Did anyone get to see how Jerry played today? I think it's really important to see what we have with Jerry. Can he play RG or RT for us next yr? If he can fill either spot than we only need to find another starter for the o-line and some much needed depth.
I would not trust him as far as I can throw him, Donald Thomas 2.0. The new coach would be a sucker to rely on him.
John Jerry, after a bad rookie season and bad off-season has played pretty well this year when he's been asked. He was quite good at LT, no less today. He didn't face great opposition, but he got on his man quickly and didn't give up much after that. If he can play like that at RT, we're in good shape.
He played pretty well. Had a bad series with 2 penalties two plays in row. But he was steady and not at all the swinging Garner was last week. Running game was good as well. Buffalo isn't a good defense but it was a good start for a non-LT.
the few times i watched him this year he played well. between him and chris clemons i dont have any idea what happened. there has to be something behind the scenes that occured that we arent aware of.
He's more of a natural tackle though as far as how he's built. Tackles tend to simply overwhelm ends with strength which is what he does well. I like seeing Jerry develop and if he can continue to do so like a Damien Woody at right tackle that would go a long way towards fixing the offensive line. On the inside I hope to get a second look at Garner as he's played very well in the past at LG.
The line played well today, but Buffalo has no pass rush, so I wouldn't read to much into that. Now Buffalo does stop the run well, so our running performance is more promising.
Would really love to see Miami make a run at Ben Grubbs of the Ravens in free agency to fill that LG spot. They didn't try for Marshal Yanda; I'd hope they try for Ben Grubbs.
He’s played every position on the line, except center. He’s even lined up at fullback on a few occasions. Still, the jack-of-all trades in an unfamiliar position as the Dolphins await the status of left tackle Jake Long. Jerry has filled in for long during practice this week, but said it’s the first time he’s manned the spot.“I’ve never played it, but I’ll do whatever coach wants me to do,” he said. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...sweblog+(Miami+Dolphins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)
Certainly not a bad performance for a guy with 5 days experience at that difficult position. He's beginning looking like a guy we can count on next season. The right tackle might be on the roster. Certainly played well against Oakland's power guys at guard. We haven't seen him against speed guys inside or out, but he's looking much improved.
Long-Icognito-Pouncy-Garner-Jerry????? We really need to get the right side of the o-line fixed for next yr. How is Benn Grubbs rated as a G? Any other options for 2012 in FA?
I found this... 2012 NFL Free Agent Offensive Linemen By: Roshan Bhagat Demetrius Bell (BUF) - OT - Bell is another under-the-radar player capable of protecting the blindside and is a vital piece to the Bills' offense with an expiring contract. Though he's an above average pass protector, he's an even better run blocker for the left side. The Bills have some work to be done to keep all of the pieces together, which could allow Bell to slip through the cracks into free agency. Carl Nicks (NO) - OG - Nicks is one of the premier guards in the league and after watching Jahri Evans strike a rich deal not too long ago, the Saints may be hard pressed to offer a second guard that type of money, though Nicks arguably had a better season a year ago. If Nicks doesn't put a hometown discount on the table, there's a good chance the market shows him more love than the Saints can afford to show him. Ben Grubbs (BAL) - OG - Grubbs has been one of the top offensive linemen on one of the better units in the league over the past few years. Despite having some moving pieces next to him at left tackle, Grubbs has continued to excel. The team's run game is at its best with him blocking on the move. With some instability along the offensive line over the past few years, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Ravens address Grubbs' contract immediately. Chris Myers (HOU) - OC - Myers has found himself in one of the best possible situations in the league with the Texans. After years of searching, the Texans have been able to replicate some of the success Head Coach Gary Kubiak had in Denver. Meyers is an outstanding system fit and will probably stay in Houston. Jeff Saturday (IND) - OC - Though the Colts have bigger priorities, Saturday has been a Colt for a long time. With his career on winding down, he may want to stay put for a shot at another ring with Manning likely to return at full health next year. Nick Hardwick (SD) - OC - Hardwick isn't nearly at his Pro Bowl level from several years back, but he's a solid center with good size, strength, and football IQ. The Chargers have some other contracts to address before they get to Hardwick, which would allow a team desperate in the middle to steal him from San Diego while searching for his Pro Bowl years yet again. Scott Wells (GB) - OC - Like Meyers, Wells is an ideal system fit. The Packers have sought to get bigger and stronger at the position over the Thompson's tenure, but there's no doubt that Wells has consistently outperformed all others. He's a heady center with no flash that could play well into his 30s. Though the Packers won't offer a lucrative deal, he's also unlikely to find that elsewhere as an undersized center.
I will read into the fact that the Dolphins line isn't so bad that they allow the crappy pass rush of the Bills a pass rush.
I was at the game and REALLY worried about this when I read on Twitter that Jake was out. That said, Jerry played very well, nothing really got through him. Granted, Buffalo has virtually no pass rush, so nobody will be mistaking Jerry for Long anytime soon, but perhaps there is a future at RT for him going forward. At least, it's worth a shot. Jerry has earned the right to at least have a shot now, after stinking up the place for the first year-and-a-half of his career.
Considering that the team does almost everything off of PA and short passing, put Jerry at RT to blow defensive ends off the line isn't the worst idea. Garner inside seems to be a capable guard so if you have some depth you have a heck of a run blocking line. Daniel Thomas, Reggie Bush, and another back could form a top running game. LT- Long LG- Incognito C- Pouncey RG- Garner RT- Jerry Will probably blow some teams off the line and most importantly not cost precious resources.
It seems like Jerry is getting a lot of positive reviews from the media for his performance. Our 2010 draft might actually turn out to be decent with Odrick, Misi & Jerry (if he turns into a solid starter).
I've kept a close eye on Jerry the last couple of games. This kid should be playing somewhere on the right side next yr. His performance hasn't been great but he's solid.
His performance vs. the Patriots and Jets dropped off from what it was with the Bills. There are worse starters than what Jerry puts in week in and out, but it's nothing to aspire to. Given that he hasn't really faced any quality pass rushers, I'd be concerned with him starting at RT. He's done well enough at Guard when he's filled in there, and I'd tend to think he would work.
