So my fantasy team has done well so far, im 5-2 and picked up Tebow 2 weeks ago in preparation for the bye week for my QB knowing he'd have the Dolphins this past week (unfortunately). The ending of this past game was bittersweet as you could imagine with Tebow leading his team from behind, and getting me 26.9 points and also getting us closer to Luck. But I digress...

My question here is what to do with Tebow going forward, I am currently starting Ryan Fitzpatrick after I traded an underwhelming Philip Rivers for an underwhelming Chris Johnson. Fitz has been ok since I plugged him into my starting lineup and I am comfortable with him going forward. But Tebow has those tasty rushing yards that really can jump a crappy day for a QB up to a good one... so who would you start this week?

    Fitz against Washington in Buffalo
    Tebow against Detroit in Denver

Both pass defenses have been pretty good this year, but Detroits run defense has not been. I am thinking of sticking with Fitz until Tebow shows me consistently that he'll be a viable fantasy QB, but you look at Tebow even last year and you know those rushing yards/TDs really make him a desirable start.

In Tebow's last 5 games he saw significant action (Dolphins game, half of Chargers game this year, last 3 games started last year) hes averaged 11.24 points from rushing yards/TDs/2pters alone! In total his last 5 games (4 starts plus another half in SD) hes averaged 27.1 fantasy points per game in my league, and if you only count full games hes started, 29.2 the past 4 games. That would put him top 4th in FPPG average in my league tied with Cam Newton.

So my dilemma going forward is to stick with Fitz (13.1 FPPG over last 3 games)? Or ride out with Tebow, enjoy the bump in the rushing department but risk the crap game like he was almost having this week if not for the final 5 minutes. Though Tebow had 6.4 pts going into the drive with 5 minutes left where the Broncos exploded. I guess thats just as bad as Fitz getting me an 8pt game 3 weeks ago...

Hmm i think im talking myself into Tebow here, whats anyone elses take?

Fitzpatrick. Tebow can't throw. He's a fine backup for those rushing yards, but barring a bye week or injury don't talk yourself into doing something silly like playing the far inferior QB of the 2.

Tebow was the number one fantasy QB over the last three games last year, so it's far from a slam dunk.

fantasy football isn't about who the better QB is though... Matt Ryan is a better QB than Mark Sanchez, but Sanchez is the better fantasy QB so far this year... has nothing to do with who is a better skilled QB... just about them points...

thats what makes it a tough decision... any time Tebow has taken the field as a starter, hes excelled FANTASY wise...

Interesting, I'm trying to unload Tebow and Torain for Chris Johnson, of 3 points fame.

I started Tebow last week, and won. But halfway through the 4th, he had like 45 yards passing. It's maddening.

No need to lecture me on the difference between fantasy QB and real NFL QB. I'm aware. Fitzpatrick is the better fantasy QB THIS year. Tebow played like garbage for 55 minutes against a terrible Miami defense. His supporting cast this year is much worse than last year. I know he can put up points. I have him as a backup on my team. But I wouldn't even dream of starting him unless my QB was on bye. Even if that QB was Ryan Fitzpatrick.

If you want to role with Tebow, go with your gut. If might work out, but if I had to speculate, I think you'll live to regret the decision. For this week anyway.

i understand what your saying, but i just dont see how you can say Fitz has been the better fantasy QB this year and be so definitive about the choice... in two appearances (1.5 games) Tebow averaged 22.6 pts per game in my league, Fitz 20.6...

obviously Tebow has a small sample size, but i just dont see it as cut and dry that I wouldn't even dream of starting him...

Tebow finished this last game with 26.3 pts, and he only passed for 161yds and 2 TDs, its not like he had a world beater day those are passing numbers that are not that difficult to duplicate... he played good for 5 minutes and the worst hes ever played in his career the other 55... i dont think he'll duplicate the late game heroics every game, but he also wont duplicate the horrendous play before that every game... and even with being horrendous for most of the game he finished with more points than Fitz has had since week 2

i dont know, im still on the fence, just dont think its such a no brainer like you do...

Tebow. In the 4 games he has started he has ended up as a top 6 fantasy QB for that week. He'll almost always score double digits because of his legs and is on a crappy team that will be throwing a lot in garbage time.

Plus, hasn't Fitz cooled off a bit from earlier in the year?

