worst. 2) Halftime adjustment there is none. We don't have a attack style we have a lets see if we can keep up and sneak a win at the end.

We could be so lucky with the new regime. We should have a new regime right now.

i see that happening. Sparano is gone and Ireland is too after the season. I cant see him staying if sparano is fired. Especially if we are going after Cowher.

Probably would have been Cowher if Ross would have just fired TS. From what I remember Cowher wouldn't take the job with a coach already in place.
    Ross is the dumbass here.

I don't disagree with that at all. I haven't liked much of anything Ross has done as an owner so far. You don't bring back a lame duck coach, period. You either put your faith in the current guy all along or you move in a different direction. Actions speak louder than words [not that Ross' words have been glowing about Sparano] and we all read the owner's actions loud and clear. If we read it so did the players.

I agree with you but Ross was in a tough spot. He really wanted Harbaugh + Ireland. Cowher apparently balked at Ireland and didn't want it out there that he was interested in an occupied job. At that point, Ross either gets rid of everyone or he has little choice but to do what he did. with the lockout, there weren't many other great options.

Ireland is a tough one for me. You can easily point to many reasons why he SHOULD stay on. He has brought in a lot of really good players and his drafts seem to have a certain amount of success.

I mean, if you go through each position, we have a lot of talent everywhere. I struggle to point to one unit that is just completely understaffed - except QB and o-line.

Unfortunately, those are two extremely important positions.

Ireland has managed to find a bunch of nice pieces but very few superstars. I guess Long is an o-line superstar. And I suppose you throw in Marshall and Wake as well. That's not enough.

You look at the top teams, they have multiple stars. Top 5 guys at their positions, playmakers, etc. We don't have that.

Agreed. And as good as Marshall is, what we gave up for him doesn't really strike me as a great move or deal by Ireland - more just fair market price. He paid a hefty price for a guy with some baggage (that we've seen). I mean, he gets credit for pulling the trigger and going to get Marshall, but it isn't like he swung some incredible deal.

Long hasn't even been good this year. I'm sure things will get better but he has to be elite to even begin to attempt to justify picking him over Matt Ryan. That's to even try to mount a small defense of that pick. Jake Long struggling isn't really great news for Jeff Ireland. Not after Matt Ryan just threw four touchdowns last week in what was one of the biggest games of his young career.

Just in case everyone suffers from a case of memory loss... there was another person in that room the day Long was drafted. His name was Parcells. And, I think he was in charge.

Ireland will outlast Sparano simply because GMs contracts last usually through the next draft. We saw that Mueller was kept around several months after Cameron was fired .

Ultimately he will be fired .I know there are some that think he should stick around but why would a new HC be saddled with someone from the old losing regime.Doing so would limit the possibility of signing a high profile HC.

Well that scumbag took the money and ran. So Jeff Ireland is left to take the heat. I don't know if it's fair but it is what it is.

I'm baffled as to how a tweet about two dudes that didn't have a contract BEFORE a game was played this season equates to the termination of Sparano and Ireland. It's the deepest group on the roster for crying out loud....

You may now resume forward with your pitchforks.

Other than O-Line, the Pats have only two top 5 players at their positions. Brady and Wilfork.

    Colts have/had Manning.

    Ravens have Ray Lewis.

    Saints have Brees.

Jets have Mangold and I guess Ferguson.

Think about it, there are 16 playoff teams. It's not about top 5's. It's about the the team as a whole.

I don't agree with this. What we're missing is elite play from the QB position and coaching. Our roster is fine.

    You are missing a few.

Ravens have Ray Rice, and Ed Reed.

The Saints have the best Guard tandem in the league with Evans and Nicks. They are both top 5.

Jets have Mangold, Ferguson, Revis, and S. Holmes is damn close.

I'm not sure how you mention the Ravens and overlook Ray Rice. Ngata is pretty good too. The Ravens have a lot of good players. Not to mention Anquan Boldin now. They're not even close to a being a team that's just winning with a bunch of role players.

Just a question. New here. How many of you think Parcells shares a little of the blame for the current state of the Dolphins? Just curious.

Can't go into it with that mentality. You keep who the next coach or GM let's you keep. Nobody in that group is worth hanging onto if it causes a good hire to not want to come here if he can't work with his own guys.

I think before the year it was fairly well known that it was playoffs or bust for this FO. Losing these first two games put us in a bad spot to make that happen, as 11-5 is probably the worst we can end up and still make the playoffs.

No, just over heated fans atm, if one thinks about it the next 2 games really are the season in a way though, 2 more AFC games, on the road, if we take both we are in good shape, take 1 unless the Jest and Bills also lose we are in a bad way.

Now what if Ross bought those spare tickets to give Sparano a chance to play the next home game in October to with a winning record and see if attendance bumps up? Safe bet the Jest game is a sellout, but the Broncos game is really a season mile post from that pov.

Confused me Padre. That first Jets game is on the road, so it'll be a sellout for sure. The home game against the Jets is the last game of the year - Sparano might not even be around for that.

Thought it was at home, eh, bye week in between the chargers game and that one as well.

We do not have a home game until mid october, about 3 and a half weeks from now, tons that can happen between now and then.

To me, if Garner starts over Colombo, and Clemons starts over Jones, at practice, that fixes 80% of the obvious problems the team is having.

But still, beat the Browns and SD, go 2-2, week off, then a Broncos home game, that changes things imo
