''In other news pertinent to South Florida, the 2015 Super Bowl was awarded to Glendale, Ariz., home of the Arizona Cardinals. While South Florida put in a bid, the NFL has made it clear no more Super Bowls will be played at Sun Life Stadium until improvements are made. Tampa was the other finalist.''

Hear that Mike Dee...improvements, MOVE THE DAMN SEATS CLOSER TO THE DAMN PLAYERS!! Give the players a reason to be excited about playing in their own damn stadium..Gut that cemetary, anticeptic tank of a soccer stadium and get with the program...Your team, your fanbase, your pocket is suffering because YOU JUST DON'T GET IT!!!!

    Make a move.

I'am sorry to say this, but I thank the NFL for taking the game away for a bit, maybe the pressure will get their asses movin on this tremendously important subject..

Oz, I'am not gonna debate you or Des in this thread..lol

Hopefully this along with the empty seats to come this season along with the beancounter's reports will make Ross realize things gotta change in that stadium.

They said they were going to move them closer before the 2012 season. Dee said it in an interview, I think he said 18 feet closer. Should be more like 30 feet closer, but at least it's something.

The NFL really only want some kind of covering though. They have most everything else it seems. I expect there will be plans to build a partial roof that only covers the seats, which I'm all for. Probably in a couple years from now.

To be fair DJ, the economy really sucks down here, and the Gov't just put up a BUNCH for the Marlins new stadium. I also don't believe that Ross is "politically" that well connected to the NFL, where they may lend a helping hand.

IMHO, as stated, we need a retractable dome. I believe it will eventually come but, have not a clue as to when.

The problem with JRS even if they move the seats closer is it is too flat. It doesn't hold the noise like the OB or Arrowhead in KC. I think they need a new stadium frankly, this one was not well thought out.

I have to think that IF they go that far, they will include a retractable dome. It only makes sense. Few want to go to or play a game in a tropical downpour with 30 mph winds.

An asteroid will strike earth and destroy all life before the Miami Dolphins move to another city.

    They aren't going anywhere.

Mike Dee isn't the problem. He gets it. It's paying for it that's the issue.

I don't think the seating configuration is the problem. The problem is how much you can charge for the suites.

The stadium is fine. It's tough to beat out places like AZ where every single thing is state of the art.

Really, the last time I've seen the Robbie full was a soccer match between Barcelona and Chivas of Mexico last August. And probably USA-Honduras match during last weekend.

If they put that glass top over the fans like that picture last year would help keep the boos, I mean the noise in better. I don't like domes, but that picture was cool.

    1) This was bound to happen when it rained on the last Superbowl here (or was it the one before that?)

    2) This tells me Ross does not have a ton of pull with the league office and other owners. Franchise's with powerful ownership can lobby better for the franchise's benefit.

I'm fairly certain this has nothing to do with the noise level or closeness of the seats to the field, and has everything to do with keeping the fans dry. After the monsoon that was the last Super Bowl here, I can remember reading that they (Goodell & co) wanted the stadium either partially or all the way covered.

In January of 2010 the Dolphins even put together a concept, but never went forward with it. I personally think it looks like someone dropped a floppy disk on the top of the stadium, but that's just me.

To me this looks too much like Frankenstein's monster, a mismatch of things that shouldn't go together.

The one thing I do like about these images in the aqua seats ... they look a heckuva lot better than orange IMO.

I'm more disappointed that Tampa lost out again. NFL only invited Tampa and Arizona to bid this year. Super Bowl week is fun. Hopefully 2016 is it, although that's Super Bowl 50 and would more likely go to a place that's hosted a bunch of them (Miami).

The thing about 'moving the seats closer' at JRS is that -- I believe -- they'd simply be adding 3500 more seats around the lower bowl. In a stadium that already has more capacity than it should, adding even more seats won't make it easier to sellout games.

Whatever happens, they can more easily make moves because the Marlins are gone. They have 7-8 month windows to get things done rather than 3 months.

Actually, the concept for renovation that they did put forward called for the lower bowl to be modified in order to be closer to the field. You can see from the drawing that the bowl is closer to the field than it is now. And I do agree, the all aqua seating look much better than the orange there now.

