In the event two teams have the same record they go by last year's record, therefore the Sox would be the ones to get the claim.

I mean it is more of a slight against Lackey than anything obviously....if I am Lackey, I go in there and tell I want the ball...

And if I'm Francona I show him his last two years stats and tell him the door is on his left.

Remember if Lackey or Wakefield pitches on Thursday they would be pitching on only 3 days rest. I can understand why the Sox are trying to get another arm, especially a LHP. But if they can't get on, I start Lackey but have Aceves and/or Athison warming up each inning and the minute Lackey gets in the slightest bit of trouble I pull him.

And yes this is on Theo right now, he should have gotten another arm in July or August in the very least. Even if it was a random crappy pitcher because that random crappy pitcher would have pitched better than our crappy pitchers.

Wow, TB with huge comeback () over the last two innings from 7-0, and with two-outs, 2-strikes in the bottom of the 9th, tie it up 7-7.

And all this with Boston up 3-2 in rain delay with Bal hitting in bottom of the 7th once play resumes. So you know Beantown boys were in their clubhouse with TV on and watching the 7 runs the rays scored to tie it up.

No truth to the rumor that I just killed 3 cats, 8 dogs and a goldfish.

Seriously though that was freaking terrible and amazing at the same time. I hope something bad happens to the Yankees, purely baseball wise.

Prepping the KAHN!!! pic for later posting now...

FWIW, I think this is needed, as the Yankees v BoSox rivalry had cooled a bit imo, nothing like a good screw job by the guys in pinstripes to keep the Red Sox out of the playoffs to reignite the..err..um..."passion".

Eh it's not like the Yankees laid down, they started all of their regulars and took a shut out into the 8th inning with a 2 hitter to boot. Their bad relievers just sucked tonight. I don't blame them for not using their good pitchers in a meaningless game for them. They earned that right nor do they owe any team anything.

The Red Sox put themselves in this position, they went what 6 and 18 in September or something like that. It's on them.

It just pisses me off that it's Dan Johnson. I could live with an actual good baseball player like Longoria or Zobrist doing it but not someone like him. Stupid September 1st roster expansion rules.

But seriously tip your cap to Tampa Bay they fought back and didn't quit on the game.

I love Francona but his decision to bat Ortiz ahead of Gonzalez this week was very strange. Hopefully Tim Bogar is getting his resume ready for next year. And yes the Sox pissed away numerous opportunities this game already.

....and on the other channel, Yanks blow a 1st and 3rd no out opp....and Rays coming to bat

It's really like the Baseball Gods just don't want the Sox in the playoffs this year. They haven't caught a break all month nor have they played well enough to deserve one.

Well that's the baseball season. Unreal. Figures Carl Crawford, Mr. Disappointment, wouldn't be able to come up with that ball. Just a terrible miserable September. I don't have any words. Very disappointing end to a disappointing beginning to a great middle. Oh well you can't win them all and it just proves money can't buy you everything. Epic failure.

Time for the Sox FO to get to work, no vacations for them.

And yes please bring on the Red Sox haters, it's your time now and I'm being serious.

EDIT: Longoria just hit a walk off home run, can't blame anyone but the Red Sox for this one. Seriously tip your cap to the Rays, they earned this one.

Very strange year that's for sure. I admit I didn't enjoy this year nearly as much as in past years for whatever reason. And it had nothing to do with that happened in September, I just didn't love some of the roster.

I might hop on the Rays bandwagon for the playoffs this year. They're a great story, and have a lot of likable guys on the roster (minus Damon, he's a jerk), young team that proves the whole money/payroll thing isn't as important as having brains in the front office and in the manager's chair.

I have a broken leg, can barely move, news sprung on me I got my ex, who I don't want to be with, pregnant on a booty call and was absolutely depressed the last couple days.

I needed this day!! I can't stop smiling. Just the most unbelievable day in baseball in my life.

The Red Sox need some serious pitching. Becket, Lester and Bucholz should be a very good trio next season, but they need to stop giving major innings to the likes of Wakfield, Miller(!), and Lackey.

Your lineup is amazing, though. Especially Ellsbury. Jesus Christ what a player.

Well RF, to me one of the problems with the 2011 Sox was the team added some parts that did not "fit" with what I think of as that team's success culture.

But with those huge, long term contracts, there is little chance they can do much to shake up the situation.

My Braves simply ran out of gas and did not have enough bats to pull them through.

Not just that but Beckett, Lester and Bard pitched pretty poorly the last few weeks. Papelbon who pitched extremely well all year stunk tonight (although I think that had more to do with being overworked). It was like every pitcher got together and decided to suck all at once. I never saw anything like it before.

Yeah the top 3 in Beckett, Lester and Buchholz are a pretty good start but they need at least 3 more decent arms. You would have thought Lackey would be able to pitch as a serviceable 4th but he was terrible. I think losing Matsuzaka, as bad as he is sometimes, hurt this team because it made Wakefield and Miller pitch more than they should have. But a lot of this rests on Theo because he didn't bring in any arms at the deadlines except Bedard who barely pitched.

Said who? The team had holes in it at the start of the year and big question marks at a few positions. They were going to be a good team but best ever was a stretch. Let's not forget this team did win 90 games even though they went 7 and 20 in September.

Which guys don't you think fit?

The only big long term contracts that are problems are Lackey and Crawford though. It's probably next to impossible to move Lackey but I think they could trade Crawford if they wanted to pay 40 cents on the dollar for him, which I doubt they'd do. But I disagree with you I think they are going to be major shake ups in the offseason all over.

Not you obviously RF but ALOT of people were talking about that this was the best team, 110 wins isn't a stretch yada yada....those same people "continently" stopped talking about the Sox and started talking about the Pats about 3 weeks ago........

I will say WEEI was golden today, as the only days I listen to them is when one of the major teams gets eliminated for the year.....they had Lupica with Dennis and Callahan this morning....I actually don't mind D&C, they are objective.....

But they were all in agreement to some very interesting and if it happens, flat out shocking events.....

They think that Tito is 100% gone, the Theo is also 100% gone, and that they are going to get either Girardi or TORRE?!!?!?

Again this wasnt some irate fane, this was Mike Lupica, and Dennis and Callahan..........interesting times ahead...
