Henne's season is done, and he is a FA next year. I'm all for drafting a QB in the first round but, would still like to keep Henne. I don't see being able to get a better QB to add to the rookie we will very likely get. Also, I'm thinking it would make keeping Long a lot easier. They are best of friends, played together for 7-8 years, and teamed up to lead the lockout workouts. Opinions?
Well this thread developed fast. I don't want to say yes or no because it depends on who is on the market.
I don't think Jake resigning has anything to do with Henne. It will have to do with the Benjamins, just like anybody else.
How would it make keeping Long easier? The guy is going to be a Miami Dolphin for life or until we don't want him anymore. Not a whole lot he can do about it really... And no. Henne must go. He is too polarizing for the fan base. Last thing we need is the fans chanting for Luck while Henne struggles like Orton in Denver.
If the market is similar to this past offseason (i.e Orton, hasselback + bunch of scrubs) I'd be okay with resigning Henne just in case Luck isn't ready to start right away. if Henne was healthy, I'd see other teams outbidding us for him to be their backup, but with his injury, he could be back in a fins uniform.
Why would he even want to stay in Miami? There's no future for him. Like every other former starter/2nd string caliber QB you try and go to a team that gives you the best shot of playing. This is why we've been able to get the Green's, Pennington's, etc... to all come here.
How about a big "F you" to the incomming gm and head coach. Ireland signs henne to a 14 year, 400 million dollar deal, with 397 million guaranteed. Spoiler
The season ending surgery prompted this thread. We will see nothing more of Chad to influence our opinion one way or the other.
If Matt Moore finishes the season with good numbers, that will influence our opinion. Moore did sign a 2 year deal so the new staff will have the option to keep or cut.
I agree for the most part but, with some players, they do consider other things, at least to a degree.
That's a good point, which I had not considered. If he plays well, keeping him with Henne would be another option.
Exactly. I don't know why people automatically assume he'd want to come back here if there are better opportunities elsewhere. If we were to draft a Luck or Jones, Henne would pretty much know his time as a starting QB would be limited at best. His best option might be with a team who drafts a QB that might need a season to ride the pine, or a team with an aging QB.
Yeah, but we don't know how the rest of the season will play out. We don't know where we are drafting or how Matt Moore will play.
If he's a FA, I doubt Henne will want to take a backup role. If he's not the clear-cut starter I see him signing with another team. The great thing about next year is that there's a CHANCE one of the bottom feeders (i.e, potential Luck landing spots) may sign a QB in FA and opt to draft a different position instead. Say, a team like the Colts? Maybe they opt for a veteran like Henne as opposed to starting over with a rookie QB if Peyton is out longer than this year.
Andrew Luck's highlights will continue to lower the fans' opinion of Chad Henne. I hear folks talking as if Henne's departure and Luck's arrival in Miami are foregone conclusions. It seems as if some us are gluttons for disappointment.
Too early to tell, but I'd have to say I'd pass in re-signing Henne at this juncture. Even though he showed improvement, he still ranks 24th in the league in passing efficiency and 28th in completion percentage. I'd think the writing's pretty much on the wall for him if (when) a new front office comes in. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...rest-season-sage-rosenfels-signed-sources-say
Based upon what? I'm not sure I see more than two winnable games left on the schedule (Denver, Kansas City) looking at it objectively.
Wow, nearly 7 full months before the draft and Luck is already a Fin in most peoples' eyes ?? Maybe Henne was a little bit better than most give him credit for if we've already conceded the season because he's gone now... Seriously, the way Ross works, he's probably already got the jet fueled to head to wherever Luck is playing next week. Maybe he can screw up the search for a HC but surely he can get us some Luck ?? Keep dreaming folks...it's a long season before we get to that point and then there's the inevitable search for a new HC once the season is over...
I don't see the new HC and GM having any interest in resigning Henne. The new regime will certainly want to replace a lot of the players now on the team and I have no doubt that Henne will not be of any interest to the incoming staff. Henne would also be much better off going to another team where he could get a fresh start. I don't see him ever being anything more than a back up QB for the rest of his career and I don't see him happy with that role in Miami. As far as Long is concerned, he will go where he can get the most money, as he should. If that is with the Dolphins, I am sure the new regime who love to have him as one of their building blocks. I doubt that Long will care one bit where Henne is playing or whether Henne is still a member of the Dolphins. Long didn't come to the Dolphins to begin with because Henne was here. He was drafted here and it just so happened that Henne was also selected in that same draft. In fact after playing on losing teams quarterbacked by Henne the last two seasons and a quarter of this season. Long probably is looking forward to the Dolphins actually drafting a QB who can be a franchise QB. He and Henne have plenty of time in the off season if they choose to get together.
I'd give Henne a 2nd round tender. It's obvious hes been woefully underdeveloped during the Henning era. Hes got some ability whether or not as a starter or backup he worth keeping for the right price. Damn Straight, I am drafting Luck. Tendering Henne has nothing to do with Luck.
Henne shouldn't be resigned. Especially if there's a house cleaning this summer. Whatever QB is taken by Miami, should have somebody else to compete with. No trace should be left from this regime save Jake Long and a few others.
