We're not talking about a QB on another team that we've never seen play this year, so the "there may not have been a ball thrown over 5 yards" is unfounded. If you've watched the games, then you've seen he's throwing and completing passes down field. And it does have to do with improvement b/c it's clearly and improvement.

Apparently they don't blame the blockers for all sacks. In their system, some get credited to the QB himself and since of the 5 sacks allowed in the game, PFF credits one to Henne, it was probably this one. They credit 2 to Long, 1 to Incognito and 1 to Jerry, besides the 1 to Henne.

Another thing to look at should be how does Henne's protection look like when the threat of the running game is established with Daniel Thomas. I can imagine it probably looks markedly better. In 2009 Henne also struggled when Ronnie was injured and Ricky faded towards the end of the year. A second RB to take Bush's snaps would do wonders for about 14-16 more offensive snaps just by forcing the defense to respect the run.

Although the NFL model has changed over the year with the passing game, I think a strong running game is perhaps even more important than in year's past just because of how it takes rhythm out of an opposing team's offense. Investing in that got the Chiefs to a divisional title with a mediocre team.

A guy I'd look at to help Henne next year would be Trent Richardson as surprising as that is. The way he runs the ball North-South with power, speed, solid quickness, his ability to pass protect and even catch the ball are perfect for a ball control offense that will give Tom Brady zero time to do much of anything. Ball control football out of a spread offense with speed. I like the sound of it...

I think we're talking about the same, very confusing play. Bess is in the slot run blocking, Long makes a suspiciously poor attempt at pass blocking, Bush and Fasano make no real attempt at pass blocking. Bush looks as though he was expecting a handoff. The snap seemed to catch Henne off guard and it appears as though he though he had a major brain fart afterwards. I'd like to think it was a draw play gone wrong b/c if it was a pass then that was the worst pass pro in history.

This morning I'm going to grade the PFF grade.

    Sack 1 -
2nd quarter 11:57 on the clock
Daniel Thomas whiffs on a LB blitz. They rushed six. Marshall open after recognizing blitz and cutting it short to a three yard crosser. If anyone is charged with this sack it's Daniel Thomas. It's kind of obvious to me.

    Sack 2 -
2nd quarter with 3:10 left on the clock
It's a busted play. It's the draw that Trillfan was describing. Reggie Bush's hand movement shows that he was suppose to accept the ball on a draw. It's the play Trillfan correctly described. Henne got the ball on one leg movement and appears as though he thought it wasn't coming. But all he has to do is hand the ball of to an awaiting Reggie Bush. Henne three step drops. What looks like a Fasano sack is a Henne sack.

    Sack 3 -
3rd quarter with 10:00 left on the clock
Incognito's man get the pressure, Henne steps up and a LB that chose to ignore the Reggie Bush PA fake finishes Henne off. Reggie Bush runs to the flat raising his hand for the ball. I'll tack that one on Reggie Bush for not knowing situational football himself. He played it as if the LB would cover him and the LB rushed.

    Sack 4 -
3rd quarter with 9:15 on the clock
This could or could not be counted as a sack because Henne eventually tucked the ball and ran out of the endzone. Incognito has a spin move put on him by a LB and totally whiffs. John Jerry has fully engaged a NT aligned in a 0 tech on Pouncey. At this point there are three full yards in between he and Colombo. Colombo man was aligned in a 9 tech over a yard outside of Colombo. Colombo's man draws a line and runs to the QB inside Colombo. John Jerry can't make it back to cover the distance he has left between he and Colombo. I'm tacking this one on Incognito and John Jerry although it was Pouncey's man that eventually made the tackle 1/2 yard behind the LOS.

    Sack 5 -
3rd quarter with 2:52 left on the clock
Scrimmaged from the 5 yard line with no pressure at all, Henne takes off running from the 12 and runs straight into the man that Pouncey is blocking at the 8 yard line. Henne gets credit for this one.

    Sack 6 -
4th quarter with 12:45 left on the clock
Scrimmaged from the 38 with a perfectly formed pocket and 5 blocking 5 - Henne takes off running and runs straight into the man Pouncey is blocking. Henne gets credit for this one too.

    Sack 1 -Daniel Thomas
    Sack 2 - Chad Henne
Sack 3 - Incognito or Bush
Sack 4 - Incognito or Jerry
Sack 5 - Chad Henne or Pouncey if you are blind
Sack 6 - Chad Henne or Pouncey if you are blind

Where in the hell are the 2 sacks they credited to Jake Long? His man didn't sniff the QB.

If you are wondering what's going on with the Sack5 and Sack6, it seems to me that Chad Henne's first instinct versus man coverage has become "tuck the ball and run." Central to this thought is the number of times he actually ran for positive yards behind man coverage.

You don't listen well either. All that means is that these particular passes in this stat are not necessarily long passes as many might think. all of these passesw could have been 5 yd tosses with long YACs, in this stat. I did not say that they were, only that they could have. If you look, you'll see what I'm saying.

The thing is that you can find a bunch of situational stats that say Chad Henne is doing well, you can blame his third down success or lack of on the new offense. However to me it simply breaks down to this.

The new offense is the only reason Chad Henne has any decent situational stats or stats period, it plays completely to his strengths. There has been pressure on Henne but many of the sacks were his own fault for not checking down or getting rid of the ball (which he did so well week one and has not since). At the end of the day Chad Henne is what he is. A young mediocre QB without much room to improve any further. The situational stat that tells me the most?

With four passes on the opponents side of the field, needing a field goal to win and only about 10 to 15 yards needed to get in range he went 0-4 passing.

You came up with 6 sacks. Both nfl.com and PFF only credit the Browns with getting 5 sacks. Sack 4 wasn't a sack because there was a penalty on the Browns.

As for where in the hell the two sacks credited to Long are, I'd need to rewatch it myself to answer that, and I have not yet. Maybe today.
I do recall Jayme Mitchell getting one sack and nfl.com credits him with 1.5, and he did line up at RDE across from Long at least sometimes.
