The Jets aren't going to the Super Bowl but if they did, I'd go buy a Packers hat and hope the Pack put a mid 80's-mid 90's style *** kicking on the Jets.

No, that's not even close to what I said and it's driving me crazy to see people continuing to suggest it. And especially to see you put in quotes something that's not even close to what I said. I never compared the 2 events PERIOD. I said they are both 2 things that happened before I was born. They are both 2 things that I'm pleased with the outcome even though they happened before I was alive. Where in anything I wrote did I compare the 72 perfect season to WWII? I didn't. One person takes what I said way out context and the rest of you just ride his coat tails.

Cannot in any shape or form root for the jets. There is no consolation for them winning a super bowl, None.

To be honest being the only undefeated team doesn't really do much for me. The Dolphins were the first, and nobody can take that away.

Wow... wrong forum is an understatement.

I tend to think it was more than "pride" that made the Nazi's arseholes... but that's a discussion for the PoFo... as well as your reference to the Iraq war.

Problem is, the only thing that matters with the Dolphins anymore is where they are drafting. Only natural for us to start discussing the success and failures of other teams now that we have no shot at a post season.

    Best...post...ever.

I'm sure more than a few people are sick of WWII movies and war stories, self included...but I still respect what they did. I'm with you. I'd love for the Dolphins' perfect season to stand.

But if it came to the Super Bowl with the Jets, I'm with the original poster, I'd probably cheer for the Packers. Respect for the undefeated season is one thing, rooting for the Jets to win the Super Bowl is another.

I agree with the last part too. I think since I've been raging against those having negative opinions of the 1972 season, people assume I'd cheer for the Jets if it came down to them and Green Bay in the Superbowl with perfect season on the line. I'd never be able to do it. Maybe...just maybe...I could find myself able to cheer for the Patriots but only because Belichick and Brady have already won 3 so what's 1 more of it preserves the perfect season. But seeing Rex Ryan hoist the trophy? The thought sickens me, as the thread title suggests.

I think the hatred toward the 1972 perfect team is more jealousy than anything else. It's generational. There's a generation of Dol-Fans that haven't seen us win anything and are jealous of the generation that got ot live through when the Dolphins actually did win titles and were one of the most awesome teams of the decade. It's like being jealous of Patriots fans. The Patriots team was nothing short of awesome for a whole decade. It must have been a blast to have been a Patriots fan during that time.

But the Dolphins have sucked for close on a decade now, there's a little bit of cross-generational jealousy IMO. Younger generation fans don't want to hear about the old teams that did so well. It's just salt in the wound that they've never cheered for a team that did anything of note.

Yeah young punks that think they deserve something just because they're a fan! Spoiled *** brats that have the nerve to try and blame the past on whats happening NOW. And dissing them while you blame them for some curse. We're cursed alright but its because we inherited a bunch of whiney, punk *** fans thru the last 10-15 seasons.

Everyone of those players would knock the snot out of you if you called them that and you know it.

Newsflash. This is a Dolphins forum with Dolphin fans of all ages. When you disparage the players and coach of one of the greatest Dolphin teams that accomplished more than any other Dolphin team, expect some folks to be bothered. And I don't think he's really exaggerating what you said. "Crazy old geezers?" I'd be offended too.

Caring more about the current team than past teams is fine and completely understandable. But dragging the names of past Dolphin greats through the mud on a Dolphins message board for no good reason is pretty bad form, in my humble opinion.

You're the one who needs to settle down and you need to learn some ****ing respect!!

I am not their age but I'm no spring chicken and when you use the term old geezers, it shows you have no respect for elders and the ones you called that name could beat you into showing some respect! Its not the first time you've tried to diss the past either...

Those who don't care about the undefeated season only feel that way because those games didn't happen in front of them. Believe me when I say that when it comes to balance, toughness, smarts, persistence, depth and execution, nothing remotely like that season has ever happened again. Even if another team goes undefeated, they won't do it with the same combination of factors.

I don't know if there are complete videos of all the games, but if there are, we could all learn a lot about football from watching the entire season.

I remember everyone in the stadium, especially the opposing team, knowing what play was coming and the Dolphins running it successfully anyway.

I remember Kuechenberg getting the marrow drilled out of his forearm bone, having had a titanium rod inserted, playing guard with a cast on it, and beating the cast to powder by pounding Carl Eller in the earhole with it thoughout the game.

Whoever joins them in Perfectville will do it some other way. No way will it lessen the achievement.

As far as the past causing the present, bulldust. Different time, different players, different rules, different approach to the game. The fact is that we have done things differently. The Marino years, and Shula's approach to the game, was completely different in the 80's from his approach in the early 70's. No one is imitating the Perfect Team.

Saying you don't care about something isn't the same as disparaging it. I have nothing but respect for the '72 team, but I couldn't care less if that record gets broken. It will eventually anyway, and my lord are the Packers fun to watch. I don't see why that has to equal disparaging the '72 team?

Go back and read the post in question. It absolutely disparaged the '72 team. It even insinuated they were responsible for some kind of curse. :pity:

Young fans aren't cursing this team anymore than the '72 Dolphins are. What's cursing this team is incompetence at addressing the QB position. But now we're way off topic.

I get SICK of hearing fans that piss on our franchise's history.
Negative towards things that everyone should be proud of.... It's flat out absurd.
Seriously..... if you have some sort of sick guilt or averse reaction to celebrating an organizations successful history there is something wrong.

Also if you think we are "cursed" because we went undefeated at one time you would have been better suited living in Salem Mass in the 1600's.

I realize at some point someone will go undefeated and if it's the Packers I'd be content as they are a class organization.
That said, I am extremely proud of the undefeated accomplishment of this franchise achieved and that it has stood for almost 40 years.
I'm proud of it because I'm a Dolphins fan.

    On another note....

If it came down to rooting for the Packers to complete an undefeated championship season or the Jets......

I pick the Pack to match our undefeated season without question.
Only time I would EVER root for the Jets is if they were playing a team we needed to lose for us to get into the playoffs.... and I'd still feel dirty.
