More unlikely scenarios for your perusal.

Tomorrow: Jim Plunkett, Kenny Stabler or Earl Morrall.

This is a stupid poll because we know what Chad Henne is and what he can be down the road.

He is a serviceable QB who can lose you a game in a heart beat, while hardly ever winning a game on his own. Compare him with whoever you want. Think who he might be or might not be.

Just ask yourself this....How many times has he lead this team for the jaws of defeat to a victory?

Sure...you can say Marshall dropped this pass, Carp missed that kick, etc. How many times with the game on the line and the ball in his hands did Henne lead the team to victory? How many times did Marino do it? Elway? Young? Montanta? How many times didn't they do it? I would guess that number is much lower than Henne's is now and they played a lot longer than he has.

    How many you ask?

Well, before Henning had a chance to fully sink his meat hooks into him, Henne won 4 of his first 9 NFL starts in 4th quarter come from behind fashion (2 games were from TD passes, and 2 were from last minute FG drives where he threw for at least 40 yards on each drive).

........and then 2 games later he rallied a 15 point 4th quarter comeback where he threw for 160+ yards and a TD on the final 2 drives to push it to OT.

8 times he was faced with leading us from the jaws of defeat. 4 times he succeeded.

Then the season ended and he was subsequently exposed to a full dose of Henning after an off season of being the starter, during which time Henning neutered him, assumed full control of the offense as only his arrogant self could, and used Henne as his personnel puppet. A QB can't win as many games on his own when someone else is calling ALL the plays and the league has caught onto that someone's predictable calls & formations.

In 2010, before defenses caught onto Henning (as they stated they did).

Minne & Buffalo didn't need comeback wins.
Jets game: he didn't win on the final play.... but he responded all game long to NY scoring pts.
    Packers: come from behind win.
Steelers: he did in fact lead a come back drive late in the game.... only to have the defense not hold and the ref blow a call.
Cincy: he led a 4th qtr game winning TD drive with 2 straight completions for 49 yards.

After the Cincy game is when opponents openly spoke about Henning's predictability.

Through the Steeler game, Henne was in 11 games that needed 4th qtr comebacks (15 pts or less).
He won 5 of those (6 if you count the Pitt game).... lost 1 in OT after a 15 pt comeback..... and lost 1 on the last play of the Jets game.

So, do you agree that Henne, as of now, is a mediocre Quaterback due to that poor development by Henning? Wouldn't you agree that we should start over, seeing how Henne most likely will stay mediocre?

Although I can not speak for the original posters intentions, I didn't take it that way. It was a sarcastic way of pointing out the the original thread copied was a "what if" scenario. I took it as the OP was pointing out the first thread was silly in itself. If that is the type of threads this board is going to have then we could talk about any type of what if. A "what if" thread really has no value and probably shouldn't be on this board. I think the OP did a decent job of pointing that out without being offensive and actually made it fun. JMO

    I voted for Steve Young.

We threw our hat into the ring with a Mormon QB a couple years ago. I decided I would prefer the "Greatest of all the Mormons."

I think it fits with Henne's new found penchant to run.
Plus if he converts to Mormonism we may get rid of Henne for a year or two while he goes on his mission.

I would say that, as of now, he's an average QB due to being set back & neutered by Henning (and possibly Sparano/Lee).... and I don't think we should start over yet b/c he's shown signs that Henning's influence wasn't permanent like we feared might be possible.

I know just like all of us that he's presently not where we hoped he'd be. Despite what people might think, I'm certainly not ignorant to his play.

For me personally, I know that sometimes there are reasons behind an excuse.
We all know that when a person tells their boss their tire blew out, they're probably full of ****. But that's not the case all the time. Some times the tire does blow out.
In Henne's case, there were definitely nails in the road that allude to the possibility of a blow out, which is why I don't dismiss him right now.

If Chad played for an organization like NE, Pitt, or GB where their OC wasn't just canned for the 5th or 6th time and their coach isn't on the hot seat, then I'd say he has absolutely no excuse for not progressing faster and being more consistent. But that's not the case.
How he progresses (or doesn't) this year, now that he finally has the ability to use his brain at the line and play more aggressive football, is what should determine his future. He's already shown in the new offense that some of the negative perceptions about him weren't true, so I think he deserves a temporary break from harsh criticism. Showing any improvement in a new offense (during a shortened preseason) is a sign of hope IMO. Rams fans cant say the same of Bradford right now; he's playing equal or worse right now than last year.

I don't think it's possible for Henne to temporarily NOT have been psychologically or mentally affected by Henning (and/or Lee & Sparano). Think about it---- he's a guy who obviously loves playing and started at QB through high school and 4 years at Michigan. QB becomes a part of his identity. He's a thrower, and I can promise you that throwers develop an emotional attachment to their arms. I'm inclined to believe they have more of a bond with their arm than soldiers do with their gun. Throwers will talk to their arm and carry on conversations with it during games like "Cmon buddy, I need you right now".... "just 1 more strike"..... "this completion is all you man!" and so on (only with more expletives.... like "strike this mother ****er out!").

Unfortunately, when throwers are first deprived of their arm, most of them experience some sort of separation anxiety b/c it's such a large part of their identity and joy in life. I stopped watching football for 10 years and baseball permanently after blowing out my arm. So Henne comes to Miami and patiently waits his turn, and when he first gets his shot in 2009, I think he's so excited to finally be playing in the NFL that he doesn't care how he's being used, which IMO is partly why we saw him playing well in 4th quarters and showing guts and a killer instinct. Then the 2010 offseason comes and Henning grabs a hold. The excitement of just being on the field isn't good enough anymore b/c he's now a beginning of the year starter. He wants to do the stuff he dreamed of while growing up, just like we did. If you're a Dolphin fan growing up in the 80's and you play QB (even if it's in pick up games), you pretend you're Dan Marino and have NFL dreams of one day slinging the ball around like Dan. You don't dream of playing in Henning's boring, conservative, QB unfriendly offense that neuters QBs, puts restrictions on them, subs them in and out, and limits their opportunity to cap off drives that you, yourself, just executed. So imagine you finally realize your friggin life long dream of being an NFL starter, you think you're within moments of tossing it around the field like you dreamed, calling plays, having a bigger direct impact on a game, and then your OC prevents it from happening. If you're a thrower like Henne, you're aching to do the things you dreamed of, and you're aching to get that part of you back that's being denied. If that doesn't demoralize a guy, cause inconsistency, make him look like he has no heart, balls, or passion, then I don't know what would.

Now Henning's gone, and Chad's looking like he's having some fun out there.... and he looks like he's getting his old self back. I also believe that's why he was so into the offseason and learning & installing the new offense. Daboll told him how Chad was going to be used, and it probably gave him a reason to be excited for the first time since 2009. That's why I want to see what he can do b/c this Chad looks like the Chad that had me excited in 2009.

    You mean---- isn't Miami like 13-17. :tongue2:

Miami's not 13-17 because of Henne. We're 13-17 b/c we're playing sloppy football. It's a group effort. No one is absolved. Not the offense, not the defense, not the special teams, not the kicker, not the HC, not the OC......... Brandon Fields is the only one who gets a pass. And b/c this is one giant group effort, I'm not scapegoating one player for it, especially when that player's not a seasoned veteran. But that's my personal take.

The what if thread had as much value as any other thread looking for input and debate. It was an indirect way to find out what kind of performance fans believe it would've taken by our QB to beat a less talented Browns team that we were outplaying.
You're entitled to think a thread like mine is silly and valueless to the board, just as I'm entitled to think a post like yours is silly and valueless to the board. :wink2:
