That great idea originated with Fishy Pete as I recall.

I assume he meant that as a "take it with a grain of salt" kind of thing or "it's just complete BS" type of thing because it came from such a f'n clown like Mike O. ...Well, I hope that's what he meant.

This story is a figment of some overactive bloggers imagination .Most of us who were members of the old site know who he is.Enough said.

Even if it were true I think that the Broncos Elway example is an unproven way to run things.Marino was a good QB but he is not qualified to make the tough decisions that are out of his sphere of his knowledge and capabilities IMO.

I remind you he wanted Jim Fassel to be the Dolphin HC at one time.:wink2:

This isn't really the first time that I've heard about this to be honest. Certain people have been hinting at it as a possibility for a while now. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I could easily this being considered by Ross. It ties in the history of the franchise and provides a beloved face for the fans and media. However, I don't really see Dan as all that qualified. He has no FO experience. And even his QB evaluation skills are horrid. You rarely see him do any actual QB analysis, b/c near as I can tell it amounts to "can he throw it?" He is the classic case of the great QB that relied on instincts and great ability so he can't teach or even identify "it" in others.

Is there a role that he could be happy with, that doesn't affect personnel decisions.? I don't see it.

My guess is that he's happy where he is now. I think that if he came back it would be b/c he was trying to help resurrect a franchise he loves. I just don't think it would be the best move for him.

Alright Rafs, let me pose you this scenario..If Marino comes to Ross and says I want a hand in rebuilding this franchise with people who really care, and will not quit, AND, I'am gonna hand you Bill Cowher on a silver platter, what kind of title can we give Dan, and would you take the deal and risk?

The title is irrelevant. It's the duties that matter. I think the best title and role would be as a consultant so he can continue with his TV gig. As for the deal, I think I would pass. I'm not as high on Cowher as many others are. I don't see the great motivation to return and I'm not sure how much credit he deserves and how much credit the Pitt system deserves.

How old are Dan's kids these days? I could of sworn the reason he didn't do it back then was because he didn't realize how many hours he would have to put in everyday and wanted to spend more time with his family.

    the poor house
he knows more about running a office then any of us do. besides you all are forgetting one small problem that forced Marino to jump ship and that was that he would be be glued to Wanny, Speilman , Feidler so he saw that that situation was a lose -lose situation.

I would trust Marino over Ireland anyday.

if Elway can run the Broncos what makes yoou guys think Marino cant help us iin the front office if he is put into a different situation ?

I would wager you guys that if Cowher and Marino teamed up with another man to be the gm that we will succees.

you guys , we cant just overlook that we have just as much a chance to land a great coach and gm as anyone else it is all of a matter of selling miami as a place to be.

So do you figure all Hall of Fame QBs can run an NFL Front Office, or just the ones drafted in 1983?

His Zach to SS idea notwithstanding, I would consider Fishy Pete a veritable football genius compared to MikeO. That idea was really the only wild one I can remember from Pete. MikeO drove me insane in nearly every post he ever made.
