This promises to be a really fun offseason:

-first HC/Staff hire since 2008, who knows what the new HC will want to do?
-High draft pick/draft slotting, we will pick in the Top 10, and in the late 30's early 40's in rd #2
-We have escaped 2012 mostly healthy, granted Jake has some issues but no Ronnie B with a rehab
-Free Agency PRIOR to the draft, unlike last season

For myself, I'm simply glad Ireland is looking at some talented FA's from the CFL as well.

    And finally:

-No months, and months and months of arguing about Chad Henne

    Let's enjoy it.

    1) First of all, if Ireland remains as the GM, I don't see the next HC being any better than Sparano.
    2) If Ireland is making the first pick, it will be another offensive lineman, and not a QB or elite offensive play maker.
    3) It is great that the team is mostly healthy, but so what? They have won five games this season and they are one of the worst teams in the NFL with most of their team healthy.
    4) Based on the record of Ireland in free agency, he will have more misses than good signings.

As long as it is Ireland making the selections in the draft and in free agency, the Dolphins will continue to be nothing but a bad to mediocre team in the NFL.

The only way this offseason will be great for me is, if I wake up and read that Ross finally fired Ireland. Hopefully this will happen before the draft and the NFL free agency signings begin.

I'm OK with keeping Ireland. And people here will still be arguing about Henne. Even if he plays in the NFL for another team next year.

Henne arguments will probably be limited to whether or not he should be re-signed as Matt Moore's backup. :shifty:

Well, I suspect there will be those who will ***** either way, which is fine, doesn't mean "join in".

I suspect with Parcells gone the iron fist on information coming out of Davie will loosen, also think a new HC will fit what Ireland does do really well, find guys who can contribute but don't cost a fortune.

Suspect that is over and done with Des, if we draft a Qb with a high pick, no more room for Henne, if we sign a vet, usually the HC will want their guy not the prior regimes' Qb.

Or draft Linemen, Defensive or Offensive.

    Td's are so overrated!

I do think it is funny that those who said "we couldn't hire Harbaughb/c Ireland was the GM"

Usually are the same ones who said "the fist pumper went for a FG"

49rs FG kicker just set the NFL record for most FG's in a single season with 40.

I don't have a problem with Henne and Moore battling it out for the backup spot behind Andrew Luck or Brandon Weeden.

And while I'm wildly fantasizing about this imaginary QB depth chart, I'd like Lacey Chabert and Daniela Tamayo to bring me my beer hat on a silver tray, thanks.

The last I checked, Parcells has been gone for over a year. I haven't noticed that information coming out from Davie has loosened at all. I do agree, Ireland is great at finding cheap players who can put on a uniform each week. The problem is that most of the players are not very good and that is why the Dolphins are 5-10 this season.

I don't want a cheapskate GM who finds player who can contribute to a bad football team. I want a GM who is an excellent evaluator of talent and can build a championship caliber football team. Perhaps you think a 19-28 record over the last three years is justification for Ross to keep Ireland around, but the majority of the fans I know strongly disagree with you.

I'd like to start the offseason by getting one of them.

agree Padre. reason to get excited for the offseason. We could do better than Ireland, but I disagree with the naysayers, we could also do much worse.

the one caveat, we may not spend months debating Henne, but I guarantee we will argue for/against Matt Moore. especially with the QB options in the draft drying up so quickly.

Coaching search will use most of the air OF, MMoore has a extremely long way to go to be the preseason favorite to win the #1 Qb job:

-Does new HC like his game?
-New Offensive Coordinator, do they like his game?
    -Trading period
    -Free Agency
    -Draft

Objectively, all MM has going for him is 1 yr left on his deal, and a decent season under his belt, his first as a full time starting Qb for more then a small handful of games.

Heck, should be fun just watching who we resign to the practice squad after January 2nd, fairly certain Devlin will stick or they wouldn't have protected him on the roster, but otherwise, they could sign anyone even CFLers which would certainly jazz me up..

But this coaching search, assembling a Staff, will be fun to watch.

I am in "I'll believe it when I see it" mode. I'm not sure what will get me to become incredibly hopeful that we'll finally win a playoff game in 2012.

I'm tired of getting false hope only to have it slowly crushed in October when we fall behind (and lose to) the top teams of the AFC.

True, and he would be more likely to win it but MMoore came from nowhere.

Injured Qb from a 2-14 team?

To comeback though, one must have first previously been there to begin with. Moore would be more in line for breakout player of the year, if there were such an award.

possible 5-11 team and the QB wins comeback player of the year? bottom 3 in 4th quarter numbers? i've bought the matt moore stock...he'll do until a franchise qb comes along, if that ever happens, but no way he's comeback player of the year...and he didn't "comeback" from anything

    Which is true..

One of the reasons why I hope Fisher lands in Miami is he is known for developing long shot guys into above avg NFLers, especially defensive backs, this is exactly what we need to compete with the patriots draft pick edge.

Same here, we have been wildly inconsistent this yr though 5 losses by a 2.2 ppg avg/5 losses by a 13.6 ppg avg

    But:

    -Top 10 scoring defense
    -Top 10 running offense
    -Top 10 ST unit
    -1k Wr/1k Rb
-#12 rated Qb in the NFL
    -Under the salary cap
-all of our draft picks intact
-2 starters up for free agency, langford and soliai

This is not a team devoid of reason to look forward if we make the right moves this offseason.

You cannot be serious. As I put in another post, Miami is NOT going to get a big name coach and if anyone thinks Billick is a big name then you are nuts. Gruden and or Fisher and most certainly not Cowher are not coming to Miami.

Ross screwed the pooch when he went on his supposed clandestine trip last year in an attempt to lure Harbaugh while Tony was still employed. That soured the better of the best coaches. Through in the fact his GM accompanied him on the trip screwed it worse. No decent HC is going to have faith in Ireland ever again, period.

We have no QB to speak of, we have little chance in the draft of moving up to get a good qb. Our solid all pro LT now has a bad knee, shoulder concerns and a torn bicep which requires surgery and IF LUCKY, he will make some of training camp.

We have no right side of an offensive line. We have one running back, Bush who although got 1000 yards rushing, is not a pile driver for short yardage.

Our top receiver is tied for most drops in the league.

Top coaches want top players and the top player Miami is missing is a QB.

I do not see anyone on the " A " list that will want to come here. That leaves the " Retread " list of coaches for us. The retread will bring in his retread stafff who will bring in their retread players and Ross will make a vague attempt as spinning it all off as " These are the best guys in the business" in small letters you will read, that were available.

There is some QBs out there that will be available in FA that seem they could be pretty decent but not one of them is IMO " solid "

The make believe trip last year that supposedly never happened to lure Harbaugh and keeping Ireland around has put the Dolphins in a not too desirable position.

I know if I was a high commodity HC I would interview with San Diego and even St. Louis before I thought about Miami.

I have a bad feeling we fired Sparano only to hire another Sparano type back.

LOL. It's good to know that you see the glass half full. Please see myprior post Re: learned helplessness.

I agree that getting Gruden, Cowher or Fisher is highly unlikely. Cowher is staying in the broadcast booth. Fisher is probably taking the San Diego position. Rumor mill has Gruden very interested in St Louis. So who's the our next HC? You guess is as good as mine.

If Jerry plays well again Sunday than plug him in as RG or RT next yr.

I don't get all the hate that Ireland gets. Running down the list of players he has gotten us against what he came into is a world of a difference. The grass is always greener, though. The biggest miss is probably Pat White.
