I remember the games but don't remember the bean pickers part but sounds about right with some of the knuckleheads I went to school with. PBHS sadly is no more, it was a great school though.
Would we all be considered "Dolphin Lovers"? And speaking of Dolphins, how many remember Flipper in the pool outside the end zone?
To me there is no "why". Rooting for and loving a team is in your heart. If you can dispatch one team for another because of how they are currently playing I don't really think you deserve to be a sports fan. I've been a Dolphins fan since 1982 and I can't answer why, I just am. I've been a Bruins fan since I could walk, again, no answer as to "why" I just am. It is one of the main reasons why I've never been a hardcore college football guy, I have zero emotional investment in it because I have no team that is in my heart.
Born and raised in S Florida, and will always be a fan. Besides for people who live in S Florida, is there anyone out there that has become a fan within the last 10 years? If so, what have they done in the past 10 years to make you new fan?
yeah i have always been and probably always will. whether they win or lose, i have something to talk about and enjoy all the ups and downs. i guess that sounds ridiculous. but, a 1-15 season just doesn't really devastate me that much.
i love the dolphins ever since i can remember watching football i ve been a dolphin fan, a fan is for life no matter the bull**** a fan is there for the highs and for the lows i am a lifer i mean for **** sakes i want to be buried in a dolphin casket
Everyone that knows me, knows I would choose the phins over them. Guess you can consider them by best friend, even though they suck as a friend right now.
if you cant like a bad team you are not a fan, you are a front runner...I started really following the dolphins the year we went 1-15! lol
Why? Well, I'm not big on American football nor I cared for the NFL but I like the Miami Dolphins since I grew up in South Florida.
Why ? First game I ever saw over here ws Dolphins v Someone and so I had to pick one of them Never change your team or give up on them
NOTHING IS OVER! NOTHING!!! You just don't turn it off!!!
Sure do remember that. And when I mention it to some younger fans they think I`m nuts. Also, when a field goal was kicked on that side of the field the ball used to end up in the pool and the dolphin knocked the ball back out with his nose. Those were the days when it was a pleasure being a Dolphins fan....Orange Bowl........Don Shula........Bob Griese....etc.
http://books.google.com/books?id=zW...m=1&sqi=2&ved=0CBoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false Funny story from Garo's book on Flipper, and how cheap Joe Robbie was.
Great story, Garo was a great kicker and a great Dolphin and his perspective on the Dolphins is good reading. Thanks SB!
Glad ya enjoyed Hondo. I read where Robbie was the "inventor" of putting up the net to save footballs, and to stop Garo from kicking them in Flippers tank. I cannot offer a link as fact but, have read many on how cheap Robbie was. No surprise that he let "Butch & Sundance," with Warfield go, likely costing us another Super Bowl or two. I love talking to Phans from those special days. How do you compare players from then and now?
It's just hard to stay passionate. I'm no longer interested to go read stories on Monday morning about the game. There's not much to come here to discuss in excitement. Who do you rally behind when you have no idea who will be on the team next year? No consistency with high turnover: God help you if you want to buy a jersey as next year that player probably won't be here. The owner is a big part of the problem for me. I cringe every time I hear he has done or said something.
thanks for sharing Rgf it sure made me sad when Csonka and Kiick and Warfield left. this was why people see the dolphins as not a dynasty . we very well could have been a dynasty if we had more of a vision and kept those players.
IMHO, I believe there are many part-time and casual Phans who are now sucking for Luck. I an not among them, and looking forward to KICKING SOME JET'S ***!!! IF and WHEN we have no hope of doing something this year, I will hope for a high pick for a QB. Not quite yet.
I have been a Dolphan for as long as I can remember. I have a Dan Marino Jersey in a shadow box with many of his football cards (Including 24K gold Action pack and a game worn jersey card). The Jersey has never been worn and will only be worn when they put it on me to put me in the ground. Always have been and always will be a DOLFAN!!!!
Typically.... I wouldnt agree with the notion of cheering for loss's. I cant ever root for my team to lose..... This seems like the one in a blue moon chance that we could draft a QB who might rival Dan Marino. So....am I rooting for loss' personally? No....but I sure as hell arent upset by them either. What scares me is the thought all the sudden that the Jets might be as bad as us.....and losing out on Luck to them would be......painful.
its all on my dad (R.I.P.), he took me on my first ever vacation to the US to a dolphins game, i saw dan marino play and it was even at the freakin orange bowl, some 20 years later, i' m still suffering....
Blasphemy!!! J/K. But in all seriousness, if Luck does end up a Dolphin, and is better than Marino, I'm cool with that because it likely means multiple SB appearances, and hopefully a championship or five. As to why I am still a Dolphan, man that's been gettin' harder and harder to answer. Glutton for punishment is about the only answer I have these days.
WOW, that's one hell of an endorsement. Luck is better than Marino,"" and Peyton, and Elway combined. He will re-define the record books, and be the first HOF QB elected before he is even drafted. I can recall Ryan Leaf being a better QB than Peyton by some. He was off the charts in ability by some. Luck should not be considered by any to be compared. He will win the Super Bowl, by himself, in his first year, and many more after that. Anyone in for a reality check?
