Anybody who watched the 3 games so far can clearly see that we would have 3 wins right now with just a MARGINAL defense. They continue the refrain from last year by not being able to make the big play, or get off the field on crucial third downs. Henne has put us in position to win every game, but the defense has shat the bed every time. Allowing Colt McCoy to go 80 yards in less than 3 minutes?? Terrible. Where is our pass rush. Is Cam Wake still on the team? How much are we paying Dansby??? I know it's chic to blame the QB, and easy. But Henne has played well enough for us to be 3-0. The defense hasn't. Let the arguments begin.
Dolphins Sacks: 0 Browns: 4 Dansby: 2 Tackles. Bush screens ran: 0 Bush runs up the middle: 11 We suck.
There's enough Henne apologists on this board already. I think CK made a great point in another Henne thread last week. It doesn't matter if your QB improves. If the rest of the QBs in the league are improved, it doesn't matter. If he still ranks in the bottom half of QBs in the league it doesn't matter. If he still throws picks at costly moments during a game, it doesn't matter. Henne is not the answer at QB anymore than Sparano is the answer at head coach. But the Henne defenders will pound their drums until the next regime comes in and drafts their own QB. They'll hate that guy at first because of their love for Henne. But then they'll fall in love with him too, regardless of performance. "He needs time." "The defense sucks." "Coaches suck." Etc. It was with Beck, it is with Henne, and so it will be in the future until we finally get it right. The QB cycle of life on Phins.com.
While the O-Line does suck incredibly bad...he has been bad in the RZ. I'm a Henne supporter, but he has just been flat out bad down there. I have no clue why, and honestly just don't care anymore. Play better, or they'll have to find someone who will.
I mean our defense gave up 23 and 17 points in consecutive games! How should we ever except our offense to score more points than that!?!?!?! That's A LOT of Field Goals!
I believed in Henne but that final drive put a lot of doubt it my mind. Henne could win games like that in 09 but cant now. Why is that? I wouldnt be surprised if down the road Henne says screw it and just starts slinging the ball everywhere, kind of like Fitz, because he should know if Colt McCoy can lead a game winning drive, he should be able to. In fact he has done so in the past. I don't know what his problem is.
I just don't understand why when we need a big stop or a big play from our defense, it NEVER happens. I knew they were going to let McCoy march right down the field. That defense is HORRIBLE.
Because its 2011 in the NFL. How many defenses in this league can actually be relied upon to shut down teams?
INTs crucial points in the game? You mean like 4thd down and 10 with less than 30 seconds left in the game? Yeap you are correct should have thrown it away and punted and allowed the defense to get the ball back for us............
There's no defending Henne throwing that pick at the end yesterday. They needed a first. Henne overthrew the receiver badly. It was just a horrible throw.
I REALLY wanted Chad Henne to succeed - but he is no longer in the future for this franchise. Hope he goes on to have success somewhere else, but it is time to move on.
Not sure if you referenced John Beck as comparable to Henne , if you did I can't disagree more vehemently. Henne has not played perfect , but well enough to have won , that we haven't is more on the GM , coaches than him , and there are many more players that have performed to a lower level than Henne , imo.
Maybe not fumble in the red zone , catch a ball that should be a TD , have your receiver catch a ball on the last drive , maybe not have 2 crap runs before a 3rd and long before a FG attempt , maybe have a line that can block soyou don't need a third T that still allows multiple sacks instead of a productive TE out on a pattern you can exploit. I don't know , maybe though ...
He was the guy dropping into coverage on 4th and 4 on the Browns game winning TD drive. The play where no one covered the back out of the backfield giving McCoy a ridiculously easy conversion on what could have been the game ender.
Because actually making a completion for first down is so out of the question you don't even mention it as a possibility.
