I was thinking back over the past 3 years and am truly mystified by how Parcells and this regime have handled the Dolphins philosophy on BOTH sides of the ball. We all know that the offense is is 10 to 20 years behind the times. Ball control offense, dink and dunk, Pennington, Henning, run the ball, run the ball, run the ball some more.

What has fascinated me is looking back at the defense over the last 4 years. They manage the game, leave the middle of the field open, let the TE make a catch over the middle as long as we are not giving up the big plays (interestingly enough, the talent level has been so bad we have consistently let up big plays as well), let the RB take screens all day, play fiery red zone defense, hold to FG's.

Now let's look at the Super Bowl champion defenses over the past few years.

Saints - TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, and more TURNOVERS...Greg Williams made that defense opportunistic. Blitz, let the QB make a mistake. Disrupt the QB.

Steelers - Their defense was phenomenal all around but they were also very good and creating turnovers and getting to the QB.

Packers - TURNOVERS. Get after the QB. Matthews, Woodson, Williams, Shields, all opportunistic players who create disruption and can catch the ball.

The Dolphins defense is the antithesis of the recent Super Bowl defenses. This league is no longer about limiting teams to as few points as possible. It's about creating favorable situations for your offense and getting after the QB.

I know the talent level for the Dolphins defense has not been to the level of the Packers and Steelers but utilizing a similar scheme to Greg Williams while also having an offense that takes shots down the field and score TDs over FGs would make this a much different team. Time for the next coach whoever that may be to get with the times and build this team using a similar model to some of the recent Super Bowl teams.

I wouldn't say our offense is 20 years behind he times considering we run/ran some spread concepts. Fact is, were just not that talented. We don't have a qb, we have a terrible right side of the Oline, mediocre running backs, and an underachieving wide recieving core. Can't turn chicken **** into chicken salad. That is o e of the reasons Ireland must go with the bathwater.

So maybe the 2011 offense shouldn't be included under Daboll. I have been a lot more impressed with the offense this year, from a play call perspective only.

Don't forget with the Packers defense that they are starting Erik Walden, who was a special teamer in Miami under this regime and was scape goated for the team's special team struggles.

Here's the big thing though. You have to be strong up the middle, and this regime has done a piss poor job of addressing the middle of the offense and defense. When I say middle, I mean QB, RB, and C on offense and DT, ILB, and S on defense. We have done nothing at safety and very minimal effort has been done to the quarterback position. They did address center and running back this year, and they have addressed ILB. However, they must have overlooked some qualities of the ILB position because ours aren't any good.
