I never, ever believed that report. It doesn't pass the smell test. Bill Cowher knows how this business works.

The report I believe came from Jeff Darlington and a few others that did some truthful reporting at the time (Examples of reports you didn't hear out of Darlington: The 49ers just increased their offer! Now Miami did too, they're willing to make Harbaugh the highest paid coach ever! Harbaugh is on the plan with Ross! Carl Peterson is on the plane with Ross! Tony Sparano just quit!). Darlington said that Miami did reach out to Cowher through intermediaries but that Cowher just isn't ready to come back yet. That simple. That understandable. None of this stupid nonsense about hanging up the phone until Sparano is fired.

The most interesting aspect of La Canfora's report was the contradiction. Gruden is the first choice but Cowher will ultimately be the guy. La Canfora had been reporting about three weeks ago that Gruden was Ross' top target.

Not sure I buy the stuff he's hearing about "iron clad" language in the ESPN contract. Jason Cole just reported yesterday that Gruden has been out there telling anyone who will listen that he's gearing up for a return to coaching this off season, even with the ESPN extension in place.

I just want to know if the ranking is JLC's opinion...or is he using INSIDE INFO and someone telling him who is 1A and who is 1B, etc.

And it's also really interesting how the common opinion of Omar Khan has changed around here. About three weeks or a month ago, Omar Khan was consistently brought up by people on the board as one of the negatives that come with the Cowher hiring, that he would bring a capologist to be his GM so that Cowher himself would end up dominating all the personnel decisions. Now suddenly Omar Khan is the crown jewel of the Cowher deal.

This is exciting news if there's any truth to it. I wish they could have got it done last January but now we should at least be in a position to get a better QB than we would have in the last draft.

I started a thread about Khan in the Club Level about three weeks or a month ago. I'd seen so many people talking down the Cowher option because of Omar Khan that I felt like we should really look into Khan's background and set the story straight.

I love Omar Khan. He's really good friends with Mike McCarthy from the time the two were in New Orleans together and Omar basically served as McCarthy's personal offensive assistant. He's regarded really highly in the Steelers organization and Kevin Colbert discusses personnel and scouting with him all the time, he's considered to be very much 'in the loop' on the scouting process. When the Steelers hired him, it was purely off reputation...and the guy was only like 28 years old at that time. When Dan Rooney got the call from Obama to be his ambassador to Ireland, the two Rooneys actually got into a fight over Khan because Dan wanted him to come to Ireland with him and be his right hand man, while Art Rooney wanted him to stay in Pittsburgh and continue to help the football team. Art Rooney won.

I just think the change in tenor around here about Omar Khan is interesting.

if it's true that he really can assess players, then I will be ok with it. although the trouble that we have found with Ireland is the difference between assessing NFL players and scouting college players. I'm assuming that Khan would want to poach scouts from other teams that he knows...Steelers, Saints and maybe Packers

On the surface I would be more warm to Khan than a Randy Mueller type, but would also seem to violate Ross' "rule" about learning on the job. But applying that rule literally would mean we would be limited to only hiring current GMs with expiring contracts...

I will not fall for that banana in the tail pipe again, did it once with that fat POS, of course I will support my next coach and do my part to create an environment for him to succeed, but I will not think because of his past, that we are guranteed similar successes.

Listening to Sirius Radio today, Pat Kirwin said he was with Cowher AND Marino this past weekend and he had talked to Cowher at least 4 times today. He said FIRMLY, dont believe this crap being reported by everyone who has a microphone. Cowher has not talked to the Fins and Marino has not been talking TO The Fins ABOUT Cowher. Now to be honest, I can see Kirwin having a dog in this fight. He would cover for a friend, if needed. He did say Cowher would NOT talk about a job that was not available by having a HC on the job at the time. I am a sucker for believing most people but I dont know WHAT to believe now.

Just putting this out there. You decide.

The media is runin with this, that Ross has once again interfered while the current coach is in place, how the hell is this team literally suppose to function at all under this whirlwind so early in the season without continuing to damage the reputation, somebody is gonna have to start talkin on our end, or this sh%$ is gonna get out of control..am I overreacting here..??

I think not having Fisher even in the conversation is the biggest mistake of all. I will say this about Cowher, he didn't give up, took him 15 yrs to win a SB in Pittsburgh.

    Think about it.

I liked Gruden 1st too. But how could you be disappointed with the chin? Bill Cowher has consistently had his team in contention, I would kill just for the Dolphins just to MATTER again, I'm not even thinking ahead to championship right now. I'm so sick of being the joke of the league I puke myself to sleep.

Worst case scenario: Cowher is hired before the end of the season and we win a game, screwing us out of Andrew Luck.
