This is the man to coach us all the way to Luck. He sounded like he was about to go shopping for rope and a sturdy ceiling fan.
Nothing. He was indeed a deflated and defeated man. Even the reporters, whom also know that he is dead man walking, took it easy on him and didn't ask him any tough questions. Someone asked him if he had the team in a prevent D for the whole game. He said no and shrugged it off. The rest was very deflated: "I don't know what happened", "I'm a competitor" type stuff. Nothing. Before and after Sparano was on, they were talking to Lombardy a bit. He also said that Sparano looked like a defeated man and that he's a dead man walking. He said that Gruden could be a possible candidate for HC, but it's just speculation. He did say that it isn't true that good HC candidates wouldn't want to come here, especially if we have the 1st pick. He said how most coaches would love the opportunity to work with such a special prospect as Luck. He said that we also have some good, young pieces in place. He doesn't think there is anything to the thought that good HCs woudn't want to come here.
Thanks Sceeto. I don't understand the people saying that marquee HCs wouldn't want to come here because of the team. We have a very young team with talent, and holes as well, but what non-playoff team doesn't have holes? I do see the logic in stating the marquee HCs wouldn't want to come here because of ownership and Ireland if Ross insists on keeping him, which I don't think Ross would let Ireland get in the way of Cowher or Gruden.
If we get the first pick we won't have to worry about potential head coaches. To quote Bart Simpson, the chance to work with a once in a decade prospect like Andrew Luck will have prospective coaches on this place "like Oprah on a baked ham."
