Not to worry anti-Suck for Luckers.

Tony reminded everyone today at his PC that he was a coach on the 2001 Redskins that started 0-5 and finished 8-8. That's what he's shooting for. Anyone thrilled with that?

Don't kid yourself, we're going to suck regardless. It would be amazing if something good could finally come from it instead of the usual crap. It doesn't make anybody happy to lose but damn it we need a difference maker under center.

All Sparano has to do is lose properly and he will forever have my gratitude and respect for a job well done.

Would like to add that nobody wanted the team to tank the season before it started. Go back to those prediction threads. So many picked 9-7, 10-6, 11-5, wild card playoffs. We were obviously duped.

The "Suck for Luck" took steam after losing to the Browns. It wasn't just the loss though, it was also seeing this team play exactly the same they they have for the past few 7-9 years. Except the defense is far worse.

If I was on the field and my team was 0-8 I'd just want to try and win no matter what. But we're just fans, and what we say has no effect anyway.

A new regime and a top QB prospect like Luck or Jones would give hope. Fans will be able to forget these past few bad seasons with that.

I am for sure an anti, please let my team lose, so they get Luck person.

It has nothing to so with being thrilled. I just cannot root for my team to suck no matter what is involved.

I'm not the one dreaming of getting lucky so I really don't think I could be kidding myself.

And I beg to differ that losing to get Luck is not making people happy here. I don't care but I will be hoping Miami can beat the Jets in two weeks..

The way I see this is you have "in the present" thinkers and "to the future" thinkers.

For the "in the present" thinkers, you can't bring yourself to root against a team you have invested so much in over the 2011 off-season (regardless of the lockout). You want to feel good on Monday morning, knowing your team was able to get a win. You want to see solid developement of the young players now.

"to the future" thinkers have a bit of a different take. If my team is not making the playoffs, I'm more inclined to be ok with seeing them lose knowing that they will move up in the draft. This is the case especially when you don't have a franchise QB and we know that this year, it's going to take a Top 10 pick to nail the guy we want (#1 overall for Luck or at least Top 10 for Jones). Who cares if we win a meaningless game in October when it has only a negative effect on your draft pick.

The "to the future" thinkers have a hard time understanding why a fan would want their team to win a meaningless game in October if it hurts our chances at a Franchise QB. The "in the present" thinkers have a hard time understanding why a fan would EVER route against their team, regardless of the situation.

In the end, we each have a different perspective and neither perspective is wrong. What we have to stop doing is putting down either side for thinking the way that we want. Nobody is less of a fan either way and believe me, the argument could be made either way.

One thing we probably all could agree on, we will all have at least a slight grin on our faces if we are able to walk away with a win against the Jets next week.

I'm not gonna get caught up in the week-to-week battle to Suck for Luck. Of course, I'll be rooting for Indy KC and Jax to win, but even if we get the #3 pick, we could still land Matt Barkley or Landry Jones or some other stud QB. Yes, Luck is the best of the best, but I'm excited about the prospects of us drafting a QB with a top-5 pick.

Right now, Miami would pick 3rd based on SOS. Indy and Minnesota would have the first two picks respectively.

A couple of names....Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson. Rich Gannon took a team to the SB, as did Jake Delhomme, Matt Hasselback, and Rex Grossman, and don't forget that just about the worst winning stats from QB came from some rookie named Ben Rothlisberger before he developed into an elite QB...

Look elite QB play makes a difference, but geez, even the jests have been a game away from the SB with a turd for a QB... The bottom line is that you can't win consistently without a very good team around a QB. The great Tom Brady was out one year and his team still went 11-5 and missed the playoffs from a quirk of the schedule with a guy who hadn't started a game since he was in high school ?? Heck, our very own Fins were in the race for 6 years with Jay Fiedler as the QB ?? Would you consider him elite ?? You look at the teams around the QB and the best talent around the QB makes the differences in winning consistently and not winning...we don't have that here at all, nor have we had it for 10 years.

Thanks. It's too early to look at SOS as we don't know how teams will flush out at the end.

That being said, who do we root for in Indy v. KC this weekend? I assumed Indy, but KC picking up a second win (with at least 2 more likely to follow) might put them out of the running early.

No one is arguing that you can win without a team around the QB, or that a great team in other areas can sometimes win without a good QB.

The difference is some of us want to start with the QB. Once you get him in place it is alot easier to find o-linemen, receivers, etc. We have tried building everything but the QB since Dan retired and it hasn't worked. It's time for a different appraoch

True Schmoo...we haven't been able to do it. The approach should be to match the talent across the board. The last thing this franchise needs is to miss on whoever we pick #1 next draft. What would it do if we get to pick Luck and he turns out to be Ryan Leaf ?? We have many more holes on this team than QB and ONE player even at QB isn't going to suddenly put us in competition with NE and the jests...

Larry, the NFL has changed. The new NFL protects the passer and the passing game like never before. The new NFL throws a flag if you sneeze on a QB. The new NFL throws a flag if you lay out a receiver going over the middle. The days of winning a Super Bowl with a game-manager are OVER. Change or die.

The last "game-manager" to play in the Super Bowl was Rex Grossman. He had one of the best defenses of all time and that was 5 years ago. And he lost. Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson went to the SB 8 and 10 years ago, respectively. Since then, every single QB to play in the Super Bowl has been elite, or pretty damn close to elite for that particular year. Rich Gannon and Delhomme played out of their minds the years they went tot he SB. Oh, and the jests DIDNT make the Super Bowl BECAUSE Sanchez is not (and will never be) elite.

Its not the 70s or 80s anymore. You need a dynamic passing offense to contend. You need an elite QB in the NFL these days.

The NFC West teams are no threat whatsoever. They are all going to pick up 4-5 wins simply playing each other. Even SF does not have a large talent gap on it's division rivals.

