How come Cam Wake hasn't been signed to an extension?, Jakes contract isn't up until 2013, but maybe we could get a better cap situation with a new contract, we just gonna let solai test the market? Anyone have any theories, Ross keepin a tight ship until after the season?
I think Ross has pretty much put a freeze on things. He pretty much nixed the whole Orton thing. Ireland will be retained at least til the end of the draft. But will have very little say in free agency if the new head coach/Ross decides Ireland is an inferior GM and eventually hand him his walking papers.
Hopefully it means Ross doesn't want anything to stand in the way of a new coach and GM. Signing players and tying up salary cap space might make the team less attractive to a future coach or GM.
Thats a pretty heavy indictment..no way can you strangle your staff this year unless you weren't sure about next year...
Well yeah it is, its why you don't essentially fire but then don't really fire your coach.....this entire season was one of those flimsy 'votes of confidence' dead men coaching get when everyone knows the owner wants someone else.
I have to agree with ffs72... If this FO spends Cap space on this years club, you are definitley restricting and handi capping the next FO staff... If you do that you might be, better yet you will be restricting your next HC and FO staff candidates...
Hard to let the front office do much when you're on the fence about them. With respect to Cam Wake, he's had a down year compared to last year and he's still under a minimal contract for next season. Why not let that ride until he holds out? He doesn't seem to be the type to do something like that, especially given where he's come from to make it to the NFL. And even then, you can franchise him after that contract expires. If I had to bet, unless a new GM comes in prior to the 2012 season, Cam Wake's replacement comes onto the Dolphins roster before Cam Wake ever sees a multi-year extension in Miami. As for Jake Long, I don't think he'd end up going anywhere. I doubt a hypothetical new front office would either. The only scenario I could see where Long leaves Miami, is if it's in some pipedream of a trade to Indianapolis for the right to take Andrew Luck. Has Paul Soliai really done enough to earn that extension? It's hard to say. I'd like to bring back both he and Kendall Langford, but I think it's going to be one or the other based on both of their demands prior to the lockout and prior to the start of the season. All things considered, I think you bring Langford back in that scenario only because he'll probably end up being the cheaper of the two to sign. That also depends on the type of defense being run in Miami next year. But, there's a few guys who could play 3-4 NT that will be out there in free agecny aside from big Paul, such as Pat Sims of Cincinnati, Aubrayo Franklin in New Orleans, Antonio Garay of San Diego, Sione Pouha from the Jets, and Kelly Gregg from the Chiefs.
i wished he would have fired both Ireland and Sparano last year. we didnt accomplish anything this year so why not start over . this club keeps on doing the same ole things , same offense as used in the stone ages this club never changes we dont use 4 wr sets and mix it up . we only have one star on offense and we reufe to bring in any more help . I think we have a good defense but man the offense is so boring .
Yeah, I think that's exactly it...he's coppering his bet on this regime. If he cans Sparano, then the new regime can decide which guys they want to keep and which not, or which don't fit the particular scheme the new guy brings in. If he stays with Sparano...there's still time to extend guys or whatever...
Now, seriously, didn't that happen last January ?? He just forgot to tell Jeff and Tony to pack up their offices...
Happens all the time. Ross probably put the word out to freeze any new moves and or extensions to allow a full evlauation of coaches and staff. Ross already has made his mind up on Sparano and he will be let go. It will be nice and clean and a new coaching staff and front office will evaluate and have full control of their players going into next season. This leads me to believe that Ross already has someone setup. IE Cowher and those rumors from earlier this year will come back rather soon. I expect Ross to move really quick this time and I expect within a month of the seasons end we have a new staff in place already evaluating talent and the draft.
There is no way, regardless of what Cowher says, that Ross is not communicating with Cowher, directly or indirectly. None.
