The Lakers aren't getting Howard and Paul. They have no trading pieces on their team to get both. A 31 year old Pau Gasol and fillers for Chris Paul, let's get real here.

    They already have Bynum. :shifty:

I never said they are getting both. I said it a few pages back actually. Paul's knee scares me because in a couple of years he is going to be broken down. Would I trade for him if the price is right? Absolutely. I would also muddy the waters a bit to ensure that the Clippers/Warriors/Celtics overpay themselves. I think L.A.'s target is Howard moreso than anyone else and again, they will do so for the right price.

I think Howard will probably try to force himself to L.A. and honestly, no one can offer a better talented big man than L.A. in Bynum, so it COULD happen. I am not holding my breath though. The West appears to be weaker this year so L.A. might find themselves right back in the hunt. Especially on a shortened season. They don't NEED to deal, I guess is my point, so why overspend?

They could just wait til next year if he stays in Orlando, and get him for "free".

Lakers are way over the cap. Unless Howard wants to play for the mini-MLE, he won't go to L.A. as a free agent. if he wants to be a Laker, he will have to force the trade by telling Otis Smith where to trade him, much like Melo did. A sign and Trade gives Howard his money and destination, and gives Orlando some pieces to build back around in Bynum and I assume some younger Lakers players like Ebanks, Caracter (who I think the world of) and draft picks.

If he gets to FA, it will be interesting to see if Howard would entertain Boston. I have always heard rumors that he hates the C's, but a lot of cap room and pairing with Rondo under a flagship NBA team might be enticing.

Pat Riley is still a ****ing Pimp.

Shane Battier is signing with Miami, and apparently taking LESS money.

I think if Orlando would fire SVG, Howard MIGHT stay if the brought in a guy like CPIII too. It seems no players want to play for a coach that just yells ALL THE TIME.

Wouldn't it be funny if Howard played out his contract with the Magic this year then signed with Miami.

We don't have trading pieces to get Paul. We have awful, awful, awful big contracts......and Howard...oh yea and Brandon Bass. Otis Smith has been the worst GM in the league for a while now.

In a weird way, I like this signing more than the Big 3 signing. I know that sounds odd, but Battier is a natural leader and gritty defender. He does so many "off that stat line" things that make others successful that you can't help but like the guy.

He is older now and probably on the decline, but if you guys got him for less than the MLE to come off the bench and harrass teams and drop a couple of buckets in the drink...it is a great signing.

welcome to 10 more years of irrelevancy.

gotta love it, when your rival is so incompetent.

with only the Bulls and their 1 superstar...it looks like the Heat is going to pencil in a ton of finals appearances.

The Tyson play is in hopes of landing CP3...somehow. Not exactly sure how...but that has GOT to be the thinking.

And blowing your load on Tyson Chandler is unreal. Warriors are looking to do the same in hopes of landing Paul and getting him to sign long term. I don't think anyone realizes that the new CBA sort of hinders the whole sign and trade process considerably. It makes no sense for Howard, Deron and Paul to sign extensions right now. None whatsoever.

I do kind of hope this goes through though because the Knicks will have to amnesty Billups. I wouldn't mind kicking the tires of him if I am the Lakers and he gets through the new waiver wire type thing. Sure he is older but I could live with Billups running point for Kobe, Pau and Howard. :shifty:

only way to get CP3 is to trade Amare for him, or Melo. Talk about destroying your reputation as a franchise. guy commits longterm to you and you then trade him to siberia a year later and ruin his career.

The stupidity that is the Knicks front office is astonishing.

You can only use Amnesty ONCE.

So of course...these dumbasses pickup Billups option, when they could have freed up the cap space and even made a run back at him for the MLE at BEST....

then of course...they are thinking about AMNESTYING HIM.

So they will pay him 15 million dollars for...NOTHING.

    Mismanagement 101.

you know Boik..this has to be the final straw....we got very little room on the bandwagon..but maybe you can ride in a little cart behind the main wagon.

Three way deal that would land CP3 in LA and Pau Gasol in Houston in the works. Daryl Morey being the useful idiot. There is always THAT GUY.

    congratulations LA.

Hearing the same thing...and you know what comes next....

