I think it's fair to start debating this.

I'm torn. I think Cam Cam's was worse, but of course, we saw their WHOLE season. Sparano may still win a few games.

    It's damned close though.

I'd say Sparano's. Cameron dealt with injuries to it's starting QB, starting RB, starting WR, starting safeties (3), starting CB, starting MLB, starting DE. That team was killed with injuries. This team at the least still has had most of it's "playmakers" minus Henne.

Cam's Phins. This year's team plays stiffer competition within the division.

Talent wise, the 2007 team by far. Terrible coaching and QB play might catapult this team past the 07 squad though.

There's one simple problem with this group. There's a poor use of resources and coaching going on. They are more talented than that group. The reason they have no pass rush is that Nolan is stubborn about having his interior defensive line two-gap. That opened things up for Manning. When Miami went into their nickel or dime they simply didn't have the CB talent or really good S to make up for it.

    On offense Colombo is miserable.

The players quit on Cam.These players have not quit on Tony.

In addition I think we have more talent on this team .I still dont think we are the worst team in the NFL but our coaching may be the worst .

I think the Colts and Rams are worse talent wise.

I'd forgoteen about the injuries. And we were already losing lots with Henne, so you may be right.

This team would trounce the 2007 team. It basically boils down to bad coaching. The 2007 team had zero talent.

I agree. The thing is Ireland HAS been good at putting talent on the field, but it's like there is a disconnect between the type of talent he gets and how the coaches use them.

GM/Head Coach chemistry is off. That's what it seems like.

I'd love to know if Columbo was Sparano's idea or Irelands, because that will say volumes about where the mistakes are coming from.

A very easy way to tell what games Miami will win is you have to look at team's rush defense. If Miami can't run their done.

What a confusing team this year. You want to blame the players, but we have talent on the field. You want to blame the coach, but his players are playing hard for him. It's obvious to me, Tony is just here out of pride. He hates it here. This organization is a joke.
    Is it game planning?

I agree, and have said the coaching sucks too. But really, what do we mean when we accuse Sparano of bad coaching? I want to make sure we know what we're accusing him of and why.

    I see:
    - wasted timeouts
    - poorly prepared and conditioned players (beginnings of season)
    - inability to assess, choose, develop effective O-line despite massive money and draft picks spent on it
    - QB's who do not develop
    - players played out-of-position or used inefficiently (long list in a recent post on Crowder, or was it Armando? PLayers listed who were misused)
    - play-it-safe playcalling when the situation screamed for going-for-it (down by a lot of points, nothing to lose and kneeling or punting)

Those are off the top of my head.

What am I missing? What defines his 'bad coaching' evidence, to you?

The 2007 team was old, injured and had no talent.

This team has some pieces, we just need a new coaching staff, a pair of safeties, a pass rusher, a nickle corner a quarterback and a few offensive lineman. The 2007 team had no building blocks to speak of.

Made worse by DThomas being nicked up all the time and Bush not being a reliable 4 yards per carry back.

I feel like they plan okay, but are horrible at adjusting on game day. Completely horrible. Some opposing players have even pointed out that we don;'t adjust at ALL i the second half when they are killing us with stuff in the first half.

I don't see where it matters much but I would say Sporano's hands down. Reason is that this is Sporano's 4th season with all his own players now. Cam only had Ted Ginn !!!

I think it's worse that a team with as much talent that Sparano has to work with (albeit, cobbled together rather poorly) is underachieving as badly as the 2007 team did.

I think the 2007 team would win. Ireland has done a terrible job rebuilding the Dolphins. I feel there were more talented players on the 2007 team than this 2011 version of the Dolphins. It just so happened that the 2007 Dolphins were coached by one of the worst head coaches in the history of the NFL. Most of the veteran players on the 2007 couldn't stand Cameron and their play on the field reflected their dislike for him.
With a different HC in 2007, I believe Dolphins would have won far more than the one game they won during that season.
The 2011 players are still playing hard for Sparano, but they just aren't very talented. At least they are probably the best 0 win team in the NFL, because the Colts really suck.

