He's probably loving it. Now he can convince Ross to take DeCastro and "keep their powder dry" for next year.

Forget el Jeffe. This guys new name is Svengalireland

USC insiders are saying that he is coming back to USC. Lots of "happy" people at USC right now.

Seems odd that he would hold a press conference to simply stay though.

Bowl eligible next year and Barkley wants to play in a bowl game.

Kalil left though and those two are very close...so who knows...?

How dare you say that!! We need to LOSE LOSE LOSE LOSE LOSE for LUCK!! Forget beating our bitter rival to knock them out of the playoffs- We need a better draft pick so when we propose trading our entire 2012 and 2013 draft for Luck we have a better chance :D

I think he comes out and goes Pro.

I dont really get the need to hold a press conference if he is in fact going to stay at USC. Its just me, but it seems like something an agent would do...

66% to 34% that Barkley should go into the draft as opposed to staying with over 19,000 votes casted already on Sportsnation on ESPN.....

Andddddddddddddddddddddddd he is going to stay lol....

Dude...I dont care if its Paul Blake (aka Scott Bakula) whos leads the Phins to a Super Bowl win....I just want SOMEONE to do it. I am not becoming emotionally invested in a QB until they stake their claim as our franchise QB....

Interesting that some people seem to want to use this opportunity to rub it in to Suck For Luck'ers. If anything I'm inclined to look at the fact that the Colts might actually win 3 games and lose Andrew Luck, and ask all these people if they're happy that we have 5 meaningless wins and no shot at the best quarterback prospect to come out in 30 years. Was it worth it?

It's a big deal if he's going back to school. Everyone has been assuming he's coming out. Him deciding to stay is actually more press conference worthy than announcing he's coming out. If I were him I would not hold a press conference to announce I'm coming out. I would issue a statement. But if I were returning to school, I would hold a press conference.

We wont have 5 meaningless wins...we will have 7....and that last one will boot the Jets from the playoffs, so, that one will infact be quite meaningful.

And...god, arent we done the the SFL debate? On either side, at this point, who cares. Honestly, I think people care more about being right, or being the one who can say, "I told you so"...then just about anything else.

Yes, ten years from now as Andrew Luck leads the colts to a third Super Bowl title, we will feel no regret.

Only joy that we won 6 meaningless games during the 2011 season, one of which affected the 6th seed of the AFC Playoffs that year.

    Joy!!!

If anything you are ignoring reality with straw man arguments that aren't based on tangible outcomes or possibilities.

Professional teams and players don't intentionally lose to draft a player that they probably won't even play with once the franchise cleans house after an 1-15 or 2-14 season.

The Dolphins have been playing better and their record is more indicative of poor coaching and conditioning, then winning 5 "meaningless" games. They also barely lost 4 meaningless games that if won, would put them in playoff contention with 2 weeks to go.

What I find funny is the endless charade around being a fan and calling wins meaningless, progress meaningless and pride meaningless, in the unlikely event of drafting a QB prospect during a historically awful NFL season for the teams at the bottom of the heap. The Dolphins are a mediocre team that could have been a contender if they started the season with a QB that could actually make a few clutch throws or convert a few 3rd downs.

So we're beating NE as well, eh?

and even if we knocked the Jets out of the playoffs, so what? That's meaningful to them, not us. What, should we put up a banner that reads "Knocked Jets out of 6th Seed in AFC Playoffs 2011" like we won the SB.?

Should we give out rings to mark this glorious occasion?

Your argument holds no merit and is really a case of sour grapes.

It's like someone marring a fat, ugly slob and getting upset that they couldn't score a supermodel even though they are broke and ugly themselves. We had no chance at Luck and this endless parade of downplaying victories and improvement on this team in the hopes of being a truly awful and pitiful team is mind numbing. Get over it and look towards the future. We aren't getting Luck unless a miracle happens on draft day and if you can't deal with it, perhaps you should root for the Colts once they do draft him.

So why bother watching any of the games? Why bother being a fan of this team if beating our hated rivals and knocking them out of the playoffs is something worth mocking?

This one really takes the cake.

Yes, we're probably not getting Luck. I'm over it.

What I'm not over, and will never be over, is the players on this team (and plenty of its fans) celebrating a 5 or 6 win season like it's a grand accomplishment simply because we "didn't quit" following a putrid 0-7 start.

Everytime I hear Dansby talk about "swag" I want to wretch. Espescially considering the slob came into camp 25 punds overweight which directly contributed to the 0-7 start he hopes I forget.

So yeah, once we started 0-7, I would have rather gone 0-16 and get Luck than have what we have now. It's an easy choice

Beucause I care more about the dolphins winning the SB than I do whether or not the Jets make the playoffs one particular year. One is something I've been waiting to see my entire life, the other is something that is completely irrelevant to me.

Let the Jets win the SB, who cares? That doesn;t affect the dolphins one way or another

We all would LOVE to have the opportunity to draft luck with the #1 overall. However, I choose to see the reality of the situation rather than to hold on to a pipe dream that was predicated by a historically poor start, poor coaching, poor QB play, that gave us the false hope that we were as awful as the Colts.. Time proved that hope to be inccorect, and rather than dwell on the impossible, I would rather build upon our victories and progress as a team, then to be sour around an outcoome that had the same chance as me getting pissed off about not winning a $1 dollar lottery ticket

You have your own view of fandom. You think being a fan means rooting for your team regardless of the costs to the teams future. We understand that. That's fine and your right.

However, you seem to be simply refusing to even begin to understand the other side of it. Agree or don't, but some of us want to have a franchise QB so we have a shot at being relevant again. That doesn't make us less or more of a fan than anyone else. It just means we're willing to make sacrifices. Granted none of this has any bearing on the actual win/loss record.

It's not like anybody was rooting for losses at the start of the season. Had we started 5-0 I would have been excited as anybody. but we didn't.

And I refuse to get excited about a 5 win team. I'd rather have had the pick. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

For myself, I see both sides of this debate, however I think the "draft a Qb no matter what!!!" line of thinking ignores outcomes and situations.

Dropping a young Qb onto an offense with limited talent is not doing them any favors and will hurt their growth

The "Win every game!!!" line of thinking is ignoring a Machiavellian reality in favor of non strategic thinking ie emotions

This team blows out poor teams, gets crunched by good teams, point blank that is a well coached team which simply lacks physical talent, the best way to acquire physical talent cheaply is via the draft, the best prospects in the draft, stats say, are found at the earliest possible draft position.

Let's not win the battle and lose the war folks.

What sacrifices? We have no bearing on how the team plays outside of how much we are willing to spend or how much time we are willing to invest. This magical thinking is the thing that gets me. The Dolphins are mediocre and their record indicates that. NOTHING in the universe changes that fact, no amount of wishing, sacrifice or dream scenarios changes what has been proven on the field.

WE all want a franchise QB, but our record will prevent us from drafting Luck. Plain and simple. Doesn't mean I'm not willing to sacrifice for this team either, I still pay for my season tickets and spend an inordinate amount of time following the team.

Rooting for a loss is no different than rooting for a win. They can both be done with the same amount of joy, pain, pleasure, excitement, etc. Its why we love it when the Jets lose.

No one had any belief that what we rooted for would the affect outcome. It was however a way to make the season meaningful to a lot of us. We tried to turn the prospect of coming in last place into a win, and we were blasted for it and accused (even in this thread) of being lousy fans. Only argument I'm trying to make with you is that there are differing concepts of fandom and one approach is no shinier of a badge than the other. However one approach sets us up for the future and the other doesn't.
