Brandon Weeden. The best pure passer in this draft.

Obviously, because of his age issue.....hes gonna be 29 when he starts his first NFL game, Weeden will never get taken over Luck. But...if you dont get Andrew Luck, I think Brandon Weeden is prize 1A. I think hes a better pure passer then Luck, but Luck does add the element of mobility. Hes a clone between Peyton Manning and Aaron Rogers. But Brandon Weeden will lead an explosive attack in the NFL of that their is little doubt....

Heres a great breakdown from the UD guys last season. The only other QB I could watch just throw over and over again...was our own Dan Marino, and Brandon Weeden is like that. Pay attention to the clips from behind....watch the top of his helmet...watch him go through his reads....and then once he makes a decision to throw....try and time how long it takes from when he makes that decision, to how long before the ball reaches the reciever, and its usually right on the money.

    Enjoy this.....

You wanna see a beautiful play action.....and then one of the best back shoulder throws this side of Aaron Rogers?

    3:34

At 4:03....this ball is just a flat lazer....and then the next throw...all touch....

4:50....balls in the air...look at Blackmond....not even looking yet. Perfect arch....perfect spot right in the corner of the endzone. All the reciever has to do is stick out his hands....he could have caught it blindfolded

I`ve said it numerous times, whoever drafts Weeden will make their fans very happy. Although Luck is more athletic this guy has GREAT awareness, progresses through his reads like a pro and has arm strength to go along with it. I would be very happy if we end up with him.

I think people need to overlook a qb's age because justbecause a qb is a little older doent mean he will have a shorter life span.

plus there are older qbs years ago that played a few years longer because of the it factor in smarts and desire and My boy Weeden has those skills.

what do you gus think of Rnadal the rb and Josh Cooper the wr ?

I don't know vt. If Weeden were a little older than the norm, like 25, it would not bother me because I do like his talent. I know QB's are different but, most players are in their prime at 25 to 28. I may very well be very wrong in not wanting to take him in the first round.

As far as the Phins taking him, I cannot even imagine that happening unless Shula came back to coach with Marino as his OC, and both saying he is the answer.

Does it really matter though? Would you rather have 5-7 years of good to great QB play from Weeden, or 10-15 years of Landry "Chad Henne 2.0" Jones? Easy answer for me. Weeden is my 3rd favorite QB after Luck and Barkley. Then RG3, then perhaps Jones.

Yeah, plus you might not need to put too much onto his contract given he'll probably collect social security before his rookie contract is over.

I'd take him, but not at #2 which is around where we'd probably pick if we don't get #1.

What did we get out of Ronnie Brown. If he lives up to the hype and gives us 8 good years, so be it. We'll have 8 more 1st round draft picks until then.

Comparing Ronnie Brown to Brandon Weeden is an apples to oranges comparison. Most athletes hit their physical peak in the age rang eof 25-28, give or take a year or two. After that, their physical skills tend to decline, some positions more sharply than others. At the quarterback position, physical skills mean less than mental skills, and quarterbacks tend to sharper their mental skills as they age.

Weeden is probably at his physical peak already. That physical peak is pretty dang good. What we do not know about him is his mentality, with the exception that he knows his offense so well that he taught it to OSU's new offensive coordinator after Dana Holgorsen left for WVU.

i agree. he would have been the perfect last year instead of Pouncey. a pick like #2 is too much to spend on a guy that probably at his physical peak. the expectations for him will be high. he will need to produce right away

I don't know, I am not as up to speed on the college game as I used to be. But he is up there in age, and while if we pick him it won't be in a vacuum, if the line isn't much improved, he would be nothing more than a stop gap type. He's a 5 to 7 year type QB tops, and while I hate to admit it I want a franchise QB that will be he 10+ years, like a Luck.

He just turned 28 years old. He's not 29. He'll turn 29 during his rookie season. But he'll also lead his team to a lot of wins during his rookie season. Wake up and smell the talent. Anyone that compares him to Chris Weinke isn't paying attention to what he's doing on the field.

Completely different levels of talent, Weinke had a pop gun arm and no toughness, I watched him plain in Carolina, Weeden is a different level entirely.

I didn't compare him to Weinke. However I do believe you do kinda need to take age into consideraton. Not so mich his skill set, but that of our line at the present moment, not to mention our recievers. I'm not an SFLer but I do agree we need to think long term, and at his age he cuts about 4 to 5 years off the long term.

Of course you need to take age into consideration. But you also need to appreciate the talent we're talking about, and what it could do for this team.

If Miami gets a crack at Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley then I'm all for taking them. But if not then I think the guy needs to be Brandon Weeden. You'll have 5 or 6 years to figure out the sequel at the QB position, and that's plenty. That's not a "stop gap". If you get real lucky he may even give you 8 years.

