I have been a Dolphan for over 40 years, I remember the good days, the bad days, and the tweener days. And I cannot ever think of a day where I would want the Phins to lose a game for a draft pick. Not for nothing, but if I recall the greatest Qb to ever lace em up wasn't a #1 overall pick. I know because I laughed my behind off whent the NY Jests picked a dude named Kenny O'Brian as their QB several picks ahead of Dan the Man. Yet I could only get about half way through the game day thread because though they deny it there are SFLers that actually overtly root for Miami to lose. I can only say is becarefule of what you wish for. This tean has a lot more holes than just Qb to take care of. Don't get me wrong, I want Luck to be our pick, but I have always lived and died with the Phins, and a possible draft pick is not going to change that.
You'd rather root for guaranteed mediocrity than a sacrifice in exchange for the prospects of something better? Seriously, rooting for this team to win means we're okay remaining in football-purgatory. < 9 wins gets us nothing; especially given this season. Absolutely nothing. In that case, congrats to getting above .500 for the year... what now? So, would you still prefer to root for nothing, or a potentially brighter future?
Sigh here we go again... I'm on the sfl bandwagon and I've been on the phins side my whole life. My first words as a a baby was "rino" as in my Marino stuffed toy ( lol ) .. suck for luck isn't about rooting for your team to lose. I watch the games, I look for the positives and all sfl does for me is ease the pain when we lose. If you honestly think fans are "cheering" at mistakes and losses, you have downs. We just know that wins are nice, losses are tolerable and there is a light at the end of the suck tunnel
There is no guarantee Luck ends up with the dolphins or that he will be as good as advertised.Don't get me wrong I think he will be good but we just can't assume he will be the next hall of famer. In the mean time i want to see them win.
No... Just saying, I remember the countless years of getting the 16th pick, and being deflated about what we got with it, but I would always be some what relevant. Rooting for your team to be batter than slugs, doesn't necessarily mean you don't want to be better, it just means you don't want to suck. There is nothing that says that you can't sell out future picks to get what you need. I don't know, maybe it's just I don't like to lose?
I'm sure many people thought Jimmy Johnson with Dan Marino were a guarantee of Superbowls to come or that Nick Saban was the coach to turn it around or Daunte Culpepper would fill the Marino void. There is no guarantee who the next head coach will be or if they will be good, if they will come here because of Luck or in spite of him or if we will continue to be horrible (unless they keep this staff & GM). I can promise you that a culture of losing is a hard thing to change and letting it continue is the wrong way to go even with the inevitable changes to come.
statistics (don't lie), play style, presence, pocket smarts in and out, quick release accuracy, hype (goes a long way), dependability... Theres more. But mostly point to you being incorrect. You don't have to think hes going to be a hall of famer to know that he can get things done and is a top shelf player, not to mention the best in a long.... Long.... Time
In terms of this year, you're basically rooting for the 4th place mediocrity that a 9 win record gets us in this division.
I agree, the Colts are tanking it big time. I think we may need to go winless just to get the #2 pick and our choice of the "other" QB's.
Exactly, how is rooting to lose going to change that culture. Sorry I cant do it, I would love for Miami to get luck, but at what cost? Tell me you haven't seen Qb's be ruined by bad teams. Hell, I was trying to say, gotta forgive me I was at work during the game and am in the process of getting hammered now so It may not be coming across right. But I remember wishing we had beter draft picks, but never at the expense of getting wins.
For me it comes down to what is best for the phins long term. I think getting a hire draft pick and possibly Luck will help us long term. This team is getting blown up regardless after the season, so I am not sure what going 4 - 12 is going to do for us. Lets give the new coach a high as draft as possible. Personally I think the Colts are going to win the race to the bottom but still I would like a high draft pick in a year were supposedly there are a number of quality QB's. I actually root for the fins to lose. I smiled when I heard the news that they lost to Denver and the Giants. If you classify me as a bad fan, I understand. But it has taken years of crappy coaching, players, and general decision making to get me to the point where I am doing this. I really want a quality QB. I have just hit my personnel limit this year, and I want someone to replace Dan that can at least hold his jock strap. The list of sub par QB's in Miami since Dan's departure is disheartening. I have never pulled for the Dolphins to lose before this year for the record. So I understand if you disagree w/ me or think I am crazy for pulling against the Dolphins, but again I think it's worth the pain in the short term to get better in the long term.
