Big Ben also has led his team to two Super Bowl wins and many victories against the quality teams in the NFL. Comparing Roethlisberger to Moore makes absolutely no sense at all. Roethlisberger is a proven Super bowl caliber QB and one of the top QB's in the NFL. Moore on the other hand hasn't led his team to any significant wins over a quality opponent and is still nothing more then a capable NFL backup QB. As far as Moore being young, he will turn 28 before the start of next season and this is his fifth year in the NFL. To me that does not equate to a young, inexperienced QB who just needs time to develop. He is what he is and I don't see him getting better in the future. His pocket awareness is terrible and while he makes some great throws, he also makes just as many terrible passes in every game. I just don't see a 28 year old QB who will be going into his sixth season in the NFL as the answer at the QB position for the Dolphins. To me he is just another Jay Fiedler type QB who can make plays on occasion but will never be the QB to lead this team to the playoffs. If your desire for the Dolphins is that they remain a bad to mediocre team over the next few years, Moore is the perfect QB for this desire.
This is funny, and will save an offseason of crap about "oh Matt Moore has not beaten a team with a winning record". Oakland won today, if SD loses, w/Broncos loss, they win the AFCW, we kicked their asses. I'm not saying MMoore is anything other then having a great and surprising season, but this stuff about "oh, he never beat a team with a winning record!" Is tiresome, he's got 12 fumbles, 6 lost, he'll never top Gus Frerotte's amazing 14 fumbles lost in 05, but they are not helpful. He sails passes he should hit on, he has a poor grasp of the pocket at times, he hands onto the ball to long. Those are legit problems with him, the "never beat a team with a winning record" stuff is simply...not true.
I am not saying Moore is the answer, but he's shown he's not just a backup in this league (unless there are less than 12 actual starters in the league). Also, there are plenty of QBs who have gotten better after they turned 28.
According to NFL.com Moore had 3 fumbles today bringing his total to 14 with 6 lost...so it looks like he will indeed break that 14 fumble mark He also was sacked 5 times today today giving him 35 in a partial season
Legit criticism, and one that I'm not sure has a remedy tbh, they aren't sack strips normally, he just loses the football.
When are we going to realize that as long as the likes of Jerry, Carey, Garner, Incognito and Colombo are starting for us, we will not be able to beat the first tier teams, regardless of who is at quarterback? I will be the first one to admit that we need a quarterback, but we also need offensive linemen, a tight end, a speed wide receiver, another pass rusher and two safeties. We have to do it one draft at a time, not trade a whole draft for a quarterback.
Well Aqua, is that what we are seeing down the field, or is that what Bline+Marshall are good at doing so MMoore just throws it up and let's thm go get it? His accuracy declining really bothers me...a lot, love his arm courage down the field, but there are some things I don't like.
Keep in mind the windows he was throwing the ball into Aqua, next wk vs NYJ should really tell the tale so to speak.
I am a total believer in Moore! I believe he is one of the top 5 backups in the NFL. Now if we just get a top 5 starter.
Really? It was all those quarterbacks, huh? I'll do the homework for you. Those teams all had....wait for it...ELITE defenses, defenses that mostly out-ranked higher than their offenses Super Bowl XLV Pittsburgh 25 vs Green Bay 31 Defense: Pitt: 1st GB: 2nd Offense: Pitt: 12th GB: 10th All of you guys like to talk about Aaron Rodgers, but Green Bay's defense was better than their offense! Super Bowl XLIV Indianapolis 17 vs New Orleans 31 Defense: Ind: 8th NO: 20th Offense: Ind: 7th NO: 1st This is one year I'll hand it to the offense and the quarterback...but New Orleans has been up and down since...with the same quarterback Super Bowl XLIII Pittsburgh 27 vs Arizona 23 Defense: Pitt: 1st Arz: 28th Offense: Pitt: 20th Arz: 4th Number one ranked defense versus the number 4 ranked offense. Didn't work out too well for Arizona, did it? Especially when your defense is ranked 28th in the league Super Bowl XLII New York Giants 17 vs New England 14 Defense: NYG: 17th NE: 4th Offense: NYG: 14th NE: 1st How did that top ranked offense end up in the end? The Greatest Choke in Sports History! Super Bowl XLI Indianapolis 29 vs Chicago 17 Defense: Ind: 23rd Chi: 3rd Offense: Ind: 3rd Chi: 2nd This is another one of those I'll give credit to the quarterback. Super Bowl XL Pittsburgh 21 vs Seattle 10 Defense: