Lays out the recent player moves and missteps rather nicely. Largely in the secondary.

Too long to quote a piece, but it's a pretty good read.

    Link to story

A couple of the moves I was/am still on board with. But the results still have to bare out.

I have to say that the safety spots are the ones they dropped the ball the most on. Okay, thin at CB: Draft two talented corners in the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Thin at Safety (Bell has been old for a while now): Let guys like Dawan Landry, Atogwe, Huff walk in 2011. Bethea walks in 2010. We could have at least seen what Merriweather could do for us.

We also skip out on Earl Thomas to draft Odrick and an OLB that is struggling to generate any pass rush. The way we've neglected safety has just been criminal.

I still like the Odrick pick. Moving down allowed us to pickup a high #2 as well (Misi). Really liked Thomas too. Odrick looks like a solid pick himself.

Bethea didn't walk in 2010, did he? I don't think Indy was letting him go.

Regardless, they're going to have to get that position handled. If the first two weeks of 2011 have shown us, the NFL is now the wild west. Pass rush and defense has to be at a premium now. And that's sort of another topic I've been thinking about and will probably start a new thread on.

That might be the best, most to-the-point article I've seen written about the Miami Dolphins in a long time. Nice work by Armando. It's just too bad it's about criticizing personnel decisions.

Agreed 100%.. we make so many moves/non moves that leave me scratching my head it's just ridiculous.

The worst one for me is the tight ends. Year after year we pass on all the nice prospects at tight end, and then when they're all gone we decided to sign the awful prospects. Why in the hell would they go and do that?

I just really think everyone needs to go. Sparano, Ireland, .. and anyone else that was brought in Parcells. Every single one of them has made me say "what the ****?" at 75% of their decisions. Every single one.

I mean.. everyone knows we had those moments with Dan Henning and Paul Pasqualoni. It's the same damn story for all of them, the only thing different among them is the jobs they hold. That's it.

This year is like the end of days. Cats and dogs living together.

    Henne looking good.

    Happy with our offensive co-ordinator.

    Defense terrible.

    Armando making sense.

I think the Rapture is imminent.

The safety position has just become so much more valuable these days. With the passing rules today, you can't get away with putting even a Renaldo Hill back there and just saying oh it's alright. Who knows how much of an impact a guy like Ed Reed has on the Baltimore D.

Would it be the end of the world if Miami took a guy like Robert Lester a little too early in the first round (mid) and just like Pouncey enjoyed having one of the better players at his position there? Are we paying the price for having one of the best young Cs in the game for our first rounder this year?

To me the biggest blunder of this FO during free agency and up until the first game was the handling of the right side of our line. Im OK with them drafting Pouncey. God knows our line needs as much help as we can get but Colombo is probably the worst starting RT in the nfl and Carey is struggling at RG. The fact that they didnt even look at players like Gurode, Waters or Mckinnie is borderline incompetent. If they fail a physical, dont look good or wont agree to terms..fine. At least you did your due diligence. But it frustrates me when every single fan, media member and/or pundit knows how bad our right side is and how most of us can identify potential upgrades to help solidify the line and the FO does nothing. The same players who are good enough to be picked up by Ozzie Newsome and the Pats are deemed not good enough even for a looksie by our FO.

    That frustrates me the most

I'm beginning to suspect many of those players were unwilling to even come to Miami. I have a growing suspicion that this Front Office does inquire about some of these players and we are outright rejected, but the organization doesn't want to admit it because it would make us look bad.

The reason I wonder about this is that Brian Waters was available for a LONG time. I couldn;t believe we 'weren't going after' him!!

Then he signed with the Pats and in an interview said other teams HAD called to show interest and he said their situations sucked so he wasn;t interested (he did not specify Miami)... until the Pats called.

I wonder to myself if any other O-linemen told their agents "I have no interest in going to Miami."

Yeah, everybody knew they needed to pick up a decent right guard before the season, and the consensus on this board was Brian Waters. So New England takes him and starts him against us. They're focusing on and botching the O-line is what ultimately dooms them IMO. You can't fault them for trying as it is a desperate man's game.

I believe I heard Rosenhaus saying that Mckinnie would of loved to play in Miami. I am by no means saying he would of been the answer and it was only one half of football that i saw him play this year in Baltimore, but in that one half he played better than Colombo has in 2 years. Yes he was deemed lazy and overweight, but beggers cant be choosers and our right side is God Awful. They should of brought him in to see where he was at. Maybe Gurode and Waters didnt want to come here but I didnt hear anything that showed any interest on our part either

Edit: yeah i didnt mean shields i meant waters....got KC linemen on my mind for some reason lol

I was just going to post the article myself until I saw that you posted it. I think he says it better than I have been saying it for over two years now, in thread after thread. The insane revolving door and the mindless itchy trigger finger has been on my nerves for a while now. In the last 6 months I have really changed my opinion of the coaching staff and the FO. Ireland and Sparano had no previous experience in these positions before Tuna grabbed them and thrust them into his GM fantasy and it shows. Now Tuna is gone and these guys don't have a clue. Instead of getting big name talent that will really help the team they keep "looking under rocks" finding these semi-hasbeens, semi injured players that have been abandoned by other teams or haven't played in the league for two years. try them - ditch them, try them - ditch them, try them - ditch them, try them - ditch them, over and over and over and over again.

