Keep in mind, Andrew Luck still has another year of eligibility left. He could return to Stanford for the 2012 season. He's already bypassed being the #1 pick once.
If we get a coach like a Cowher or Gruden he may want to come out and play for us. That would be a nightmare if we end up with the first pick and Luck stays in school.
Luck will need a lot of luck to stay upright with this OL... and there is nothing to guarantee that Gruden nor Chower would want to come here...
I don't think it's that realistic a threat for Andrew Luck to stay in school again. The reason he stayed in school the first time was so that he could get his degree. As Simon likes to remind people, Luck has always insisted that he will stay in school until he gets his degree, and it was folly to think he would reneg on that given his background and especially given the uncertain lockout situation. But now he'll have that degree. Yes I suppose it's a possibility. It's also a possibility that the Dolphins win out and get a first round bye in the playoffs. But for all intents and purposes we should probably assume Luck comes out. And if he doesn't, it's not like it's all over. This QB class should have more than one good franchise guy. Was it over for the Panthers when Luck decided to stay in school the first time? Certainly not. Right now I see the Colts/Jaguars and Rams/Seahawks as the biggest threats. The reason they're paired up is because they're in the same division and each play each other twice. If one establishes itself better than the other by beating the other twice then that takes one team out of the running and leaves the other probably in the running. Miami could have a leg up on losses because of schedule...they have a tough schedule. But at the same time, it will put us at a disadvantage if we tie our record with another team because they'll have had a poorer schedule which gives them the tiebreak on #1 overall pick.
If we get the number one overall pick or within reach of it via a reasonable trade, the FO would have to be made up of brain-dead morons not to take Luck. Hopefully, they get a new FO between now and then...
You know that OL issue is a little bothersome, I'd really like to see if the offense starts to play better with Nate Garner out there instead of Colombo and maybe Ryan Cook at RG. It's not a major change, but it just feels there's talent going unused on this team.
They may be worse than us, but they have way more winnable games than us. They have 6 winnable division games, which they currently are 1-1 in. I think Seattle probably wins 3 maybe 4 games.
While I hope we end up with Luck, hoping we lose all our games to get him is pathetic as hell, and anyone that wishes so needs their fan card revoked..
Agreed. 3 wins should get the #1 pick. Every Dolphins fan should want to sweep the Jets every year. Would be nice to steal one from the Pats as well. I have a feeling Dolphins will win 5 or 6 games though....Any chance we trade up for Luck? Or settle for maybe Landry Jones or another?
Everyone wants Luck. I don't think the team with the 1st pick would be willing at all to trade it (assuming they need a QB).
I don't get the hype for Luck...at all. I'd be more interested in finding a decent coaching staff. Hell, Drew Brees isn't guaranteed to return to NOLA. Just sayin'.
I think that's garbage. I think any fan who is selfish enough to want us to win those few extra games just so we don't get a potential franchise QB to save this organization should have their fan card revoked. We aren't making the playoffs this year so the best thing that could happen to this franchise would be to get luck. Luckily for the colts those selfish fans who wanted to win their last few games didn't get their way otherwise they might of been stuck with Ryan leaf. If you truly want this team to become a contender again you should be willing to sacrifice a season that is lost anyway to get a qb that might be here the next 15 years. I've been to playoff games in the OB, I was at the game duper caught that td against the jets. I was at the playoff game Marino beat Steve deberg in the last seconds of that playoff game I am fully confident in my being a die hard phins fan and for the betterment of the team would be ecstatic to get luck. Even if it meant sacrificing a season that was lost anyway
When is the NFL going to have a lottery like the NHL and NBA???? The suck for Luck talk could get us there
If the Colts can hang on here (and actually I can't help but wonder if this injury to Kerry Collins is a blessing in disguise) then the Dolphins, Vikings, Chiefs and Rams are in the lead for Andrew Luck at 0-3 a piece.
There's no way they give up on Bradford. The Vikings should win a couple more games than Miami. The Luck bowl mid-season may decide this.
Miami's challenge will be to have the worst record outright. The SOS will probably knock us out of the first pick with teams of = record. Right now for teams we have played our SOS is .667 (6-3). All the teams on Miami's schedule are 29-17 for an SOS of .630 right now. Vikings are the only other team without a win who's SOS may be up there with Miami.
Rams have Bradford so there out, Vikings just drafted Ponder, so there out. Chiefs are contenders... The colts are interesting.. They could pull a green bay and draft Luck for the future, but that team doesn't really have the cap room or draft flexibility to take a QB...
It would probably cost Miami entire draft plus 2013 #1 pick and an additional pick just to move up from #2 to #1 if Rams get top pick. Vikings would not pass on Luck despite Ponder. Chiefs would definitely draft him. Colts would say goodbye to the Manning era. I believe if Manning doesn't come back this year they can cut him and only be on the hook for the $23 signing bonus that was paid out under this year's salary cap (not 100% sure on that).
Well, Vikings may want Luck anyway. If teams like him that much they'll sacrifice. Like the Jaguars...if/when a new staff comes in they could forget Gabbert and go for Luck. Bradford is fine, they need more time and talent. Rams should win 5-8 games, they've had a rough schedule so far. If they did get the first pick I don't think they'd go for Luck. Dolphins have talent, probably too talented to win only 3 games. But, plenty of teams with talent have let seasons slip away from a collapse. Think Cowboys last year. So if Dolphins slip it could be 3 or 4 wins down from 7. That doesn't meant they're hopeless for 2012, might actually be better if they do have a chance at Luck. And if they pick the right coaching staff of course who can fix the O-Line and secondary. I also worry about the hype around Andrew Luck though. Could be an epic bust. But...those stats are impressive.
Have you seen him play? As for Brees, no way in hell he leaves NOLA. Not without the Saints being compensated for it anyway.
Just remember, when thinking about which teams will or won't draft Andrew Luck, reduced contract sizes for rookies come into play here. If you've got Blaine Gabbert or Christian Ponder and you didn't have to pay them that much, and you have a chance to get Andrew Luck...why WOULDN'T you take that opportunity? I mean, I know one or maybe even both of those guys could actually forego it...but they'd be absolutely stupid to unless offered a serious collection of picks and talent. So don't take for granted that these teams get the #1 pick and then trade it to us. We may earn that #1 overall pick outright, but if we don't, the chances are not good that we're able to get Andrew. We'll end up with Landry Jones or Matt Barkley.
I don't know if this is "good" news or what but I mean seriously, look at the schedule. There's a Kansas City game and a Denver game...but based on how the Dolphins have played so far, neither should be penciled in as a victory. We could win them, for sure, but so could they. But aside from them, who else? It's a long season, a lot can happen...but as of right now there's a reason people are talking about Andrew Luck. If you can't even beat the Browns on a day when they were more sloppy than usual, and on a day where their star Madden Cover tailback is out with strep throat...then you're in trouble. And you know what...losses by the Patriots and Texans show that those losses weren't as understandable as you'd have thought.
Also we lost 7 games by 3 pts or less. That 2007 team could have been as good as 8-8 with luck. Many people forget this. We weren't probably the worst team in the league that year, but our record was.