I do not want mediocrity for my team, but as much as I would like to see us draft Mr. Luck, I cannot get on board with SFL. Perhaps it is a sauve to some for the season and I can understand that, I just cannot do it.
Why can't people realize that sfl isn't about hoping for/enjoying losses? All its doing is easing the pain . Instead of wanting to cut yourself after losing out, you atleast know we have a chance at a franchise qb and a staff overhaul.? Wtf is wrong with people. Most of us aren't going "**** yea!!! Were losing!!!"..... Dude the phins motto has been "maybe next season" since I was born. Atleast it means something now.
I never said they were, but you are still leaving out Ken O'brian. lol Ihave a funny story about him BTW. My point is #1 draft pick doesn' always wind up being the best pick.
It's not like it suprised anyone or their grandmothers we blew a lead in the last ten minutes of the game.. which again makes sfl an easy concept to grasp. Losing is starting to seem like it comes natural to this staff and I'm over it
Ahhh... now we get to the point. I never said I classify anyone as a bad fan. I said "I" could never root for Miami to lose. There is a difference. While I hate to see my team lose, others might not feel the same way.
Look, I don't think anyone is crazy fpr pulling to get Luck, Me personally agree we need a "franchise QB" however, I'm willing to bet that most SFLers are of the younger generation. Only because, I remember getting to the Super Bowl withWood Strock., do i think it is'nt the be all end all. I know the league is more pass freindly than in past eras. Really this isn't an arguement that can be lost or won, you either want the team to win, or you want the team tobe in a position to improve, maybe.
I am just expressing how I feel about the situation in general and it wasn't meant as a counter point to any one individual's argument. I am not trying to convince you to come over to my position. I am just explaining how I see things. I understand and appreciate your point of view.
But 99% of the time, the 1st overall pick of the draft isn't as good as Andrew Luck is coming out of college. There's a reason he's being dubbed the best prospect since John Elway in 1983. I'd think the 18 quarterbacks we've had since Dan Marino retired would only reinforce the need to address that position, and Andrew Luck by all accounts is the easiest way to fix that, and fix it for good.
I can't help it bro, I am the consement homer, I want it all, I want to win, and Iwant to improve. I never said I had a realistic point of view, It' just that two weeks in a row we had a chance to win, and there were "fans" that were actualy bemoaning the fact that we were winning. and that just doesn" go ove with me well. Especially when said individual swear up and down that they don't overtly root for the phins to lose.
I love how people say "I will never root for my team to lose", but also say "I want Andrew Luck". Talk about an oxymoron. You either want to lose because you want Andrew Luck, or you want to put together a few meaningless wins for whatever reasons I'm not able to comprehend.
As messed up as it sounds, some would probably tell you that by losing today, you're actually winning in the future. You move on from this terrible coaching staff, poor front office, and potentially end up with the best prospect in the past 25 years at the position that's held us back for the past 11. With a better coach, the Miami Dolphins probably would've won today. With a better team of players, the Dolphins probably would've won today. You can root for them to win all you want in 2011; odds are they probably won't.
I love how people root for against the Dolphins for something that may never happen. I choose to root for my team to win and let things fall as they will.
What's to comprehend? Really? Do you enjoy roting for a loser? Hell I don't. You enjoy explaining your support for a loser, I don't. Like I said, I'm a consamate homer, I want it all.
Look, I've been criticizing this team close to a decade. I'm sick of the mediocrity, taking us, fans, granted and no-future plans and saying "Well, there's always next year" when there's not. We suck. We suck for a long time. And this season is a perfect time to suck to get a franchise-type QB. Really, what does 2, 3, 4, 5 wins mean right now? Nothing...
fellow dolphin fans i think we need to stop focusing on Andrew Luck because he isnt the only qb i dont mind it if we win 4 or 5 games because i hate losing but we need to look at the other qb's and we need to get used to it that we may not get him just like other posters have said. i think if we cant get luck that we need to trade down and get more 2nd rd picks or whatnot and get more skill players on offense. here is wht would be cool if it can hapen and that is trade down get wr justin Blackmon and in rd 2 take Weeden , and in rd three take the best tightend that we can get and then get 2 olinemen and 2 cb's or 2 safeties.
That is a ton of "Ifs" but hell when you are on the floor there is nothing better to do than get up. D folded today man. That has to be fixed soon.
LOL, have I mentioned I have been drinking? I can not remember ever thinking. If I lose it will help those who come after me. Ever! You might say that is selfish, but I cant ever and I repeat ever thinking that way.