Pitt: 3rd Sea: 7th Offense: Pitt: 9th Sea: 1st The number one ranked offense against the number 3 ranked defense. Again, offense sells tickets, defense win championships Super Bowl XXXIX New England 24 vs Philadelphia 21 Defense: NE: 4th Phi: 2nd Offense: NE: 4th Phi: 8th Both teams were so evenly matched up on both sides of the ball, it's no surprise this was only a 3 point game. Super Bowl XXXVIII New England 32 vs Carolina 29 Defense: NE: 1st Car: 10th Offense: NE: 12th Car: 15th Brady Brady Brady...but hmmm, the Patriots had the number one ranked defense...guess they had nothing to do with the win? Super Bowl XXXVII Oakland 21 vs Tampa Bay 48 Defense: TB: 1st Oak: 6th Offense: TB: 18th Oak: 2nd Wow, with 48 points scored, Tampa Bay must;ve had the top ranked offense, huh? Oh wait...it was the defense that was ranked number 1. Super Bowl XXXVI New England 20 vs St Louis 17 Defense: NE: 6th STL: 7th Offense: NE: 6th STL: 1st St Louis's number one ranked offense....the Greatest Show on Turf...shut down by New England's defense. Of the last 10 Super Bowls, 16 of the 20 teams had defenses ranked in the top 10. Of the last 10 Super Bowls, 14 of the 20 teams had offenses ranked in the top 10. Of the last 10 Super Bowl winners, 7 teams's defenses ranked higher than their offenses (2 of NE's teams, offense and defense were equally ranked) Of the last 10 Super Bowl losers, 8 teams had an offense ranked in the top 10 or higher, 6 of them were ranked in the top 5. You guys can go off of emotion and the roller coaster endorphined emotion you feel seeing a high flying touchdown pass and talk about how great quarterbacks are and how vital quarterbacks are to winning a Super Bowl, but the facts are on my side. Offense sells tickets....DEFENSE wins championships.
I thought Moore held it down today against the Pats. My final descision will be made on him next week against the Jets. He needs to play well. New York will be a desperate team next week so I think Moore faces his biggest test of the year. If he can handle the pressure, make plays, and not turn the ball over I may think of him as a starter in the near future for us. If he wants to be the man in Miami next week is his final shot to do so. He's had a great audition and I think regardless he's the starter next season until he loses it. I will be a lot more comfortable with him if he can beat the Jets next week.
I have said it in the past, he does not seem to feel the pressure coming and holds onto the ball to long, and it happens often. He has been a pleasant surprise, but I want a better QB.
That's what I see also. He seems to lose track of that internal clock to get rid of the ball...times he should just throw it away...and totally loses track of the play clock. He makes some really amazing throws...but follows it up with the" he cant take that sack" "he can't make that throw" "he can't fumble the ball there" type plays. So frustrating
IDK, which to me means I'm content with leaving it up to the incoming Staff. I do think a proper evlaution of his game, without knowing the Oline assignments, is faulty. This is a catch-22, we had Henne who had no problem hitting the check down stuff, but was not as willing to wait on the deep stuff, we have Moore who is happy to take the deep stuff, but probably should look at more check down stuff. From what I've seen, once a Qb is content with the underneath stuff, it is difficult for them to suddenly take on the gunslinger mentality.
What does that have to do with anything other than you being a completely one dimensional fan? Did you even watch the game? Because I'm still a believer now after the game. Matt Moore had a good game with some mistakes like ANY other QB. I believe in Matt Moore now, not to be elite, but to be that QB we've been wanting for a while. Even if we draft a QB in round 1, and he doesn't pan out, then can I throw this crap in your face for wasting a draft pick? We have a QB that has progressed and surprised us, I'd be happy with us preparing next season with him at the helm. I'm not throwing a full draft for Andrew Luck, and I don't think we'll even get RGIII by the time we pick. Get that OLine and Secondary shored up and you watch what happens next season.
If we're being honest, Ben didn't lead the Steelers to 2 SB wins. The first one he was along for the ride, as he was simply......awful. The rest of the team won that game, with the help of one of the worst goal line calls by the refs in recent memory.
What will happen? Be out of play off contention before our first victory. I'm not even saying Moore can't play in this league...but like your original post, you are way premature and will end up eating it. Matt Moore didn't move us for a quarter and a half against a bad defense and that cost us in the end.
