He isn't an idiot, which is why he knows sitting and learning behind Manning in a quality Colts organization wouldn't be a bad thing........ and he'll probably feel much more at home in Denver under a fellow Stanford guy (Elway) than in Miami's unknown situation. Denver isn't depleted at WR. They have 2 young talented guys developing in Decker & Demaryius Thomas (1st rounder) and 2 talented rookie TEs in Julius Thomas & Virgil Green. He would also have Ryan Clady & 2nd rounder Orlando Frankin at Tackle.

This season if nothing else has shown what a great player Manning has been the last 12 years and how that entire organization has ridden his coattails.

Bill Polian's way to build a team. Good QB with stud offense and pass rush. Without P. Manning, that team is doom like the Bills in Super Bowl 27.

A good team doesn't go 0-6 soon to be 0-7 when their QB, and only their QB, goes down. See 2008 Pats.

Yards per catch is a nice fantasy stat, but #1 receivers catch more TD passes than they drop. And don't get me started on him falling out of bounds like a drunken monkey.

You realize that when you build an entire team (offense AND defense) around one player that it will be hard to be successful when that player is removed from the equation? They've purposefully made themselves completely dependent on Manning's offense. Freeney & Mathis? Those guys are meant to compliment Manning.

To be Honest, Just looking at it from a non biased standpoint. You can see Luck thriving in Miami the fastest out of any of the teams in the so called "luck sweepstakes". Not worried at all

It does when the team is aging and completely structured around the QB. Even the Colt's defense is structured around their offense.

You can make excuses for them if you want, a good team doesn't go from super bowl contender to the worst team in the league when one guy goes down.

I am sorry, well truly not sorry at all, but I cant see any way the colts would set asside 30 mil or so for qbs. 20 for payton and 10 for luck. They would not have enough to pay a special team. lol With Elway however.... All the more reason I am glad noone, especially us, took orton off their payroll!

Dude, will you freakin stop scaring me here, lol..

I hate this BS, I hate talkin about this crap, if this dude thinks he's to good to go to any franchise for no good reason accept for his comfortability, then he ain't nothin but afraid..If thats the case, I'll take 3 first round draft picks for his wuss ***..

I refuse to use that term that everyone is using, begins with an S ends with an L, people should quit promoting that sh*&..''Its stupid''....I understand the thought process behind it, but its stupid to promote and attach yourself with it.

    Sorry for the rant.

If he decides to pull an Elway or a Manning we will flip him for picks. If we are in the position to draft him we will know it for months leading up to the draft and we will know for a long time whether he will want to sign and play here.

At least 3 firsts and 3 seconds, that would be the starting price. If no one ants to pay that price then I'd draft him anyway and let him sit for a year on principal. Could be devastating to the franchise but I don't care, I'd feel better doing that and having he re-enter the draft than get fleeced for the guy.

I don't think he'll do it though. If we put a nice new structure in place with an attractive coaching staff we will be fine regardless.

The problem comes when everyone knows you need to trade him because he not only wont play for you but will only play for...say Denver for instance. Then all your trade power flies right out the...well you know. Just ask San Diego. I hear they have nice weather and hot women as well. Dont think its going to happen as the stars seem to be alligning between Stanford current coach, Gruden and Luck but I am not banking on anything.

The biggest hiccup is that he'll only have a few weeks to declare for the draft once the NFL regular season is over. IMO that doesn't work in Miami's favor since we might not even have a new coach by then. If Miami finishes last and our **** doesn't seem together, it cold scare him back to Stanford.

This season could be a catch 22. If you want Luck, then you want Sparano to finish out the season. However, finishing out the season with Sparano presents a minute chance of costing yourself Luck. The odds might be low, but they still exist.

I said it in the other Luck thread, but the wrong team for Andrew Luck would be the Colts. Luck is not the kind of college QB who is going to sit for 2 and especially not 5 years. And Peyton doesn't want to be replaced, I'm sure. If Andrew Luck is as good as the scouts think, he'll want to have a full career, not be "groomed".

Well if we have the number one overall pick we either take Luck or we get one of the largest packages of picks and players ever traded in the history of the league. To me it isn't worth worrying about. Luck does have a lot of power in his court, he has the ultimate trump card in that he can go back to school. I would be more worried if we were the Colts, I wouldn't want to go and wait 3-4 years to take a snap in the league. We have everything to offer Luck, if he decides to muscle his way out of here we get a huge trade and we have a new GM and coach to take advantage of those picks.