I'm not sure if this thread is a Henne is a "Henne Defense" or a "Knock on the Defense", but based on the the content the OP included, it feels more like a "Knock on the Defense". I for one am not a Henne defender, nor am I a Henne believer. It remains to be seen if he can fix his redzone and "end of game" issues. If he can't, he's not a franchise QB and will not win any Super Bowls as a starter in this league. If he can, he has the chance. All that being said, I do agree with the OP in that the defense has been pretty bad in critical times this year (so far). Yes, we maybe win against NE if the defense can make a couple of stops, and yes we win yesterday if the defense holds McCoy down and puts ANY pressure on him. Last week is a different story. The offense as a whole did not play well enough to say that if the defense played better, we win that game. In the end, this whole team has been a disappointment minus Daniel Thomas, the run blocking (only b/c we weren't expecting much), and to a point - Chad Henne. Now, we have the 1st pick next year, I don't care if Henne has a 100 QBR by the end of the year, you take Andrew Luck without even blinking. This is a once in a generation, can't miss talent that you don't pass up. Looking at the teams currently in the gutter who would actually pass on Luck or trade the pick, there aren't many. Teams that pass or trade the pick: Carolina Arizona St. Louis Realistic teams who would draft Luck: Cincinatti Kansas City Denver Indy Jacksonville Minnesotta Seattle That's way too many teams who could have a worse record than us, so I'm not counting on getting Luck. - Sorry, I turned my post into a Luck post.
According to some around here, apparently expecting 10 yards in four plays in 40 seconds is completely unreasonable for an NFL-caliber offense running a two minute drill.
No, he should have completed the ****ing pass, on 4th down or one of the 3 before it. That's what QBs are paid to do.
Well if it is so easy why arent you lobbying the Dolphins for the job? I saw very good coverage by teh browns secondary that didnt have to worry about but 1 thing. I blame play calling as much as I do Henne, everything intermediate, run a couple deep routes if teh safeties dont drop, let it rip. I didnt see very deep routes if tehy did I missed it but I never saw multiple deep routes. I did see good tight coverage. I also see that because you want it doesnt mean it was there. Who did he miss? Who was open he missed?
Again all you say is he should have made a 1st down, To who? who was open he missed? with the worlds upon worlds of time? Not saying nor never said he doesnt share in teh blame, but there is enough haters out there that some apologists are needed as counter balance
Is this what your excuse making has devolved into? Chad Henne is a better NFL quarterback than me, a 31 year old Statistician whose only experience in playing football was in the cow pastures of western New York, therefore he shouldn't be criticized by us fans? Good NFL quarterbacks do thing like win games in crucial drives. If you've never seen it happen, I recommend you check out some Saints or Packers games. Hell even guys like Sanchez can pull it off.
the funny thing is that the haters have no idea who was open and who wasn't on that last drive. Most likely nobody was, but it is still all on the QB. Not only does he need to avoid the pass rush and put the ball on their numbers, he also has to get them open and catch the ball for them too!!
What a horse**** thread. You want to defend Henne...by trashing everything around him. You want to aggrandize one player at the expense of maligning the whole rest of the team he plays on. Yeah, some fan you are. The Defense allowed 17 points. It is reasonable to believe that if your D holds opponents to 17 points, you will win those games. However, a QB lives for the kind of opportunity Henne had in those last FOUR DOWNS in the Cleveland game—to move his team into position for a victory. In FOUR tries. Fail.
This defense held the Texans to 23 pts, something that the former SB champ Saints couldn't do. Browns only scored 17 pts. Basically, you want to point the finger at the defense for not being legendary and holding teams to 14 points so the Dolphins can win with their 15 points.
It sounds like you don't have any idea either. His last pass was nowhere near Brandon Marshall. It looked like things momentarily got fuzzy and Chad Henne thought that Andre the Giant was running the route.
It's not easy. That's why QBs get paid seven [or more] figure salaries. It is their job. The fact that it's hard is no excuse. That's why they get huge salaries.
Vikings are not bad. They will win about 4-6 games this year, imo. Seattle won on Sunday. The only real threat to the pick, imo, are the Chiefs. But even they put up a stiff fight on Sunday... like the Colts did.
In all honesty 16 points given up to the Texans (Colombo error withstanding) isn't anything crazy. 17 to Cleveland isn't good but the situation at CB is miserable. Little things are shooting this team in the foot but for all the heat that the defense has gotten and for all that yardage given up very stupid small errors are what the team is suffering from. Without that give me TD thanks of Sapp and Odrick, the Dolphins have put 17, 13, and 16 on the board. That's terrible. I think it's really underrated how ineffective Henne is in the red zone. If you cover certain routes and clog the middle the Dolphins aren't going to score. The guy can be machine like with a good supporting cast moving across the field, but in the red zone and in clutch situations he's really bad. This is where Chad Pennington was at his best arguably.
