Well, it will be Jimmy Wilson starting at Cb, Vontae and the Staff are having a conflict about his rehab. He is using a private massage therapist, they told him to stop and just use the team facilities, VD refused Per Ben Volin. Eh, Wilson on Baldwin, what could possibly go wrong?
PFT also has the story. Apparently Merling is out for "non-injury" reasons as well. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ule-out-davis-merling-for-non-injury-reasons/
Sporano really takes the cake. This is a winnable game for us and he is pulling out starters who are physically capable of playing. You would think he would find some other disciplinary method to make his point. Well this should at least please the SFL crowd.
I can see where Vontae is coming from... I don't think the dolphins therapy staff gives happy endings...
He's just afraid if he spends any time with them, they will tell him is "only choice is to shut it down" for the rest of the year.
I've been leery of the Miami medical staff ever since they convinced Nick Saban that Drew Brees' shoulder was worse than Daunte Culpepper's knee. I'd rather have a healthy Vontae Davis in 2012 than risk him for this year's lost cause of a season.
Something that's being overlooked here because many view this as a good thing for SFL, is Vontae's play. It's been my opinion, which has been backed by PFF's stats and KC Joyner's analysis, that Vontae is GROSSLY overrated by Fins fans. Yes, he makes big hits and he's really good in run support, when motivated, but otherwise he gives up big plays, makes mistakes when the ball is in the air, and struggles to catch up. I think he's a mid level #2 CB. He got a lot of pub this offseason because of his words and he's slinked back behind an injury as an alluby on another underwhelming year. I don't get upset at a guy for using his own therapist really but I just though this would be an appropriate forum to express that he's been a disappointment IMO. His only claim to fame is a compliment from Favre, a few big hits, and a INT his rookie year vs. Moss with one hand. I'm glad Jimmy Wilson is starting.
I'm pretty sure that Parcells changed the medical staff, in addition to firing the entire coaching staff and scouting department. Even if he didn't, make no mistake, the #1 goal of sports medicine is not to treat the player effectively, it's to get him back on the field. If the coaching staff is telling the doctors "We need to get this guy playing, you need to have him out there NOW," they're going to do their best to comply.
it seems like Davis and marshall had some words exchanged. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...ins-marshall-davis?module=HP11_headline_stack
Did you guys read about the confrontation between Davis and Marshall. Apparently, BM mouthed off and VD had to be restrained. vD thinks it is why he isn't making the trip to KC http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d823cdbfc/article/fight-almost-broke-out-between-dolphins-marshall-davis?module=HP11_headline_stack [edit] just beat me
As usual, Marshall talks trash. It's what he does. I'm betting Davis did too, but wasn't happy when Marshall went to far and wanted to fight. Sh!t happens. We suck. This is what happens when your losing.
I think he has shown signs of emerging in the past, but he has regressed severely this year. He is one of the many defensive backs on this team that are simply clueless at tracking the ball when it is in the air. He should be much better than he is. Which is why I'm not a sports medicine doctor working for a team. At one time, that really attracted me, but as I went through my training, I realized that I would end up clashing with a coaching staff who was trying to get me to basically commit malpractice on a patient.
Thamk You maybe. lol, only cause your pretty sure. Of course with that statement you also give reason as to why Vonte would want to seek his own treatment as team dr's interests rest with the team rather than the player.
What the heck happened to Todd Bowles? Remember after 11-5 and he managed to get a solid performance from a bunch of second rate vets. Rumors that he was getting near the top of the assistant HC candidate pool? Since that first year we have done nothing but regress in the secondary it seems, and where is the development of the younger guys?
The secondary wasn't that bad last year, the only real problem was they couldn't catch the damn ball. This season Todd Bowles didn't do much work with the secondary due to the lock out. Also even if everything that rdhstlr23 was true, Vontae Davis was the only cornerback in the last two season that actually made plays.
No its more like 90% WITH 10% LEANING THAT WAY. LOL sorry bout the caps but Imma getting fubar on some hellafied beer right now.
And I think that's the problem. The fan base wants plays made on defense so much, that we'll anoint a guy that makes a few plays because we just aren't used to seeing them. I don't consider Vontae a bust, but I don't think he's a guy you build your secondary around. He isn't a top tier CB and I don't know if he will ever be that guy. Sean Smith has the ability, I just wonder if he will figure it out. The defensive backfield is mired with mediocre players that, at times, can hang with real talent, but rarely ever make big plays.
Lol, I get a kick at the people who say S. Smith would make a better safety, when really I believe Vonte would, he is more of a hitter than S. Smith.
I do not think there is any cornerback you build your secondary around. I think that is a ridiculous statement. Vontae Davis is a fine player that improved every year until this season. Plus the fact that he actually made plays.
