Luck is only a Junior. Not a foregone conclusion he declares this year, if you didn't already know.

According to reports, he only stayed this year to graduate, which he'll do this year. Nothing really keeping him there after that.

    Yes.

You know the rules regarding action movies, right? For your hero it always has to get worse before it can get better. Meaning they have to take the ultimate beat down before they can turn the tide and rise up to be the hero that everyone knows them to be. Same applies here. You have to go bottom of the barrel bad sometimes so you can eventually rise up and become the team you are supposed to be.

Winning doesn't get us Andrew Luck. It might not even get us Barkley. It probably would get us Landry Jones....YAWN. So what do you do? You Suck for Luck while trying to win games. Believe me...this team isn't trying to lose. They are just being themselves, and that alone is the beat down.

Hate to go back to this argument again, but Matt Ryan has not proven yet that he was a far better choice than Long. The weapons this guy has on his team, he should be putting up 350+, 4 TD games every week. Ryan has shown he has talent, no question, but Jake Long has shown that he is a future HOF. If it were Peyton, or Brady, or Rivers vs. Long, I would agree but Ryan has not put himself in that class yet.

HOF yes but Jake cant win games, high profile picks, high risk picks should win you games or bust. I wanna say Jake Long was the right choice because he deserves it and has earned his number 1 spot but he was not the right choice for the QB-less Dolphins at the time and still are.

My answer is an unequivocal no. As in no way in hell do I want to see the Maimi Dolphins go 0-16. I mean, do you all not have friends and colleagues that pull for others teams? Maybe even rivals of ours? Do you think you'll ever live it down if it were to happen? Shoot man, I got rode hard in 2007. I can vividly remember hoping and praying we'd get at just one stinkin' win. Anything to keep from going 0-16!

And, I just don't get all this hysteria with having the first overall pick and/or drafting Andrew Luck. I mean, maybe he's the next Peyton Manning. Then again, maybe he's the next Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf. And, no I'm not suggesting he is, just sayin'...there's no such thing as a lock pick.

I also think a lot of people have forgotten that Dan Marino was the second to the last player to come off the board in the first round in 1983. Not to mention Tom Brady going into the fifth round when he came out. My point is talent can be found anywhere in the draft. To not only suggest but to advocate losing an entire football season worth of games for one player, is just ridiculous IMHO. :pity:

Can someone please, please, please enlighten me as to how acknowledging we need to improve the QB position to be competitive in this league automatically means you want to ignore the rest of the needs of the team? I just don't get how some people are making this ridiculous leap in logic.

How many Marino's & Brady's have been found late in the draft. Remember, Marino was still a first rounder. Rodgers was in talks to be the #1 overall pick and slipped to GB because other teams had more pressing issues than taking him. GB didn't care and took the best player on the board.

We have taken several QB's over the years. How many of them worked out?

You have what is said to be the best prospect since P. Manning, and maybe one of the best prospects ever....you take him. You need him, you take him. If that means losing some games to get him....so be it. He won't be falling out of the #1 spot for someone to grab like Miami did with Marino or GB did with Rodgers. There aren't many, it all any, other Brady's out there in the league. Take them when you can get them....you got a chance to be in that position to get them, then do what it takes to be in that position.

I wouldn't rape someone for $100 million. I thought maybe I would if I split the money with her, but then it wouldn't be rape.

Of course, if you allowed yourself to be raped for $10 million, it wouldn't be rape either. You'd be consenting.

This is a better statement than your first. Before the season, nobody wanted to "Suck for Luck". Hell, most people here predicted 9-7 or 10-6. But it's clear now this team is a mess. The team themselves are not sucking for Luck, it's just a phrase fans are using so they can have hope for 2012. We'd rather go 2-14 or 3-13 at this point than 5-11 or 6-10. Either way we suck.

We know Luck might be a bust. But, if he lives up to expectations we can be set for 15-20 years. If we have the #1 draft pick, there is nobody besides a QB to take. We need one. Henne is not the big problem, but he's mediocre/average at the most important position in sports. The new regime will have the entire rest of the draft and free agency to address the O-Line, Secondary and depth at other positions. But not with a top 5 or top 10 pick. And especially not with the #1 pick. (We're realistically looking good for Top 5)

1983 was a long time ago. Too long since we drafted a first round QB.

Then how about this: You're gonna get raped at some point, only you don't know when it'll be. You can call the cops now and prevent it from ever happening, or do nothing and get the 10 Mill when it finally happens. You'd live in fear but gladly take the money. We all would.

