2011: Forever remembered as a terrible year to be a Dolphins fan! Irony: A player twice passed over by the Dolphins breaks Marino's yardage record and we haven't been able to find a QB at a pro bowl level since. Brees is probably going to Canton with another 2-3 good years and Miami's on 15 QB's since Marino hung em up. The only solace in this is that Brees is a class guy and I'd rather it be him than a rival like Brady. Now if this year would end that would be great.
Worse news is next week Tom Brady will pass Brees's new record and our division rival / foe will own the record...
Congrat's to class act Bree's!! No ** involved as I said in another thread. Brady breaks Bree's record next week against the bills. I do hope Bree's gets the most passing yards in the season and not Brady. Saints play the panthers.
It really doesn't mean much anymore. Virtually every year since like 2002 someone has challenged or broken one of his single-season records.
Why are you putting an apostrophe in his name? Anyway, Marino's 5,084 yards to me remain the gold standard, because he did it in a different era. (Well, a semi-different era; Marino benefited from the same 1978 rules changes that Brees, Brady, Manning, etc all benefit from today, but without the additional quarterback protections and receiver athleticism.) The equivalent today would probably be about 7,000 yards. That said, I hate to say it, but Marino's 48 TD record was more relevant to success and a more impressive effort, IMO. Volume stats are just empty numbers; touchdowns are the result of an efficient and effective offense. It's a shame that Tom effing Brady of all people holds the current record at 50.
To be honest i dont think Ive ever met a Saints fan other then Saint Greg who occasionally posts here. Are they really a dislikeable group? On what level...Are they Jet-fan-intolerable?
eh mostly the who dat that gets on my balls. I met some after katrina and they stayed here after they were relocated..................... they are like a 1/10th jets dislikeable, but that's a lot of dislikeability for me..........
Congrats to Drew Brees. No asterisks, no excuses. The dude simply broke it, and does so in less games, mind you. Class act all the way, and I couldn't think of anyone else I would want to break it, other than perhaps another Dolphins QB.
Congrats to Brees. He deserves it and he's a class act. Sure glad we passed on him being a Dolphin TWICE! Decisions have consequences.
Impossible.... Only Eagle fans challenge the infinite degree of douchebaggery Jet fans are famous for.
From my experience they're fine... I am sure they have a few bad ones but every team does. As for Brees, I dislike seeing Marino's record fall but it couldn't go to a better person.
You mean Brees cannot play next week and add on to his total? They both have one more game and Brees is currently ahead, so who's to say he won't stay there.
Should this be reason enough for Wannstedt and Saban to be the two most despised people in franchise history? I'd think so, and to add insult to injury, Saban could have drafted Rodgers too, so he fvcked us twice long term.
Jerk cost me my fantasy title with that last garbage touchdown.Lol, I did like him but screw him now I hope the falcons kick thier butts the next time they play them in the playoffs.
Saban made a decision based on medical advice. Can't fault him for that. He wanted Brees, and wanted him BADLY. You can't hate him for that. Aaron Rodgers is a beast. But I really think the 3 years he sat helped him big time.
It's a different era but doesn't diminish what Brees has done. Some perspective though: Marino 1984, 16 games: 564att, 362comp, 9.0ya, 64.2% comp Breees through 15 games: 622att, 440comp, 8.2ya, 70.7% comp 60% comp ratio was rare back then especially for someone who would toss it downfield.
Not nearly the same level!! The saints get what being a crappy team does to your city and fanbase for so long. The Phins are starting to see that now so we got a lot in common. The Jets just think they are good without ever really winning or accomplishing anything.
Once you see a pack of middle aged white men screaming, "WHO DAT? WHO DAT? WHO DAT?", it churns the stomach.
I've lived in New Orleans for almost 20 years. Generally speaking, Saints fans never ever thought they'd live long enough to see a Super Bowl win. They never thought they'd have a team this good. Consequently, they're not arrogant about their success. They're mostly bewildered by it. I can see why the "Who-Dat" chant is annoying to some.
Congrats to Brees. That many yards is impressive no matter how you look at it. He deserves any praise he gets. To me, Marino's 1984 season will always be more impressive, given the circumstances. If you were going to compare it to another sport, it'd be like a guy in his second year in MLB breaking the single-season record for hits, or a guy in the NBA breaking the single season record for points scored. We'll probably never see anything like it again in ANY sport.
Danny's 1984 season is the GOLD standard. All the passing records that have been broken are a product of rule changes. Yes, Dan benefited from rule changes but in 1984 receivers still got mugged and quarterbacks got the **** kicked out of them. Playing quarterback today is like playing a 7 on 7 no contact drill in practice.
I was in the French Quarter when they won the superbowl so I've heard enough who dats to last a lifetime. That being said, I think as a group the Saints fans I've met are a likeable bunch. I try and get to New Orleans at least once a year and I've never really met a ****head Saints fan. They never get too down on their team when they lose like other fanbases I've seen.
Just read the link in your post and I was flabbergasted!!!! This Bart dude is such a freaking hater and pretty much an idiot! When Marino broke the records of Dan Fouts, Fran Tarkington and other past NFL greats, did anyone belittle or put down Fouts, Tarkington, et al? Of course not! They praised the accomplishment and the player for his prowess without tarnishing the contributions made to the game by his predecessors. Quarterbacks such as Brady, Brees, Rodgers and the other gunslingers of the league owe their success to players such as Fouts and Marino. Fouts was a passing quarterback ahead of his time when he played. Marino came along and took that to a level that no one could have ever imagined, and as a result, kids who come up through the college ranks playing quarterback strive to be the next greatest passer. When Marino retired, the NFL couldn't find the quarterback record book because Dan took it with him...he owned just about every one of them, but with Marino taking quaterback play to the next level, it was only a matter of time before someone took their play to the next level and break Marino's records. Two of the last three recent quarterbacks who have broken Marino records have been class acts and my congratulations to them, but the belittle Marino's accomplishments simply because he never did win the Super Bowl is simply stupid.
Trust me if you meet them you'll hate them more. If you dont think its possible, trust me it is. That said a few of my best friends are Jets fans but they are the rare exceptions that arent bums Eh, its better then a lot of other crap. And people wonder the NY Post is considered to be a rag...thanks Bart Hubbard for proving again why. Youre not even good enough to write for the Daily News or NY AM.
