Unsubstantiated Rumor: Marino in Talks to Take Over the Dolphins Front Office

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by CaribPhin, Dec 11, 2011.

I don't know how reliable a source this site is, and take it with a grain of salt.

    http://www.dolphinstalk.com/2011/12/marino-in-talks-to-take-over-dolphins.html

They go on to link Cowher with Marino. It's somewhat interesting if you remember that earlier this season, it was reported that Dan was playing intermediary between the Dolphins and Cowher and he had all but assured that Cowher would become Head Coach. A report that was later denied by Cowher though.

Any thoughts on this moving forward? Listening to him when he has to call our losses in highlights, he always does seem disappointed.

EDIT: Could a mod change the title to reflect the rumor status of this thread?

Not a chance in hell this is true. When Marino was hired by Huizenga years ago, the GM reported to him on football matters. If anything, he quit because he knew he wasn't qualified.

One can only hope. We need someone in this organization who has a clue about the importance of the QB position.

I would rather not hire Marino just because he was a great QB.

Hire Ray Lucas instead. Now that would get people talking!

The one good thing about it, he'll focus the building process on getting a high powered offense. Would be nice for a change, considering we haven't had it since he left.

The BS is strong with this one.

There’s no way Marino would duck out of a similar job a few years ago and then leave a job he loves to come back and try again. No way.

I loved Marino as the QB of the Dolphins. I enjoy seeing him on seeing him on the CBS pregame show. I am not that thrilled with the possibility of him taking over a role with the Dolphins which would give him the power to hire the next HC and GM. I just don't know if Marino has the skills needed to run a football team from the front office. I just think that there has to be more experienced individuals in the NFL who can be entrusted with the future of the Dolphins. A move like this by Ross may be popular with a segment of the Dolphin fans, but it may not be what is in the best interest of the Dolphins over the long term.

Marino has no experience in the operations of a football team. None. It would be the same as hiring an ace fighter pilot to run an airport.

I can't see it happening though he's just as qualified to take the job as Elway is in Denver.

I was first looking for a post that expressed my thoughts before opening my yapper, and I found one.

This definitely should not be a case of horsey see horsey do. I'd trust Marino on diaper duty and that's about it.

This article is pretty funny it even says Peyton Manning will be a free agent in March, odd because Peyton signed a new contract last year and would still be under contract in March.I highly doubt Dan would take this job and I do not see it happening. It makes more sense to hire Don Shula in that position.

I'm not sure I buy it either, but does anyone who watched the pre-game show last week remember them making a (veiled?) joke about Dan overseeing the team next year?

This comes from last weekends interview with Peyton Manning, at the end he told Marino the Dolphins would be smart to hire him as President, Marino joked that Manning just wanted his job on the pre-game show.

Actually that is not true. Elway was owner of an arena football team for a few years. This helped him to learn about the business side of football. He was much more qualified to take over the football operations in Denver than Marino would be in Miami. I think some people are just enamored with the thought of Marino being back with the Dolphins and they don't care if him running the organization and hiring the next HC and GM is really what is in the best interest of the Dolphins for the future.

Hopefully Marino would realize that he is not up to taking on this responsibility and he will decide to remain in the broadcast studio, where he really belongs.

Go take a look at Don's last 10 drafts and then tell me if you still fee this way.

Ireland has had MUCH better drafts than Shula. Shula had a generational quarterback.

On topic: If MikeO wrote this then it is first rate rubbish.

Manning's contract requires the Colts to give him twenty six million dollars in March or release him. So if the Colts plan on drafting Luck, as seems the case. It is entirely possible that the Colts decide to not pay Manning the 26 million dollars and just let him go as a free agent. This might have seemed ridiculous before this season, but the Colts are in a rebuilding mode for the next few years and I am sure they would rather rebuild around Luck and not keep Manning around and pay him the millions he would be owed, if they decided to keep him.

I think what is more likely is that the Colts will try to trade Manning before the March deadline and attempt to get at least one first round draft pick for him. Because the Colts are in a bind with the Manning contract, and with Manning coming off a year which he was out injured for the entire season, a team which wants to trade for him just might be able to pick him up for far less draft picks then they would have thought possible, prior to this season.

I've know Mike O for a long time. Once a snake, always a snake and trust me on this one, he has no inside info.

He comes from as far back as the old AOL boards. He once sent me a pm on finheaven which basically asked me to work for his website as a camp reporter. All for a single Jersey and to top it off, my camp reports, which were on almost every single message board, would be the sole right of his site. lol