And FTR, I would rape any one of you for $10 Million OR Andrew Luck to be the next QB of the Miami Dolphins.

I think your outlook is close but a little too rosie to say lack of talent on D is not an issue.

I don't think were devoid of talent but we are lacking in many areas.
    The secondary is a mess.
I'm not sold on Sean Smith at all like many and we need 2 safeties not to mention better CB dept for nickel and dime spots in this pass happy league.

We need a pass rusher opposite Wake badly.
    You already mentioned LB.
NT seems to be up in the air as well since Solail is not exactly tearing it up and we know how important NT is in this defense.

A lot of areas in need right there just on one side of the ball.

    Offense is a mess!
OL, with all the focus this regime put into it is still a disaster.
We've got 3 areas that will need to be blown up. 2 Guards and RT.
TE has been neglected for way too long.
    You mentioned a #2 WR.
RB is ok IF Thomas continues to progress nicely.... no guarantee there however.
QB.... the debate rages but enough people still think this is a huge issue so it''s included.

You've got a lot of areas in need up upgrade there!
More than you can "quick fix" IMO.
This team needs 2 good years of drafts and FA moves to be really ready and that's IF we don't have to start a rookie QB IMO.

Everything has been done by this franchise to try and turn things around but this. It's time to do the right thing and make a real investment in the most important position in football.

Well actually, if you really want to discuss this factually, missing on a top QB prospect puts a franchise behind much more that at any other position. That's a fact.

It takes time for a QB to develop in the NFL. There's no two ways about it unless you have a freak that just "gets it" right away.
MOST of the best QB's that have been in the NFL didn't "Just get it" right away. So anytime you draft a QB high you're looking at the LEAST of 2 years without even considering adding another QB prospect and probably 3-4 years before a team would give up enough to roll the dice again.

You miss on the QB spot with a high pick and you're in trouble. It definitely puts a franchise back years.
Not saying you don't take the gamble but to say the wrong choice can't cripple a franchise for a 3-4 year period would be ignoring the obvious.

Would I knowingly want my team to go 0-16 to get Andrew Luck, no I wouldn't. We went 1-15 a few years ago and got Jake Long with the number one pick in the draft, one of the best LTs in the league when healthy. We could have had Matt Ryan, as has been said in thread after thread, but that didn't happen. We didn't take Ryan, we took Jake Long and I can't hardly call that a mistake but just a choice that was made. Now we may have a chance to get as close to a sure thing at QB as there has been since Peyton Manning and I would be happy if it happened. Not happy that we went 0-16 but happy that we took Andrew Luck and he just may be the QB who can pick this franchise up and thats a winning decision.

Of course.......i think that any person that wouldnt want to sacrifice a season to get Luck puts their own self satisfaction first as opposed to whats best for the team. I actually think a fan that cares more about one or two meaningless wins so that they can enjoy their sunday more for themselves is worse than a fan who sees the bigger picture and wants whats best for the team, no matter how difficult a season they would have to go through

    Please.

No one is suggesting that at all.
Some are simply pointing out that all is not lost if we don't have the top pick in the draft.
If you think QB should be the 1st round choice we make there will still be some prospects available after Luck goes that could very well end up better than Luck.

Some of you seem to think Luck will be the only successful QB coming out next year.

Were already a quarter of the way there. Why not. Id hate to see it though, itd kill me to watch this team go 0-16. It'd be worth it in the end though if we could go on a Brady like run with him.

Of course if we did go 0-16, we'd be the only team that's perfectly awesome, and perfectly pathetic with an undefeated season, and a winless season. I'm pretty sure that's never happened in sports. So... that's a brightside? No?

Part of me wants to say, "f it. The dolphins are going to be around forever. hundreds of years or longer. let's just get it out of the way so we never worry about being an "0-16 team" again. be free to chase after guys like Luck now and in future"

but I would hate to be the team that has the only perfect winning season and losing season.......

so no. I want 1-15. I want that one win to be vs the Jets in the 2nd matchup to split the series between us this season. Hopefully, the Jets are in the playoff hunt and we spoil it with that win.

To me "rooting for 0-16" is a whole lot different than accepting it - if it happened - simply because Det did it, etc.

I just cant root for that....will not root for 0-16. I want #1 pick and still want to win the next 12 games at this point. Thats what I root for.

Rest of us are in agreement. Just agree to disagree and move on. This Dolphin team is going to suck for luck, whether they like it or not. Those fans will be dragged kicking and screaming into the #1 overall pick of the draft