The seats are going to be replaced regardless, we can be fairly confident in that. Dee said a few years ago that they're worn out and it was on the agenda (they're the originals from 1987).

Unless the Commish changes his stance, they're not seriously considering Miami until renovations are made. The question that remains is how it's going to be paid for.

The added seats, under the renovation plan they had, wouldn't be that significant because some of that 3500 would be off-set by putting the scoreboards in the 4 corners and eliminating those seats.

Figures. They probably will do a dome. Might as well. They piss on the natural advantage this team has on other teams anyway. We've only won 83% of our games when the temp is 83 or higher. Let's look the other way and say that it isn't an advantage and build a stinking dome.

Also, I don't believe we can get the seats that close in that stadiumlike it is in that picture..I think thats just an image enhancement of what we already have structurally, with some different paint on the seats, and some cool big screens taking up seats..I don't believe their serious about changing the structure to bring the seats closer..I don't think their that smart..It's what should be done on many many levels, but I don't trust that they have the foresight.

IMO Miami's sitting on a gold mine with all the extra space around the field. I'm thinking something along the lines of a cemetery where fans can become posthumous season ticket holders. Maybe charge more for plots situated below the cheerleaders.

You don't have to debate me on it.

They are not moving the seats closer! They want to add more seats which means more empty seats until the team gets better and the worst part is that the incline of the lower bowl will stay the same...

He gets it alright. The thing is though, that he has the team ready to move forward with something totally different than what is needed.

The old owner was the one who wanted to do it right. Dee is saying the seats will be moved closer by ADDING more, not moving the rows forward.

One thing about the design that I should point out is that they took cues from one of the most famous stadiums in history - the Roman Coliseum. It's basically a dark glass roof and there is actually a gap between the top of the stadium and the roof itself, to allow for airflow.

It's actually a pretty ingenious design as it allows for airflow and does not require a completely new stadium. Not a bad option for a county low on funding.

Also, PhinsGeneral is correct ... in this design the seats are pushed about 15 to 20 feet closer to the edges of the stadium. Not sure how difficult that would be structurally, as it changes the angle in the existing rake of the rows pretty significantly.

I wouldn't be opposed to a "standing room only " concept, where someone can pay a certain amount to stand to watch the game. The Royals have a similar concept at Kaufman and it works well.

Wow...watchin the detroit fanbase become stars...their talking more about the crowd noise and its affect than the teams or the game..They don't disapoint to start the niner game, they cause 2 false starts to start the game, combined with their 9 last week...80,000 on their feet screaming cause they know they can make an impact on the game...Game ball last week from the coach to the fans..

good luck with any of these things happening on Sun Lifes's clock....Doesn't that bother you??

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but do you think that sketch is really what their thinking about?, is that sketch official from Mike Dee or is it just an idea of what it could look like...Where did we get that picture from?...It would be great if thats what they had in mind.

I still don't think that the seats are in closer than our field is currently, It looks like just a great paint job, and if you take that barrier out of there, i'am not sure the seats are any closer..That would suck.

Also, I think that the anger towards Miami ownership is misplaced in this case. The team has clearly wanted to move forward with this, the problem is that no one wants to foot the bill. We're talking about a significant amount of cash for this - $225 million. To fund the project, the team initially proposed a tax hike, which naturally drew some criticism from folks in Broward county. Still, give Ross and Dee credit - despite the obvious lack of public support for this project, they are still trying to move forward with the plan, pointing out (as the OP does) that future Super Bowls may be impacted by standing still.

In other words, I don't think Ross and Dee need to know the message; they have heard it loud and clear. The folks you should really be upset with are the residents of Broward county, who for some reason don't want to foot the bill on a quarter of a billion dollar stadium renovation.

I think it's an extremely tough sell to the general public. To justify raising money for a stadium through sales tax increases when the unemployment rate is hovering around 10% (9.6% to be exact) ... I just don't know how they sell that to the general public.

I do think that this will happen, eventually. It's just a matter of when ... my guess would be if and when we start to see the economy improve.