You also have to think that if you do go the Weeden route, you're going to get a significant player with that high 1st round pick, that can add to the talent pool on this team and help make them a better team, sooner. The key is that taking Weeden isn't "settling" from a pure talent standpoint. You know, let's say we can get Justin Blackmon at the top of the 1st round and then trade up from the 2nd round pick and get Brandon Weeden, or maybe even not trade up at all. It stands to reason that your team with Justin Blackmon + Brandon Weeden might be better over the next 5 years than your team with be with just Andrew Luck or just Matt Barkley. Sure, you'd get another player aside from Luck or Barkley at the #33 or #34 pick. But, who? Would he be good enough to even move the needle? Or is it another Jared Odrick/Koa Misi?

He's worth a look in the 2nd round or so, if we miss out on our franchise Qb in the first round. I just can't see spending a top 5 pick on him. There are a lot worse things to spend a top 5 pick on than a starting Qb for 7-8 years so its not the worst case scenario. He does have to start right away, if you think he needs 2-3 years before hes ready his age becomes a big roadblock.

That's a lot of ifs. I understand that for all intensive purposes we will have a completely new administration, but god only knows the last few admins have followed the same pattern of going the safe route.

I think Weeden can start in the NFL, the problem is, he is not right for...us imo, he is a sort of typical Dolphins half step, and the only way he makes sense for us is if we draft him and then sign or trade for a Vet Qb, even Henne would be fair game and I'd prefer just to push in on a Qb with the top 8 pick we are sure to have.

The Dolphins are going to sign a veteran QB regardless of who they draft. If it's Andrew Luck they're still signing a veteran to be behind him and teach show him the ropes. Not sure I see an argument that Weeden isn't right for the Dolphins.

The high pick Qb will play quickly, the Vet will be more or less a clipboard holder, with Weeden being 29, if he does not adjust quickly to the NFL, what is the future of that?

New HC is likely to tie themselves to that Qb pick, objectively would it make sense for them to make that guy Weeden?

To me, it does not make sense, but it's a funny business.

As an aside, I can see the "Weed'n" jerseys from here...

    Weeden would start immediately.

Objectively, would it NOT make sense for them to make that guy Weeden? Every new coach needs to win as much as they can, as soon as they can. Winning buys you more time to keep coaching. How can a new coach worry about 7 years down the road when he can't know if he'll be here even 3 years down the road?

This. If Luck/Barkley aren't there with our pick, you take a stud playmaker like Blackmon with our 1st, and Weeden with our 2nd. Unlike the usual bargain bin QB's you get with 2nd round picks, like Chad Henne, you're getting a legit 1st round (top 10 at least imo) talent. I'll take that type of talent for 5-7 years than no years, that's for damn sure.

Weeden isn't going to be there for that second round pick. If Luck/Barkley are off the board, then you have to choose among the next quarterback options - Brandon Weeden, Landry Jones, Robert Griffin III, and Ryan Tannehill. This first round pick MUST be a quarterback. If that pick is used on anyone other than a quarterback, then whoever the GM is will be making his first and likely job costing mistake.

I'm calling it today. Luck, Barkley, Weeden, Griffin III, Jones, and Tannehill will be first round picks in April. If you pull a Randy Mueller and go for a receiver (Blackmon) in the first round, your quarterback choices in the 2nd round are going to be limited to Ryan Lindley, Nick Foles, and Kirk Cousins.

Then you trade up. There's no way I'm taking a QB who will be 29 in his rookie season with a top 5 pick. And I'm sure most GM's will feel that way as well. I'm not trading down either.

We can't goof around and over think ourselves. If we start thinking we can go Oline early and pickup the left over Qb in the 2nd round then we have Ireland/Sparano/Parcels part II and we will be picking in the top 5 3 years from now too.

And in February of 2007, people laughed at the notion of Brady Quinn being available at #9. I was almost crucified for even suggesting such a thing.

Weeden's draft stock will entirely depend on how teams evaluate his length to impact. Some people, like CK, argue that he'll be able to start right away, and I can certain respect that point of view. I'm not sure he can, at least not "let's invest a (high) first round selection on an almost 29 year old quarterback" sure. I've always held that, by a rule of thumb, quarterbacks who play the shotgun exclusively need at least a year to adjust to a pro level offense. You can maintain that even if he did, you'd still get five or six, maybe seven good years out of him, and it's a fair point. I just don't think there'll be many NFL teams to operate under that premise with a (high) first round selection. I could see Cleveland pull the trigger at the latter part of the first round with Atlanta's selection because they're at a point in their rebuilding where it's down to QB and WR as the major needs. Blackmon/Weeden would be a pretty enticing one, two punch for them.

    Well away from here
His delivery still has the hitch in it from when he was a pitcher. It reminds me a lot of a former teammate; Kerry Collins. Once the ball comes out, it gets to its destination fast, but the problem is the time it takes for the motion to be completed. I'm not so worried about his age as I am about his motion, given that you're not going to change it significantly. There's no way that motion will change at this stage of his development.
