I'll take 1-15 with a win over the Jets on the 2nd meeting while the Jets are in the playoff hunt.

0-16 would effectively cancel out our highly coveted absolute perfect season, with a nearly equally rare achievement of absolute incompetance.
If 0-16 isn't bad enough, the idea of being "given", the 1st pick is nearly as humiliating. I see it as the acceptance of charity from every other team, a concession that claims,
"We can't compete on equal terms".
"We need this QB handed to us, because we can't find one ourselves."

Its not about becoming a Superbowl contender, its a handout to level the playing field for a franchise, thats dragging off the Ram's rear bumper.

We may need a franchise QB, but I don't want charity.

I would begin plotting Jeff Ireland's, or whoever was responsible for the pick, assassination.

I think he should wear #14 if we get him. Some nice symetry, Griese #12, Marino #13 and then Luck #14

Holy smoke...4 weeks into the season and QB isn't even our biggest problem on the team ??

Whenever I think of a sure-fire franchise guy in the draft, I usually wake up and think about guys like Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler, Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Eric Couch, Alex Smith, Matt Leinart, Ken Easley, Trent Dilfer...There are too many to remember them all in the last 25 yrs or so.

You want to dream, dream about who will be coaching and who the personnel guy will be if you want sweeter dreams...Luck is too much of a gamble to waste my dreams on until the end of the season. Seriously, do you want TS and Irish coaching Luck ??

anyone who chooses to do that should NOT be in the football business, and nor should any player want to play for a regime like that ... how could there ever be any trust there.

If we fall into Luck (pun intended), you can be sure this coaching staff at least will be gone. And none of those QBs you listed were as slam dunk as Luck is. Again, you have to watch this kid play. He's just that good and I would go as far to say he is more highly touted then Peyton was. Peyton had a stigma about him that he couldn't win the big game. Peyton doesn't get outside the pocket and use his legs when needed. Now obviously Luck doesn't do things that Peyton does, I get that, but from a prospect perspective, I would say Luck has more positives than Peyton coming out of school.

Have to chime in here as well. Let's do a little exercise.

Take every player of the Dolphins and Lions, along with records over the past 5 years, and flop everything. So the Dolphins have Suh, Stafford, Calvin, etc. The Dolphins also dealt with seasons where they were able to get Stafford and Suh with the 1st pick meaning they had the worst record each of those seasons (also bad when they drafted Calvin with a Top 5 pick). Now tell me you would be upset today that your team had such bad years over the past 5 years and you would rather root for another team even though you have a breakout QB, an up and coming defense, an elite WR, etc. Obviously you would rather have the Lions players today and my point is that sometimes you have to lose, to win. This team has consistently been ok enough to finish with a 10-15 pick where they either end up blowing it or taking an O Lineman. 2 years they had a Top 2 pick. One year they take a future HOF LT, the other they take Ronnie Brown who when you look at the draft class that year, outside of Rodgers, you couldn't look in hindsight and say we were complete fools. Especially when you consider that Rodgers dropped past 23 other teams as well.

Now, it's hard to root for your team to lose, but in all honesty, I would rather see this team go 0-16 or 1-15 in the most important year to do so, vs. going 5-11 or 6-10 and ending up with the 7th or 8th pick overall. Now if you think this team has a chance to turn things around, go 10-2 from here on out, and make the playoffs, I get it. Go ahead and root for wins. Looking at the schedule and the shape of this team, I just don't see how that's possible.

You better tell the Lions fans that they have no right cheering for this team since they were simply given Suh and Stafford. They are complete charity cases and should not have fans.

QB may not be the biggest problem, but it should be pretty clear that we do not have an elite guy at the position. Without an elite guy, you just about have to be perfect everywhere else to be successfuly. There are very few true elite quarterbacks out there as well. The flops you mentioned were mistake picks by teams who elevated them in their respective drafts because they were considered to be the top guys at the position. However, for Alex Smith, there is Aaron Rodgers, who the Dolphins passed on. Let's not forget about Drew Brees, who Miami passed on TWICE. Andrew Luck is the best quarterback prospect college football has produced in years. He's not a one year wonder or someone that has risen out of nowhere to become a top prospect. He is a legitimate NFL franchise quarterback prospect that has very few weaknesses that I can find at this point. Any other quarterback prospect in the draft, and I think you could make an argument to take someone like Matt Kalil or Jonathan Martin instead of them. Not Andrew Luck. If you get the first pick, I don't care what you think about your quarterback, you don't pass on Andrew Luck. I'd probably take him even if I were the Rams and had Sam Bradford. You could get some team to give up a first for Bradford.

    The Luck Is So Good...thread

I have finally come to my senses and for the first time since becoming a Dolphin fan back in 1971 I will be rooting for Miami to lose and not just this game coming up against the Jets, but the next 12 games so they can take Andrew Luck. And if Luck decides to stay in school for another year for some unforeseeable reason I will continue to be a loyal Dolphin fan and root for the Dolphins to have back-to-back 0-16 seasons. It is worth it b/c there has never been a player of Luck's caliber before. How do I know? I have been reading some of the posts from the incredible, loyal Dolphin fans that support their team no matter what. So I thought it was time to start a thread listing just how good Luck is. Feel free to add to the list...

Luck is so good that he can play all 11 positions on offense and all 11 positions on defense at the same time.

Luck is good that he can snap the ball then run behind it and kick it threw the uprights for the extra point. Of course, he wouldn't have to do this on FB b/c Luck is so good he only scores TDs.

Luck is good that he can punt with pinpoint accuracy the ball going out of bounds at the 1" line every single time...cough, cough...but of course Luck never has to punt.

Luck is so good that Canton, Ohio is already planning on building a HOL (Hall Of Luck) that dwarfs the HOF to list his many feats.

Luck is so good the NFL starting next year is handing over the Super Bowl trophy to Luck's team for as long as he plays and will now have the SBTNSSB - Second Best Team Not So Super Bowl - game to climax the playoffs.

Luck is so good it has already been decided to rename the Lombardi trophy the Luck trophy.

Luck is so good that he once wanted to stay on the field for more than a one-play TD drive that he grabbed his own face mask so he would get a personal foul penalty called against him.

Luck is so good he is practicing bank passes off of defenders helmets so the ball can gently land in his receivers hands.

Luck is so good the Pope has denounced his faith and is starting a new religion called Luckianity in which Andrew is being crucified on an MVP trophy as its symbol.

Luck is so good the President Obama is announcing the withdraw of all military from the Middle East and Luck alone will defeat Al-Qaeda by launching explosive footballs off the coast of Miami...on his off day of course b/c America has its priorities. Football first.

Is a great play. Physically built like Cam Newton which is something. The crazy thing is he probably would have been flagged for leading with his helmet and fined for that hit in the NFL.

I agreed up until the point you said the thing about Bradford. They've invested so much cash into him, it would be dumb to sell him out now. It's not like he's a talent less hack. Instead, they need to put weapons around the kid. They guy has nobody.

The Rams and Panthers are examples of bad teams that could pass on Luck. And really there are always going to be evaluators who fall in love with prospects. I could see a team falling in love with RGIII and trading back from the Luck selection thinking that they get a guy whom they think will be great and some bonanza of picks. You or I may not agree with the decision, but anybody who has watched the NFL for any length of time realizes that evaluations and opinions will differ among the teams.

I heard his urine tastes like 1959 Lafite Rothschild...so while he is making pro bowls here in Miami, he can urinate into bottles and we can use that to pay for a new stadium.
