Oh I agree with you that a 140 ticket per game increase is small however my point was you were arguing that losing Gonzalez would cause attendance to go down when in fact it actually went up, granted the number was small but the point remains that Gonzalez wasn't the draw you thought he was. If so why would almost the same amount of fans go to the games?
wait what was that BDH?? http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/story?w=1b4u2&storyId=7141339&i=TOP&topslot=1&wjb=
Wait, LaRussa said it, I think that counts for my side! As has been stated, that refrain is just the same ol' garbage being spewed cause its been spewed before and become CLICHE' .... go ahead tell me Holland is an ACE. I am waiting. And Philly's staff says suck it!
This has been one of the few post seasons where the pitching just hasn't been good. Again a lot can happen in short series but generally good pitching will beat good hitting. The good pitchers (Sabathia, Verlander, Wilson, Lee, Shields, Price to name a few) just haven't pitched well in SSS. As far as Philly's staff, they utlimately lost the series because Chris Carpenter pitched 9 shut out innings while Roy Halladay could only go 8 innings of 1 run ball. That's playoff baseball at it's finest right there.
And as you know (as does FinYank - he just likes to tease) I have never once opposed that statement....the difference to me only is what happens when otherwise good hitting gets into funks..which occurs many more times in the playoffs then simply when it faces Good or Great Pitching. Hitting funks cause HORRIFIC performance far more than GREAT Pitching does. Its all relative, but what has become cliche is tiresome. Horrible Hitting makes everyone look like an Good arm. LaRussa...now, that made me laugh at least. hey, did you hear Mets have solved their Pitching and Hitting by bringing the fences in??
Like anything and everything else, money talks. If the Mets offer more money than the other 29 teams that player will go there. No matter what Mike Hampton tries to tell you he didn't sign with Colorado because of the school systems.
Cards bullpen is showing cracks, Rangers up 3-2. I tried to find the gm last night and it was not on Fox or TBS..what network was handling it?
hahaah......LaRussa, I rest my case! (he has turned into Nazi or Hitler - the first person to utter LaRussa has lost the argument)
Rangers 1 more to go, but in a hostile environment, never know, could go to game 7, and again this series is anything but borrrrrring......
David Freese is more clutch than the entire Yankee lineup combined.....the kid has been doing it all playoffs holy crap...
Nice to see that even bad managers (yes I'm talking about Ron Washington) can manage his team to two straight World Series. And yes last night's game was great (one of the best ever single WS games) from like the 7th inning on.
--Thats Freece with a "C" my man! Whatever.---- So Sorry now I'm the one with egg on my face! "S" it is. Please mark it up to an old man's brain stoppage! One of the very best I've seen in quite some time! Way to go Cardinals!
Would you say biggest collapse in Postseason history? Yeah Yankees blew a 3-0 lead over the red sox, but Texas was down to their final strike twice and could not win.
No the Yankees still hold that title. The Yankees still had 3 more chances to win just 1 game (they even had a lead in the 8th inning of game 5 and blew it) while Texas only had 1 game left to play with. It was one of the biggest single game post season collapses though.
Cubs in 1984 and the Blue Jays in 85 and the yankees are the largest collapses I've ever seen in MLB. Gm #3 NLCS in 84 was a classic with Steve Garvey literally willing the padres to victory.
As far as # of games left to accomplish the job, I have to agree....Yankees own something that cant be beaten, only tied! But being 1 strike away, and X-# of runs up, etc...still more epic comebacks have occurred. For anyone that wants a great read - get Barry Levenson's "The Seventh Game"....It had covered the 35 prior WS that went 7 - up till 2002 (Ana vs SF). Now it will have to be updated to include 2011. I feel slightly bad for Texas (but I cant say I was rooting for them). I am very surprised by St Louis. I do hope this helps/lets/forces them to keep Albert in STL. Frankly, just like their 2006 Title I am left underwhelmed with their team, but impressed they were able to get so hot and ride the wave. I still enjoy that about Baseball more than any other sport. Now....off to the HotStove season....perhaps my favorite as well.
Again this just shows you why once you get into the playoffs anything can happen and why baseball is so great. I didn't care who won the WS and even though I didn't have an interest at sake I was completely entertained, that's all that should matter. Who cares about ratings, etc this has been the best WS in terms of on the field entertainment since 2002. I obviously love the 2004 and 2007 WS series but that was simply because my team was involved and won but those games weren't overall entertaining for the average fan because they were sweeps. I still say that the 2001 WS was probably the greatest WS I've seen in terms of underlying factors, drama, entertainment and overall play.
eh Red Sox/Yanks ALCS over any WS for me......everything else is just rudimentry congrats to the Lou though...
Oh yeah the 2003 and 2004 ALCS were great and overall much better games but I was strictly talking WS.
IIRC the announcers mentioned a couple times the Cards are #2 behind only the Yankees at 26. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
