Just had a very pleasant interview with Josh McCown, who is my early pick to be the Dolphins starting quarterback in the season-opener.

I lobbed the typical softballs for McCown, you know, how he's getting acclimated and stuff like that. But there were also some pointed questions during the interview that he handled well -- like a routine snap from center.

I asked him why we should believe he can be a success in Miami when he hasn't been in Oakland, Detroit or Arizona. I asked him if he believes he can be one of those late-blooming QBs such as Rich Gannon that become proficient later in his career. I asked him specifically what he believes will make him better in Miami?

IMO, McCown will be the starter because Tunaland has a history of using the veteran guy rather than the young QBs... Look at Dallas, where they had Testeverde and Bledsoe... Vinny in NY, Bledsoe in NE....Even Simms was in the league for a couple of years before he started for Parcells...

That's the question. Three teams that have been looking for the answer at QB let this guy go and went a different direction. 7 years, three teams, with one of teams having him run with the WRs. His last stop Oakland who let him go a year after they traded for him. Miami signs him for backup money, with no competitor for his services.

I hope he turns out great, but I'm having a hard time believing it.

Testaverde and Bledso were PROVEN winners. McCown, for all his toughness, based on his track record is not a PROVEN winner. If anything, you could argue the opposite, but I won't b/c he's on my team now. Sparano will go with whatever guy he sees being capable of leading this team to victories. Nothing else matters.

I also think McCown will be the starter. I watched him play against Denver last year and even though he was banged up he played really well. Many QB's struggle early in their careers, like Steve Young. But I think he has the experience edge over Beck and Henne so I think McCown will start.

McCown to me is no different from most of the quarterbacks we've had already. Some games he'll play good, some he'll play horrible and maybe he has one or two very good games. Inconsistency and even mediocrity. He's a quarterback that will take a team to either 6-10 or 10-6 depending on the talent that is around him. The best thing i like about him is that i know what to expect for the most part. No surprises.

Bledsoe and Vinny were proven journeymen QBs. Not great, but serviceable. Neither won anything big or could take their teams to any SBs... McCown is certainly a step down from either of them, I'll agree, but Tunaland just doesn't like to put young QBs in to run the team...it's their history...

I find it hard to believe that McCown would be our started. I just don't think he's that good. He's got experience on his side, sure, but he's inconsistent and overall, just not that great. Maybe I'd just rather see one either Henne or Beck win the job though. However, if through camp and the preseason McCown proves me wrong and shows he can be the starter for this team and wins the job, then im all for it!

I don't care who starts, just so longas we don't see all 3 Quarterbacks on the roster again this year. That, in my opinion, would be a huge improvement.

Armando says McCown is the pick to start? Yes. That means its' down to Beck and Henne.

Although that may be true, I think that in order for McCown to win, Beck or Henne would have to really stink it up or not be much of an improvement.

I think this time they go with Beck to be honest and will groom Henne with McCown only here to serve as a back-up man plain and simple.

That was the biggest cheap shot statement I've ever seen... This is why Armando Salguero is a complete hack.

    Completely agree.

Bringing Henne to Miami was based purely on value. The Dolphins didn't expect Merling to fall to #32, so they took him. I have a feeling that Henne was #2 or #3 on their board at that point, I guarantee you we were considering him at #32. When he fell to #57, it was obvious that we would take him. If we were considering him at #32, then we'd be all over him at #57. Henne was selected out of value, not because the front office didn't like John Beck. I think Beck will do well in the NFL, I expect him to start in 2008.

I don't are who starts but I hope whoever emerges is clearly better than the other 2. If it's close, we could see the QB carousel that is always destined for failure. If the competition is close we need to choose the QB with the highest ceiling early, so he gets reps with the starters, and stick with him. Otherwise it's a waste.
