Kenyon Martin bought out his contract, but he can't sign with a team till March, when he gains his full release. (rules of his contract state, that he can sign with a team, when his Chinese team is eliminated. Their playoffs are in March.)

FIBA rules prevent any player signed to a contract in China from signing anywhere else til their contracts are officially over. If the Chinese team were to grant a player such a release they would face stiff fines from the Chinese Basketball League. China makes this abundantly clear which is why so many people questioned why Wilson Chandler, Kenyon Martin and JR Smith would do something like that. Clearly it's a Denver thing. Smith and Martin are unrestricted free agents in March while Denver still holds Chandlers rights as a RFA

can you point out where I said the Heat don't improve while everyone else does? I mean I don't recall typing that or reading my posts saying such a thing. Maybe I just think the improvements a loaded young team can make are greater then anything the Heat can do short of adding another superstar.

I mean I think it was pretty unbiased. I put a team I hate more then any other basketball team in the finals rather then making some homer pick. But because I picked them to lose its like :omg: you're such a hater. I swear it's becoming very jet fan like.

The thing is, the heat were 2 games away from being champions, and you admit they improve, yet they lose the finals. So a team that didnt reach the finals, will improve MORE SO than a team (that got better and added pieces) and was 2 games away from winning the whole thing?

Little late to the prom princess...lol

This kid could easily be the difference in 4-5 Heat titles and 1 or 2.

Gotta admidt, I like the kid. Comes to Miami with three big names and all the hype in the world and busts 14 in the 4th! That's moxy.

SO now they NEED to add ANOTHER superstar to just merely keep up with OKC? LOL.

Tonight in Golden State, they will stop the game to honor the 2000-2001 Knicks.

April 29th 2001. Last Knicks playoff win. They ended up losing the series to Toronto 3-2.

That isnt at all what I said. I love how you have a way of twisting words.

Thats your opinion. You are entitled to it just like I am entitled to mine as much as it apparently irks you that I think the Heat will lose in the finals again.

BTW Knick fans...get on your game..the Bulls fans are putting you all to shame.

Last night, Bulls fan was arguing with me on twitter about the Lakers looking better than the Heat so far.

Pound for pound, Bulls fans have been the BEST haters the last two seasons. It's as if the ECF's never happened, and as an astute Bulls fan pointed out to me last week on twitter..."That series was really a 7 game series..the Heat just got lucky to win it in 5"

Yeah..but reasoning is sound. You see...I have every team that was in the playoffs last year, improving. Then Milwaukee will improve enough, while the Knicks regress. Everybody will improve. There will be a black cloud over New York. Like a plague. and the streak will reach 4,500 days before you have a chance to win a playoff game again.

it's not your conclusion. it is your reasoning that is flawed.

How so? Are Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant not coming off their first deep playoff run? Does having Perkins for a full season not matter especially now that he is recovered from that knee injury and has had a time to get used to his teammates instead of having to adapt on the fly in mid season? Are Serge Ibaka and James Harden not steadily improving every year and is it unrealistic for year 3 to be a breakout year of sorts?

There is a ton of top shelf talent in OKC. I just dont see the problem with expecting a bunch of young players to improve to the point where they can beat anyone else in a 7 game series when just last year they lost in 5 to the team that eventually beat your Heat. They lost in 1 game less then your Heat and in my opinion can improve to the point where they too could beat Miami, Chicago, NYK (as much as it bothers me to say it) or anyone else.

There is not one metric that supports an improvement by OKC drastic enough to beat the Heat. Heat is the better defending, rebounding and Offensive team as well. For OKC to overtake Miami in all three categories...impossible. To overtake them in 2 of those categories, would take a massive improvement and massive regression on Miami's part.

    Reason being..it CAN'T, WON'T happen.

The "improvement" reasoning is not sound to argue for OKC over Miami.

ONLY injury can defeat the Heat this year.

Don't blame me. Blame whoever thought it was a good idea to give 15 million a year to Tyson Chandler.

Ok, so how would you have proceeded with the Knicks then? I'm curious to see how much alike we think because to be honest I wouldnt have done the Chandler signing at 14.5M per either. I think the Knicks can eventually win with Chandler but its going to take some creativity.

well...first of all..I thought that signing Melo outright would have been a coup (no trade, keep Gallo and WC), but let's assume that HAD to happen.

and Chris Paul, was realistically not an option, since he was being traded.

    Okay..two things...

    Fire D'Antoni.
Sign Dwight Howard outright in offseason.

That was enough to have coin flip series vs. Heat...unless of course..Amare breaks down.

    That's best case scenario.

    MOST realistic scenario:

    Fire D'Antoni
    Sign Deron Williams outright

Deron, Melo and Amare is enough to compete with the Heat. You add some other pieces, namely a ton of three point shooters. Good ones.

    Nah.

The starting unit is getting big leads...Cole gives energy for the second unit. I like him right where he is. He has no pressure about getting in foul trouble, he is playing free.

Sec, do you think Miami would have been better off playing Chalmers over Cole down the stretch last night for shooting/spacing reasons? Obviously, he knocked down those two shots to close it out for us late, but that's not really his game, right?

    Actually, that is his game.

But there was another thing at play there. Mario Chalmers actually kinda owns Derrick Rose. He has big games against him, defensively. But as much as he does well vs. Rose, he gets absolutely destroyed by Rajon Rondo. Rondo abuses him, and I think Spo just tried something different against him. Rondo is Chalmers nemesis.

It's going to be a long season arguing about the Heat. It seems a pretty futile exercise, but I might as well join in -

They're the best team in the league. It isn't even really close. It is a down year in terms of real contenders (not saying this to disparage the Heat, who would be a contender in any season, but it is the truth) and the young teams (Chicago, OKC and Memphis is you're into that kind of thing) aren't good enough yet to challenge the Heat.

But I've been saying this since last season - the Heat have plenty of talent. It doesn't matter who they add or how many games they win in the regular season - they (and specifically LeBron) have to prove that they can get over the hump in the playoffs. The only team that can beat them is themselves, and there really isn't anything in the regular season they can do to impress me - because I already consider them nearly unstoppable.

That has to carry over to the playoffs. LeBron is an animal in games like that Xmas day game - where there is very little REAL pressure and he can make the highlight plays. He HAS to do that in the playoffs. They almost did it without him last year, but they need him to show up.

Obviously health is the other factor - the compressed season could be bad for a guy like Wade that has battled injuries in the past.