    Exactly.

Either way, we need to start over.

I heard on LeBatard today, that this regime has taken 3 linemen in the 1st round, and acquired Colombo who was another 1st rounder........and we still have problems on our line? Cheese and rice.....

I don't equate this organization with the likes of one that ever offered any justification for an outright refusal to join, and to argue any point they are, imo casts a poor reflection on this forum, and only serves to diminish what our loyal members invest here.

I want Andrew Luck, but in all honesty, if they want to pull an Eli / Elway move, I'll take the teams 1st and 2nd round pick in 2012 and the 1st rounder in 2013. That's what it's going to take to to move up even 1 pick. Give me Landry Jones and I have 2 early 2nds along with another 1st rounder next year.

If Luck didn't want to come here it might be best to make a mega trade for him if it ever comes to that. This is speculation but if it was ,deal him.

The Miami Dolphins have really ****ed up their fans.... bunch of paranoid schizo's.

    1. Miami is not a notorious loser. While we haven't had winning season since 08, and haven't truly competed since the early 00's, we're still not the Detroit lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, etc... It's not like Luck has to be thinking "anywhere but Miami..." If anything, it's probably the opposite for the numerous reasons people have stated.

    2. Even if Luck were to pull an Eli, you tell Luck's father/family to go **** themselves. You play for us or you don't play at all. Don't give in to that ****.

If we do land Luck and he demands a trade, we're still in trouble. In order to get the number of picks the fans want may not be what another team is willing to give up. In other words, a trade can only happen if both teams agree. Just because the fans think he is worth 17,000 picks doesn't mean thats what we'll get.

To both these points...remember, thats exactly what SD did to cover their backsides....they had the #1, Manning's said do not pick me, they did....used that leverage to work out TRADE AFTER NYG drafted Rivers @ #4. Granted the details were worked out but each used their own picks as planned.

So, both teams used their respective first round selections, then completed the the trade that swapped the QBs and NYG tossed in 3 extra picks as compensation to SD. Their 3rd rounder that same years draft, along with SD getting the extra picks in the following draft too as compensation(1st and 5th), etc.

This has probably already been said, but the ONLY obstacle I see that would make Oliver/Andrew hesitant about Miami is Jeff Ireland, and according to reports, and what Ross has said about finding a franchise QB, Ireland's *** would be outta here yesterday if that were the case.

I disagree. Luck could likely care less about Miami's past if he's not a Dolphin fan, especially since that storied past is long gone and no one from it is in our present. He won't be joining Shula and the 70's Dolphins. It's all about "what have you done for me lately?". And lately, we have a new owner, possibly another GM, will be on our 50th coach in 12 years, and have shown no ability to develop a QB. Those are the facts, and that's what he has to look at when determining his future.

Don't kid yourself, Clark. A team that hypothetically finishes last in the NFL twice in 5 years with 2 potential overhauls is exactly like the Bengals, Browns, and Lions.

I think you have to add coaching instability or the question mark at HC, QB Coach, and OC (not b/c I think Daboll is doing a terrible job but b/c a new HC could mean a new OC).

I think you have to add Owner....and sadly that aint changing...so unless Ross shows he is a changed man with words and actions Luck could say thanks but no thanks. The sooner the better for Ross to improve his image, but this Mangini-thing is not helping with that image right now.

If Ireland is retained, that is another impact on Ross' decision making.

I'm not sure how the owner card will play to be honest. I think it could go either way. The reasons we already know about are the potential negatives, but then on the other hand there has to be some solace knowing he's a competitor and isn't a cheapo like Paul Brown. If he can refrain from being too hands on, then I think he could be OK. We also can't forget that this whole process has been a learning experience for him, and it's probably expected that he'll make some mistakes b/c of how different this business is from his other. The Mangini thing I don't mind so much. I'd rather see him consulting people in the industry whom he trusts rather than taking matters into his own hands considering the little football experience he has. He's gotta confide in someone, right? If he's making decisions about his team and possibly Ireland, then it's not like he can talk to Ireland or anyone else in the organization about it, can he?

Well if you to seek to learn what it takes to succeed at QB in the NFL, would you seek out Joe Montana or Todd Marinovich????

Guess who I think Mangini equates to here! What has he done to earn confidence?

Not to be a buzz kill but the Colts and a few current 1 loss teams will likely finish with a weaker strength of schedule. Suck for Luck people need to pray for some help.
