What are the chances of Fisher & Ireland running the Fins next yr? There's a lot of talk about Gruden and Cowher but something tells me neither will come to Miami. I really can't make a decision on Ireland. This last draft could very well be his only body of work to judge.
Ireland has to go imo.... This team needs a complete overhaul. I like some of Irelands picks but he has not proven to be a quality GM. I'm praying the Giants let go of Reese. He is a bonefied General Manager.
I wouldn't mind keeping Ireland as a Director of College scouting. I've liked his drafts thus far. As a GM, I think we can do better.
My initial reaction was But quickly followed by sadness I've followed the Fins since the 80's and this team always finds a way to disappoint. Many of the young ones on this board haven't experienced Dan the Man unable to win a SB....Absolutely maddening!! The situation of Fisher & Ireland isn't that far fetched. Ross may not fire Ireland if he only had true control over personnel this past year. Gruden and Cowher are not a lock to be here next year.
I'd like to see Fisher here, and by a lot over Cowher. With the right GM, a QB at least a little better than McNair and a stable organizational environment I think he could do some great things.
you guys might object to this idea but I would not mind if Dan Marino were to meet with Mr Ross and strongly suggest to make a big push for Cowher. or maybe get Don Shula to interviene and help get our team on track . I am so depressed i would take Mike Shula over Sparano any day. ok bad suggestion but still its my thought.
What has Jeff Fisher really shown? 1 Super Bowl in 16 years and a cornucopia of WTF moments in his last few years?
It looks like this scenario is not that far fetched since Gruden & Cowher are staying as commentators.
This team needs and enema. I'm talking the extra lage bottle because you ate too much cheddar enema.Trainers, towel boys n all.
I'd probably rather go with a fresh face like Chudzinski, Jay Gruden, Winston Moss etc. if Cowher/Gruden aren't in the cards. I don't have a big problem with Jeff Fisher, I just see him as a mediocre choice.
It could easily be someone from the college ranks. Ross is an idiot, he won't go through the NFL circles to find a Rex Ryan.
I don't think that's the worst idea. Mike seems a lot closer to being a chip off the old block than his brother David did. Thing is, he has never gotten the chance at the NFL level and Alabama gave up on him kind of quick IMO when they had the chance at Saban. He was a candidate for the Dolphins head coaching job in 2007, when Cameron got it. He at least had a career winning record at the college level, something Cameron never had.
Not a fan of either Fischer or Ireland. I like and respect what Fischer did for Tennessee, and it shows what you can do when dedicating yourself to a coach for the long haul. But I want someone more cutting edge. Fischer isn't going to be that guy.
Career winning record and consistently competitive teams. 6 trips to the playoffs in 17 years isn't anything exceptional, but it seems above average. Also Tennessee, when he was there, often seemed like a team that played above what their level of talent would lead one to expect. JMO. Of the ones being suggested, he'd be 3rd if it were up to me, after the Chin and Chucky. I'd rather have him than someone like another Cameron. A solid coordinator who was never a successful head coach at any level.
Honestly, there may be a better chance of this happening than many think or want to realize. Jeff is a prick, but he's probably trying his best behind the scenes to convince Stephen Ross that none of this is his fault....that all the bad moves were instigated by Bill.....and that his good moves this year were hurt by poor coaching. The reason is could very well be Jeff Fisher? Jeff's favorite team is the Chicago Bears, and he was a ball boy for that 1985 Bears team that Jeff Fisher was basically a defensive assistant coach on. Also, Jeff's grandfather is the guy who scouted Jeff Fisher when he was a player coming out of USC.