I sort of disagree on Denver. They've basically been competetive with Kyle Orton playing well below his averages from the last two years. If his play ticks up even a little, then I think they could get into the 6 range. I still think that us and KC are the top contenders. I've got to figure that Minny is going to win at least a few. They have not been terrible in any game.

If you go through life afraid of picking busts then you will never be good and will never get any dynamic playmakers. There is very little to no reason to be scared about Luck busting, but even if he did, who cares? You try it again.

I think it's far too early to predict how we or any team will finish. its 4 games in. A ton of football to go.

Ok, what about the jests ?? What about the Ravens ?? Neither have dynamic elite QBs...but both are mentioned with SB aspirations...Even the guy we supposedly missed on, Matty Ice is looking less than an elite QB, but the Falcons are mentioned in the top group... I agree you have to have a dynamic offense in this NFL and that it's easier to do with the newer rules...

Delhomme played well that year for Carolina, but that running game made the difference, not Delhommes passes...but the point was that it took more than just Delhomme or Gannon for those guys to get where they got. The same can be said for Sanchez, who is not and as you said likely not to ever be elite, but his surrounding cast will keep them in the hunt. Philly got to the SB using an elite offense, not an elite QB. the Colts are always in contention because of Manning and that offense is built to be run with his skillset running it, however they have quite a bit of other talent around him. The year they won the SB was largely because their D stepped up to the plate in the playoffs and made a difference that they hadn't much of the regular season. Brady is a great QB, but he has arguably the best WRs in the game with Welker and Moss before this year, a genius as a coach, up until recently a great, but under rated D and a slew of other top notch talent to go along with him.... Since the decline of that great D, they've slipped...

I think it's just too easy to say that one guy, will put you in the drivers seat without some talent around him, and we don't have that even if we had an elite qb.

actually the Patriots won that year because of their awesome defense. Brady wasn't really that amazing in 2001. in fact i think the argument could be made that Brady wasn't really an amazing quarterback until after he already racked up 3 Super Bowl victories. kinda crazy.

I don't think we have a firm knowledge of how anyones season will go. We can knock off 5 straight and then what? We havent exactly been blown out these last 4 games. And I am NOT being optomistic, I think we suck, but realistically in the nfl, it can happen easily.

    1) Indianapolis Colts (0-4) – The defining moment of the 2011 Colts season came when Jim Irsay said that the team would bring in Dan Orlovsky and Brodie Croyle to possibly bolster the QB situation when Kerry Collins went down with a case of being terrible. The Colts could have brought in David Garrard or Marc Bulger and made a run for it, and you can certainly argue that Curtis Painter knows Peyton Manning’s playbook and deserves a shot, but it sure as hell smelled like a surrender.
    2) Miami Dolphins (0-4) – Tony Sparano has supplanted Todd Haley as Numero Uno on the hot seat list, but the 47 people who claim ownership in the Dolphins have given him their vote of confidence. This team is so wildly desperate for a QB that Sparano should have the offense take a knee on every play this season. But he’s going to end up winning 3 or 4 games before he’s fired at the end of the season and replaced by Brian Billick or Jim Mora Jr., thus keeping the suck alive for many years to come.
Humiliating Update: Chad Henne may be out for the season, so the Dolphins reportedly contacted both David Garrard and Jake Delhomme today. They both said, No thanks.
    3) Minnesota Vikings (0-4) – Somewhere Brad Childress is sitting in a dark room, sipping a glass of scotch, twirling his mustache and cackling maniacally. I can’t wait for CBS to hire Donovan McNabb as an analyst so I can hear him, Dan Marino, and Boomer Esiason talk about what QBs need to be winners. Should be a hoot.
    4) St. Louis Rams (0-4) – Can we all chip in and buy this team a top receiver? By the way, if you’re not monitoring Mark Clayton’s Week 6 or 7 return in your fantasy leagues, start doing it now.
    5) Kansas City (1-3) – Congrats, Todd Haley, you beat the Vikings. I still say that Haley is fired before Sparano, just because he’s a cranky jackass. Who would have thought that losing Charlie Weis was a bad thing?

That's fine, I write a blog for the phins, and host a radio show, but that doesnt mean we can't/won't rake off a couple of desperate "do it for tony" wins. Also, we can't predict how horrible OTHER teams will be. Kansas City, we can beat them. That means we'd have to not only suck worse than them, but we have to lose 1 more game than them, or they'd win the head to head tie breaker for draft status. The vikings suck, and the colts are dredful. Remember us in 2007? Being so close and in so many games, but never finishing or winning? Thats the Colts right now.

If this isn't evidence that the front office wants to suck for Luck, then I don't know what is:

    AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
Before zeroing in on Sage Rosenfels, Dolphins looked at a who’s who of QBs: Kellen Clemens, JP Losman, Jim Sorgi and Charlie Frye.

    Colts already have Orlovsky.

If we had signed Charlie Frye that would've been too obvious.

I doubt Matt Moore can win 2 games with this team let alone 4. I'm not even sure he can last 4 games behind this line

I'll raise them a Pat Devlin.

But have you heard the best part Sec? Sage Rosenfels had some sort of mysterious blood condition in august. So not only did we sign a terrible QB, but one who was in a hospital bed for most of August.

    Suck for Luck indeed.

With Freeny and Mathis, that DL alone might be able to steal a few games against weak OL's - they almost did in both of the last 2. They will also get 2 games against the Jags. If Painter improves marginally, they might be a 3-4 win team.

The Vikes are starting to scare me, though AP can go berserk at any time.

    please god..bring Peyton back.

that drops them out for SURE. then we have to worry about KC, and we have a showdown with them. I imagine that game ending 146-144 with each team taking turns intentionally taking safeties.
