Its no coincidence he actually looked good at the beginning of the season. I'm not saying he was the answer, but part of me wonders what he would have done in a different situation with actual coaches. With all the contending teams that are now pretty much screwed due their starting QB's hurt, and their backups worthless, he won't be unemployed long. I hope he proves us wrong down the road.
I would love to resign him personally. If we went into the season with Matt Moore, Chad Henne, and one of the top 3 rookie QB's I would be ecstatic. I really think Henne could pan out eventually, if you rewatch the New England Patriots game there is no way you come away any way but impressed with him. He worked hard this offseason too and it showed in his better mobility, etc. That being said, I doubt we resign him. He will probably go to Houston or San Fran and make us look stupid in a few years.
Lee was a quarterback coach genius and Henning was a competent offense coordinator before they played with Henne.
Blame goes wherever you like, fact is Henne's history. Zero clutch factor which is needed to win close games against above average teams. How many 4th quarter INT's did he throw?
Is he done in MIA Pads??? the majority of the fans think so, as for the current FO and ownership? I don't think they believe he is done... One thing for sure, he would make a nice backup, but that would be Moore's place next year... I am undecided, and sure would have been nice to fully judge him for this full season...
Really not sure how to answer this. You have some options that seem to be from a fan perspective of what we would do if GM, and then you have the actual option that we're all stuck with no matter what we think "wait to see what new coach does". My opinion, Chad Henne is done here. Matt Moore has proven to be the better of the 2 and keeping them both as back ups does not make sense. Chad Henne is good enough to go be a backup somewhere else. Agree with others that it would have been nice to see what he could have done with a full season in the new offense. My guess is his TD/INT ratio which has always been a problem for him would have continued to be at 1 or just under.
Before Henne got hurt this season his stat line was 4 TD's and 4 Int's (passing wise). So why are people still trying to blame Henning and Lee for Henne's play? EDIT: Thank god that this is all going to be over in the next 1 - 2 years. We are talking about a guy who is a deadman walking here in MIA. I wish it would have worked out for Henne here, and I wish him the best of luck where ever he ends up after leaving the Dolphins.
I believe Henne should be let go traded whatever move him. It would be best for both sides. As for Moore he has earned the right to compete for starter / backup next year in my eyes. I still say we draft or acquire a franchise QB and let Moore and the rookie battle for starter status..
I wanted the guy to succeed as much as anyone else. But even I saw the low ceiling early and somewhere in the record is me saying so after the Jets game in 2009. There was just something off about him. His vision has always been limited. It is unfortunate and he is partially responsible for sinking his head coach, imo. I don't think he should be retained in any capacity
He actually has an extremely high ceiling as a passer. Perhaps one of the top ceilings of a QB to come out in the past couple of years, but his problem is that he can't put it all together with some stupid stupid bonehead mistakes to go with a cohesive team effort ( Defense/Special Teams/Offense). I don't think he should be retained, this franchise isn't for him. I can see him going to the Jets with their strong defense and running game and completely dominating though where he can use that strong arm to their advantage.
I've defended Henne for years, but the writing is on the wall..I have no desire to see Henne in a Dolphins uniform next year. He will be a distraction as a backup and the sample size is large enough to know that Henne isn't a clutch QB... It's painful to admit it, but that over-rides everything else. Going from looking like an All-Pro QB to a bonehead when games are on the line is not what we need.. Yes, perhaps he can suceed as Jet with a strong D and the ability to play with a lead, but not here.. Not now at least.
Sad to say it BR, but the final "drive' vs the Browns this yr was pretty much what we've seen fro Henne, long return out to the 45 or so, needed 20 yds, got 4 plays for no gain.
Padre, if I remember that correctly, I think it was more like 12 yards or so we needed for a reasonable FG attempt, but I could be wrong. The point you make is a good one though. Franchise QBs put the team in a position to win in that situation. In 2009, Henne did just that in more than one game. Not sure what happened to him in 2010, but he just couldn't perform when the game was on the line.
I do not recall the exact situation, just Gates broke a long return and we did not need much to win the gm, and we were not even close to picking up the yds needed. I can recall in 2010, 2nd Bills gm(that was the one with the wrong personnel), Browns gm(int off of a tip set up 22 yd GW FG), Stealers gm(we had the ball with over 2 minutes to go and turned the ball over on downs), we had chances to win them and Henne just did squat. Same stuff in the Browns game in 2011.
I would think the bigger question is whether Henne will get a significant opportunity in the league. He isn't extremely accurate, and he isn't extremely mobile. I don't see how he's going to make plays down the field in this league. His only redeemable attribute is his arm strength, but he's average at best in almost every other category. I don't think thats a good combination for an NFL QB.
Which is really quite true, the dark cloud on MMoore's horizon is his accuracy is slipping over the last 4 gms. If Moore were a #1 draft pick, and playing this well, there would be thread after thread of adoration. I hope he has a 4 Td gm vs NE, that would be fun even if we lost.
If Jones/RG3/Barkley stay in school, that pretty much becomes our reaility Aqua. Perhaps fate is forcing us into making the correct choice ala Romo in Dallas.
I think he is likely done here, but how many times have we dumped players only to have them blossom elsewhere. I say wait and see what our new coach is inclined to do.
First time for everything though. It does happen and to other teams too, but I'm not sure it will hurt the team to hold off and see what our new coach wants to do.
I voted to bring him back as a backup, but after reading some comments I think that might cause some static in the lockerroom and every time Moore has a bad game the fans will call for Henne. You just don't want that situation. Henne deserves a fresh start somewhere else. My orange Henne jersey
Gotta go with the new skipper does RevR, I'd like to have a clean slate for a new staff when it comes to decision making.
I guess I don't get why you're rooting for him specifically to be the team's QB. Shouldn't we all just hope that ANY QB can prove to be a franchise quarterback for this team? I understand becoming of a fan of a player already on the roster but half the senseless QB debates on this board stem from fans becoming emotionally attached to a single player to a point where any other QB option can go to hell. Personally I'm hoping that either Matt Moore, the guy we draft, the 3rd stringer, the water boy, or ****ing anyone else! can become a franchise QB for this team. I like Matt Moore and what he's done for us this season, but I'm not going to say piss off to drafting a QB just because I'm a fan of the incumbent QB.
MB, let me expound on that a bit: A "franchise qb" comes about only 1 way, over time, this is the thing imo some are missing, such a Qb is a meeting of opportunity meeting talent meeting fit, then games are won, then the Qb's game grows and then they win games (seemingly) on their own.\ For that there are no shortcuts, if there is one damnable quality about Chad Henne's time in Miami it is the Franchise wasted 3 yrs on him hoping he would develop. He just never did. As for MMoore, I see a Pennington Trap with him, a fine Qb, occasionally Elite Qb, but not quite what you need to make the next step upwards, that is yrs down the road of course, assuming he has the opportunity, but that is my sense of him.