Garner didn't make me wish Richie Incognito was out there by any means. Why on earth he hasn't replaced Colombo at RT is beyond me.

As for Cook, didn't really notice him much; though the line went south rather quickly in the 4th quarter against a predominantly 4-man rush.

Interesting. Most people are saying Sprano's team is more talented and his coaching is worse. They think Cam Cam had no talented players.

So you obviously think very little of this current roster.

Also, Cam Cam had injuries, did he not? Ricky Williams. Wasn;t Ronnie Brown lost too? And Will Allen? Who else?

Can I answer that? It's bad coaching. Sparano has said he wants Garner there to be the swing man to cover four positions on Oline as a backup.

How it makes sense to prioritize your backup's availability over your starting Right Tackle is beyond me.

Sparano has a fetish for players with Oline flexibility though.

I'm not surprised Garner did well. Cook was not the source of the pass rush coming in at the end. I honestly think he's a solid player, probably his best at C and his numbers in Minnesota were solid. The right side is miserable and Long hasn't been playing well.

You know the entire ENVIRONMENT of the team is bad when even Jake Long's play is dropping off.

Garner played relatively well and made a case for more playing time (I'm looking at you Marc Columbo). Cook came in and things fell apart.

I'm not 100% sure who is responsible for the protection calls (my guess is Pouncey or Incognito), but when we lost Pouncy the Giants blitzes became much more effective.

I will give Cook a pass on that last drive. Protection calls can be a bit tough and Pouncey is a good player, but I'd like to watch Cook run block. I think it's time Incognito were shifted to RG.

2007. We know that team had no solution, and would have been 0-16 had it not been for one Camarillo catch and run. This team has the worst coaching I have ever seen, but on any given Sunday Sparano and Nolan could get an epiphany, stop being so damned stubborn, do something different and actually win a close game, like today's against the Giants. Think of it. If not for brain farts, they could be 3-4 today instead of 0-7, and we'd have no chance at all in the Luck Sweepstakes. Today the Rams dropped out of the ranks of the unbeaters, and at this point only the Colts are ahead of us.

The Rams may pick it up. With Bradford back they very well may win 3-4 games total. Indy though isn't going away.

You are correct. I do think very little of this 2011 roster. In fact I would not be surprised if the next regime doesn't get rid of at least 90% of the players on this roster over the next two to three years. On offense the only players I still see on the Dolphins in three years are Long and Pouncey. At one time I thought Thomas might be a keeper but he is injured more than he is healthy. I can't see the new regime wanting any of the other players on offense on this team when the 2014 begins.

On defense, I just don't see anyone who is playing at a level which would make a new GM and HC want to build around them. Vontae Davis is a decent CB, but I don't see the Dolphins wanting to sign him to a long term, high salaried contract, based on his play so far. The rest of the secondary players all need to be replaced over the next few years.

At LB, Wake and Dansby will both be 33 years old in three years. Their best years will be behind them and they will both need to be replaced. Burnett and Misi are average to below average players and I don't see the new HC and GM keeping either of them around for long.

I expect Soliai to be gone after this season in free agency. He isn't worth the millions they are paying him this season and I don't think the new GM will be willing to pay him the money he is looking for in a long term contract. I think Odrick will prove to be a bust as a first round pick. Starks and Langford are worth keeping around for the long term because Starks is only 27 and Langford is only 25.

The new regime obviously can't get rid of 90% of the roster in one season or even two seasons, but I have no doubt that by the time the third year of this new regime is in place, the vast majority of the players Ireland picked for this roster will be long gone from Miami.

I might look at Feinga at RT actually. I really do think Garner has shown he's quality at LG, nothing special but just a good player you don't need to spend huge sums upgrading over.