    D12 for Bynum/Odom

Wow. If Kupchak pulls this off...wow.

I am very torn about Pau leaving. I love the guy for everything that he has done in L.A. If the deal falls through and Pau remains a Laker, I won't be too upset.

    But...
    PG: Paul
    SG: Kobe
    SF: MWP
    PF: Whoever
    C: Howard

It makes me man parts tingle....

I would love to bring Emeka to L.A. on top of Paul, but I don't think that that is going to happen. I assume Hedu Turkoglu will come over with Howard and Odom heads to Orlando?

Last report is that the Knicks are possibly putting a deal together to trade Amare for Paul. Uhm...? How does that make ANY sense? Paul and Melo together is a good tandem, but you aren't any closer to competing in the East by taking away STAT. I suppose if they land Chandler it makes a little bit of sense but still...

This Paul trade is blowing up everywhere right now...which probably means, as per usual, the Lakers won't land him since the leaked trades are usually DOA. Stupid NBA/Winter meetings I got work to do today...

Shannon Brown to the Suns. Good move for him.

Hmmm. My lakers site keeps crashing but it appears that the rumored deal now has Pau/Odom headed out with Chris Paul coming back. Conflicting reprts on if Houston is involved or not. Lakers fans are going nuts on both sides of the fence for this deal.

I like it if West (resigned, of course) or Okafor comes back with Paul. I am not a big fan is it is just Paul while giving up 2/3rds of your front line.

Unless this leads to Howard coming in for Bynum and parts...this may have been too much for Paul.

  23. Samphin

Looks like only Paul is ocming back to the LAL.

Kupchak better have a plan for Howard or else this makes close to zero sense in sending both Odom and Pau out.

As it stands right now, the Lakers starting lineup looks like Paul PG, Kobe SG, Artest SF, ??? PF, Bynum C. Color me mildly unimpressed.

Something else has to be coming. No way the Lakers expose themselves like this as a stand alone move. Either we are getting someone back along with Paul, or a secondary trade is coming. The only reason to blow up the front court is for Howard AND Paul...not one or the other. As of right now, we have no PF. I suppose they will move Artest there and put Matt Barnes at SF? I honestly haven't a clue.

If this trade is true (and it sbeing reported everywhere now) then something else has to go down.

I agree I just hope it does. I really dont feel Kupchak would make the moves, unless he felt confident that a secondary trade, invlving Howard would follow. I dont think you can justify breaking up the team like that without adding a second major player via trade, because whats being reported appears that it will just be CP alone in the deal. The thought of Barnes as the starting SF going forward make me a little ill to say the least.

It has to happen. Remember, Bynum is suspended the first five games of the season, which means they literally have no one in the front court as of right now. No way this is the last move.

Not a good trade for the Lakers at all if they can't get Howard. All they would have in the paint is a center who will be lucky to play 50 games, and can only go for 30 minutes or so a night. They had terrible depth there already. Once Kobe breaks down and retires in a couple years, Chris Paul will be in no better position in LA than he is now in New Orleans.

This is my thought too. I am surprised that L.A. didn't get any type of insurance coming back in the form of Okafor, but Kupchak has been a stellar GM the past few years with regards to making trades, so I will assume he has the other end of this ready, already.

Wishful thinking on a couple of fronts. Everyone knows the strength of the Lakers WAS their frontline. Bynum at the 5 with Pau able to transition over and spell him when need be was a wonderful luxury and gave them massive depth up front. Especially when you had Lamar coming off the bench to play the 3, 4 or 5 in a pinch. They have veyr little depth now, this is true, but to say they were thing prior to this trade is folly.

I fully expect the other shoe to drop (and somewhat soon) with Howard coming to L.A. with Bynum and a few other parts headed back in return. It still leaves L.A. light on the front court and the bench will have to be addressed, but much like the Heat, I have a feeling that a few people won't mind signing up to play alongside Howard, Kobe and Paul.

The fear for me is Paul at this point. The knee scares me and he can and will opt out after this year. Which means, there is a very real chance that he is a rental. I assume L.A. is banking on him re-upping with them, but if he doesn't, Kupchak will have gotten himself fired.