Our revolving door of talent on the O-Line alone is a thing of legend as we have probably gone through more talent in three years at those potions than New England has probably gone through in decade. I am thrilled that finally Armando is finally hold their feet to the fire. It's past time for them to either produce a winner or get the hell out of Miami once and for all. They are making this once praised franchise into the NFL's laughing stock. They need to finally admit that they bit off more than they could chew and Parcells made a mistake by promoting them to high level positions that they can't handle. The FO is smug, arrogant and borderline incompetent. Thank god the media is finally on this too, finally. These guys aren't trying to build a winner, they are just constantly rebuilding for the sake of rebuilding and getting no where doing it.

The Columbo pickup is the thing that really puzzles me. Are they basing their opinion of him on what kind of player he was five years ago? Was he not graded as the worst, or one of the worst tackles in the NFL last year? Did they not think there were better tackles or even guards available in free agency this year. I still believe that Carey right now is a better right tackle than Columbo and Carey is not at his best at this point in his career.
I definitely think Polite is a missing piece to our offense right now.

This FO has shown they love to shuffle the bottom of the deck.

All those hamstring injuries lead me to wonder how in shape, or out-of-shape, players are. Did the coaching staff decide to go with a club med training camp once the lockout ended? I was wondering why there weren't too many injuries heading into the regular season. Looks like once players started going all out in games hammy's are getting tweaked left and right.

I understand the Earl Thomas argument, but FO was trying to get back the 2nd round pick they traded away. Not sure there have been many realistic options out there the past two years which would have resolved secondary issues. But Jeez it is tough to win in the NFL with a D that doesn't create turnovers.

Good article , of course the points have been noted for a long time . Regardless of whether he pieced it together from posts others had written prior , it is both fair and salient.

Not to discredit it , but this was all available if someone has been reading here . Kudos to the posters here , we do not all agree or always agree , but the posters here provide a lot of insight and knowledge about Miami .

I thank all for that .

The amount that Ireland re-treads old Cowboys instead of prospecting league-wide for other guys has me thinking he sucks at assessing talent that hasn;t already been on his own roster. He plays it safe by going with guys he knows well, even if they aren;t very good, because he doesn;t trust his ability to assess other free agents out there. That somewhat been borne out by our free agent signings, I think.

Not a good quality in a GM, if true.

I think Ross has to be held accountable in certain things also. This may be construed as hyperbole but I really question whether Ross' first priority is winning. It really really really really(plus a bunch more) irks me that he pushed to get 1:00 games moved later. It gave us a real advantage during early season games. Teams melted against us during those months as our record showed.

What I think Ross fails to realize is that the most important thing in filling a stadium is putting a winning product on the field. Not C list celebs getting partial ownership. Not making the games at night or at 4. We would sell out the OB and Joe Robbie every game during the sweltering heat simply because we were a winning team. What he is doing is giving our team less of a chance to win and i have issue with that. As blunt as it sounds, he is hindering our chances of winning in those early months.

If his first priority was fielding a winning team he would not take that advantage away from us. To me these actions are on par with if we had to play the pats in the playoffs in January and Kraft decided to play the game in some indoor stadium because it was more comfortable for the fans

I have a lot of issues with this team, but I'm at least gonna see how more of the season plays out before I grab the pitchfork and torch. (although I love them pitchforks - Go ASU). Pouncey, and Daniel Thomas' last game saved it for me. That along with Henne's progression.

Kind of amazing how things turn in a couple of weeks. A lot of people have been very critical of all of these moves for a long time now, it will only take a few good wins to calm things down but if we go 0-3 or 0-4 it will affect ticket sales and thats when the FO and coaching staff need to get their resumes brushed up.

Gotta hand it to Armando, an article like that was a long time coming. I agee with others that ultimately he took it way easier than he could have on them.

The moves just don't make sense. How do these guys pick up Columbo and call it done? Really? Have they really watched him play or is it just arrogance and they think they could fix an old Cowboy o-lineman that used to be good. Everybody else is wrong and we're right.

The most frustrating part of this is we had the cap space to address both TE and CB..... or at least 1 major upgrade of the 2.

I like Fasano, I really do; however I just don't see him being the complimentary piece at starting TE that Daboll needs for this offense. IMO Daboll would greatly benefit from someone more dynamic here, a guy who improves our redzone offense, someone whom defenses have to worry about at all levels all the way down to their pass rushers having to delay their rush so they can chip him to prevent a free release.

If they cut Sapp that quickly, they obviously weren't completely sold on him to begin with, which means this regime was content with beginning the season with a rookie (Wilson), an inconsistent 2nd year guy (Carroll), Sapp, and an injury plagued vet (Allen). That's a major head scratcher, especially when you play Brady at least twice. Because of the Brady affect, this is one of the last positions that should be skimped on.

Think you're nitpicking a bit now. I'm more in favor of replacing sparono than Ireland, even though it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if he was replaced either. But Smiley was pretty good until injuries derailed his career, Wilford was a bust but quickly dispatched and most everyone was happy to get Wilson. All FOs make some mistakes and Ireland has gotten us Marshall, Dansby, mike Nolan among others who easily counter those bad signings.

My biggest issue is more in terms of admitting mistakes and staying to loyal to picks. Carrol should of been cut before Sapp. I think they forced Colombo into the line by moving Carey to guard. I don't think Ireland built a terrible team. We were a top 6 defense last year, I just think they are badly coached and Sparono has too much input on OL decisions since he's supposed to be a guru at it

Trying to win games because you want the opponent to sweat in the 1 oclock heat is for Pu$$ies...making the fans more comfortable so they will at least be in their seats to root for their team is something I would do as well.
