But when crunch time comes we don't know how to close out the game. That's a confidence thing and it stems from the coaching staff. The players have no confidence in the coaches making the right decisions and as a result they fall apart. And those include personnel decisions as well. Too many players coming and going so there's no cohesion in the separate units, like o-line and d- backfield. It's as simple as that.
I haven't done the research, but I'm sure the majority of Sparano's wins have been close games (7 points or less). We just lose a lot of close games as well.
A couple of things I think: -guys trying to do to much -lack of discipline -Wake has not made the impact plays he made last yr -3 new players in the secondary Stuff like that, also think Daboll gets to cute down in the red zone, DTRain was rolling, we try one run, then pass pass pass.
Some of these players just really don't remind me of football players. I see a lot of athletes out there, but also a lot of guys that aren't instinctual.
Jay Fiedler vs. Tom Brady December 22, 2001 Comp-Att-Yd-TD-INT Fiedler 21-37-320-1-0 Brady 12-20-131-1-0 Patriots 20 Dolphins 13
The young players in the secondary, Jones, Carroll, Wilson, all are learning on the job and it is hurting us.
One of those passes was catchable... just saying. Difficult yes, but still catchable... that's 2 weeks in a row now.
True, but whatever it is, they have to do something differently, we cannot continue to leave 17 pts on the field. Last week it was what..13 pts? That is one of the reasons why I'm not willing to toss in the towel, in 07 we just lacked talent, this yr our talent is simply not performing their roles well enough. Now THAT is fixable, in 07 there simply was no moves to be made, we were on "E" once Ronnie B went down.
I agree with you it SHOULD be fixable, but for some reason we are seeing it week in and week out by multiple "stars" on our team.
TBH, I suspect they are trying to hard and making mistakes in so doing. Will Allen at least showed he can still play, Tuesday is huge for him, if he is fine, then we can bump Carroll out of the mix, and hopefully VD is ready to go vs the Chargers. Colombo left with an elbow problem, Carey had shoulder issues, perhaps the Oline problems are going to take care of themselves.
You think Garner and Jerry can come in and do better? I want no part of John Jerry being in the game. Garner for Colombo, I am good with.
So, Cook in for Carey and Garner in for Colombo? I haven't watched much of Cook, so I really can't give an opinion on that move. I do know regardless it leaves an already "thin" offensive line even thinner.
Yessir, that is what I'm thinking should happen, Cook is vanilla, but consistent, Garner is good, but much like Cook. That maybe frees up Fasano, and gives Henne a bit more time, but it probably would hurt the running game.
No Cook is actually a strong run blocker. Garner is also a strong run blocker. I don't think it hurts the run blocking at all. In fact it probably gives it some mobility. In pass protection I'd say Garner is a little better. Still I can see D.T. racking up yardage with that line. Might give the team they edge they need in the red zone.
Well, I was stunned when John Jerry played RG when Carey went out, with a late night looking at things, to be sure, imo Sparano may have his hand forced if those two are out.
Unfortunately our best player is suffering from BPD...Big Play Disorder. Another dropped pass in the end zone. Three in the past two weeks.
They're trying to prove a point with Jerry. I've seen Ryan Cook play football. He's the better player.
It's not at all fine. It's not however an accurate representation of the offense. This red zone problem must be solved. Why can't Miami try to run the ball in the red zone?
I wasn't talking about this game in particular. I'm saying we can usually play with teams for most of the game but come crunch time we self destruct. It doesn't matter what the score is, we're usually still in the game in the 4th quarter.
Yeah, let's not aspire to be the best we can be; let's aspire instead to be the second-worst we've been in the past.
Let's aspire to be knowledgeable and level headed fans who don't rush to judgement or quit on our team after every loss.
I dunno. The screen to Thomas and the QB draw with Henne could both be considered "cute". The uncute would be steamrolling people with the ground attack and we all know that isn't happening. The play action slant to Marshall was a great call, Haden made a play on the ball, Marshall didn't. Meanwhile, McCoy lobs two prayers into the EZ and they both go for TD's b/c our DBs were out to lunch. Xs and Os are nice, but sometimes it just comes down to guys making plays.
