I don't follow the Gators to know maybe they can chime in but I know he can get players and has an eye for offensive talent. I'm excited for the hire and can't wait!

Did Gator fans bail when Meyer left?

I don't think many Gator fans would agree with that. Terrible QB. Meh offensive line. Not very good WR's/TE's. They have Rainey and Demps, and that's about it, and even they are very overrated.

He can get players and more importantly those players fit his system. I fully expect that OSU will be a national contender again within four years.

If you go over his overall tenure in UF the man has had some extremely talented players.

Exactly, I'm a Gator fan and I would say that Meyer brought in many good players. I would also look at how successful he was at winning and recruiting players to Bowling Green and Utah. It would be extremely myopic to look at just who was there now and how they performed under a different coach's system and base my opinion on that. I don't see how anybody can see this hire as anything but a slam dunk for OSU.

    4 years?

The past 10 years this program has owned the big ten and has been a regular in BCS bowls, and after one down year you think it will take 4 years to be a "contender"?

I'm gonna call my shot....give Urban Meyer 4 years or less. Still have Lack of Institutional Control hanging over tOSUs program. Until that comes down, it's all a crap shoot IMO.

The problem is, many of those players weren't his players, but Ron Zook's players. His first national championship team, 20 of the 22 starters were Ron Zook recruits. Most Florida fans are hating his 2009 and 2010 recruiting classes, and aren't too fond of his 2008 class either. He knew what he was getting into. Health problems my ***. The decline started in 2010. Obviously Meyer is a good coach, but he isn't this incredible coach people try to make him out to be. To top it off he might be the biggest douche in college football as well.

Utah, already had plenty of talent thanks to Ron McBride. Can't speak for Bowling Green.

I'll tell you this much. Braxton Miller will be a friggin stud in Urban's offense. That kid was made for the spread to run scheme that Urban will bring. I'm not a Florida fan, but my alma mater is coached by an Urban Meyer protege in Dan Mullen, who is rumored to be at the top of the list for the Penn State job. It is interesting. The Big 10 seems to be the last bastion for the traditional style of play when it comes to offense....i.e....the typical two back, two wide, one tight set styles. Now with Urban at OSU, Mullen possibly at Penn State (not yet decided), and Brady Hoke using some spread at Michigan, even the last bastion is getting spread happy.

Hoke uses it out of necessity IMO, I don't think Shoelaces can grasp the WCO that Hoke likes. Braxton Miller is a beast of a man, we will see how he turns out and how long Meyer lasts

I heard Meyer told Brionte Dunn that he isn't going to ditch the power run game Ohio St likes to run. Wont know until Meyer brings on his staff. I know Mullen would be a great hire for PSU.

Whenever you switch systems it takes time to get the right talent there. And the last three years they were in the BCS bowls but not championship contenders. IMO Meyer will take them above where they've been the last three years back to being championship contenders.

    Speaking of his staff......
    Mullen: HC at MSU
    Strong: HC at UL
    Gonzalez: WR at LSU

Who is he going to hire?

    Disagree...

If Braxton develops as nicely as it looks like he will, Ohio State will have a chance to go undefeated his junior and senior years. Ohio State doesnt rebuild they reload. Fix the defense and it's even possible they go unbeaten next season.

The top teams in the SEC are shutting the spread down .The spread depends on great athletes getting the ball in space .Meyer had the surprise element going for him the first few years in the SEC .He had Tebow ,Harvin ,Hernandez at the skill positions .Once those great athletes were gone and the Alabamas and LSUs schemed to defend the spread , Meyers offense was exposed and fell apart.

I think that was one of the reasons for his retirement .He could not top what he did in the SEC .He wants to preserve his impressive win-loss ratio and win championships.

I would also be concerned about Meyers character .He is untruthful ,deceitful and a little spineless .I was glad to see him go from Florida .His health problems and claims that he wanted to spend more time with his family were all a sham IMO.I think it was an effort to get into position to be offered the OSU job.

Having said that I think he will do well at Ohio State at least for a few years. He is a good recruiter and the Buckeyes always get good athletes.