Fitz has cooled off quite a bit, 13 fppg in the last 3 (coincidentally since i traded Rivers and began starting him)... i do have Steve Johnson though, so i'll be pissed if I start Tebow and all of a sudden Johnson gets 3 TDs and i could have had the double points....

but just playing the numbers and the statistics... Tebow has shown he can be a high scoring fantasy QB

Again 4 career starts Tebow has averaged 29.2 FPPG, lets compare to Cam Newton in 7 career starts, averaging 29.2 FPPG... if this question was Cam Newton or Fitz, im sure everyone would say Cam in a heartbeat... but Tebow there is hesitation... 7 > 4 of course, but still Tebow has some sample size to consider...

so also for this week the matchup comes into play... my opponent usually starts 3 Buccaneers and Matt Forte, all of whom are on a bye, so hes got a lot of backups in there this week...

So for me, starting Fitz is always smart since I got Steve Johnson too and can get those double points... this week though I have the advantage in most categories one would think and would want to just make sure none of his players could explode... so playing Tebow basically cancels Decker if he happens to be the explodee...

i think i'll have a game time decision on my hands, haha... though im pretty confident starting either...

What did you end up going with? Not sure about your scoring, but Fitz did much better in our league. I think the biggest mistake in your Tebow analysis is using last year's supporting cast and data to determine your starter. This year's Broncos are much less potent offensively and have a defensive minded 3 yards and a cloud of dust Sparano type idiot calling the shots.

That's surprising. I didn't watch the Buffalo game, but Tebow had a really poor game. I would have expected a bigger discrepancy. It was a 6.4 pt discrepancy in my Yahoo league. I guess even with a horrid game, Tebow does enough that he always gets you some points.

Tebow ended up with 15.1 and Fitzpatrick 18.8... we get .1 for every 2.5 yards passing, 6 for a TD, .1 for every 1 yard rushing, -2 INT, -2 Fumble lost

Tebow finished with 63 rushing yards so that extra 6.3 points is what made it respectable...

What's even more shocking is that Tebow had only 2 points less than Drew Brees in my league. I guess it's not super shocking considering Brees played a pretty lousy game, but still. Tebow does produce points, I'll give him that. But now it's a question of whether or not he can hold onto the starting job playing that bad.

I love how the ad in the first post of this thread is for an evangelical seminary. I'm guessing that is somehow triggered by Tebow discussion...

ugh its almost another dilemma this week... haha

I want to stay away from Tebow with how bad he looked last week, but Fitz is playing the Jets who are not giving up many points to opposing fantasy QBs... and im playing the first place team in my division, an important week... ****

    damn Jets!

I would advise sticking with Fitz since he's at home. I have a hunch he'll figure out a way to attack that Jets secondary.

I'm in the exact same situation with this week's game deciding first place. My decision is easier though with Drew Brees as my starter.

**** me, this week if i would have went with Tebow, i would have a 7 point lead going into tonights game... my opponent has Lesean Mccoy but still, i would at least have a chance... Tebow got 16 more points than Fitz this week...

I was going back and forth with who to have in my starting spot with that Jets matchup for Fitz, and i changed it back sunday morning to Fitz... ugh damn you tebow and revis

Yeah, Tebow managed to score 4 points more than Brees. My dilemma is, Brees is on bye week 11 and Tebow is playing the Jets. I'm not sure I can trust him against that defense. I'd hate to drop him though based on what he did yesterday. I'll have to see what my record is. If McCoy does well tonight I'll be 8-1 and might be able to afford to take one on the chin week 11.

You want to talk about boneheaded moves: I figured Dwayne Bowe would have a huge game against us yesterday. So I traded away Legarette Blount and Julio Jones to get him. If I had just rolled with Jones I would already have this week's game won. Oh well.

ouch Blount and Jones for Bowe... i mean i have Bowe so i obviously like him, but that was a lot, he should get back into the end zone though again like he was earlier in the year so it could still pan out well...

As for QB, you having Brees is an easy decision, except on that bye week i guess, in regard to Tebow... but with Fitzpatrick its just a tough choice... this week i was afraid of Tebow getting pulled if he started off real crappy after how he played the prior week... but now that he had a good game, i dont think he'll get pulled any time soon... so even with a horrendous game, those rushing yards probably make him worth starting for me...

this week Tebow is @ KC and we saw what the Dolphins just did to them, and Fitz is @ Dallas who is an up and down team, but decent defense... but still Fitz hasn't gotten me over 20 points since week 3!

ugh i think i need to do like John Fox, put in Tebow being hes shown Fantasy consistency these last 3.5 games and see how he does... Fitz has shown consistent fantasy mediocrity his last 5 games... i think my sample size may be big enough to make the switch...
