I dont know how many of you like sports radio and all but I rather listen to a sports media that covers the dolphins then the national media but still I seem to be adicted to sports radio. This Morning one of the local stations which the host were both Dallas fans were ripping the dolphins orgination as a whole and they were mentioning the Jason Taylor thing and they were dissing Jason by saying he never made big plays and the dolphins never won a meaingfull game while he has been with the team. hey dont even think he should have ever been invited to any pro bowls let alone be a hall of fame canidate. I agree Jason isnt a hall of famer but to say he never made big plays was dumb. so with all the bashing of this orginaztion when was the last time miami won a big game ? I know we have been to only one playoff game this decade and we got blown out , but is that really on the defense ? I fully beleive that we have been so mediocer by being conservative that we just have had no success in the playoffs. Futhermore , lack of qb lack of a good oline and only Chambers and maybe Gadsden that were playmakers at the position. guys I am so pissed off at how we never seem to get the studs like Calvin Johnson , Demrcus Ware Brandon Pettigrew and WE HAD A CHANCE TO GET Drew Brees twice, and Aaron Rodgers. Ready or not I need the dolphins to go out and win and win it all , for i wont live much longer so its past time for miami to win it all and do it soon. sad that i cant remember the last big playoff game that we won. are you guys getting impaitent ?
To answer your question the last big game we won was beating the jets in 2008 to win the afc east. But other than that I guess when lamar smith ran for 200 yds and we beat the colts in the first round of the playoffs.I think that was in 2000.
I'd say the last big game we won was the 09 (or was it 2010?) Patriots game when Wake hit Brady and Crowder intercepted the ball to end the game. Of course, we then had the awful 2 minute drill vs the Bills with "the wrong personnel grouping" and peed away the game to the Bills the next week effectively knocking us out of the playoffs. In 09 and in 10, we were in position to make it to the playoffs, if we had won, we promptly choked the games away and finished 0-3 to end the season.
I'm pretty sure Jason Taylor is a slam dunk for the HOF. You won't find many (if any) voters NOT voting him in. Most TD's in the history of the game for a DL, 6 INT's, 6th in sacks all time. I mean, what else does the guy have to do. You can't blame Jason Taylor for not winning a playoff game in forever. The guy was consistently our best player and did all he could to help us win. The offense was just plain anemic for 10+ years. And I would go as far to say that Jason Taylor was on the same level as Demarcus Ware when JT was in his prime. I don't see the Cowboy's fans point of view AT ALL. That's like us saying Emmit Smith shouldn't go to the HOF b/c his offensive line, Moose Johnson, and his QB were so good that he leaned on their backs his whole career.
The Dolphins have had many significant victories during the time they have been a member of the professional football league. As far as when they had their last BIG win, that would be on January 13,1974. On that date they won their second consecutive Super Bowl. Since the object of every team each season is to win the Super Bowl. All other wins during the season really means absolutely nothing, if your team doesn't end up as the winner of the Super Bowl at the end of the season. So in the history of the Dolphins, the team has had two BIG wins, with a lot of exciting and thrilling victories over the course of their 46 year history.
I was at that game! What a game! Funny how the cowboys fans are calling the Dolphins organization a joke... have they not seen how bad the cowboys organization looked the last couple of years? When was the last time they won a big game?
Jets Phins for the AFCE as others have said... other than that, I'd say the game against the Ravens that prevented us form going 0-16.
I've heard that crap before. It's horsepuckey and logically it's a tautology, since it automatically assumes that any game we did win wasn't a big game.
I'd argue the last "big game" we won was week 15 in 2002 against the Raiders at home. Big game, division leaders and we pysically beat them up. We had our destiny in our hands to clinch home field, all we had to do was beat a terrible Vikings team (lobster traps) and a mediocre Patriots team (21-10 half time lead). We missed the playoffs altogether. How Wannstedt was not fired on the ****ing plane ride home I'll never know.
Guess it depends on your definition of a big game, but this is the game that came to mind for me when I read the question in the title. It was essentially a playoff game against arguably our most hated rival.
In Brandon Marshall fashion Chris Carter dropped a TD pass that would have given us the win. I guess things never change.
If they're from Dallas, just tell them to stick to screwing steers as a pastime. Other than that ask them when the hell someone from Dallas said anything relevant.........ever. I lived next to Texas for years and the day I left was one day too long to get away from that state.
I merely stated that in that big game we lost because Chris Carter did exactly the same thing that Brandon Marshall does on a weekly basis. Blew a chance for 6 points. We all see it. I'm not bull****ting anyone just telling the truth. I'll go as far as to say we won't win a big game until we can find an elite WR that can consistently catch the ball in the end zone.
I still love the Lamar Smith game. You're down 14-0 at the half. Fiedler throwing INT's all over the place. Came out and ran it down their throats. Smith had 239 yds I believe. Jed Weaver catches a TD....... The Bears Monday nighter was a big game too. Yeah not the big one we all our looking for but still big Dolphin wins IMO.
It's not ludicrous. He's not a lock; there are a lot of HOF voters who don't like voting for great players who spent their careers on bad teams. Taylor has a great case for HOF entry but the personal idiocy of a good amount of voters means he has an uphill climb. Zach Thomas, however, is never getting in the HOF. Ever. Even though he's statistically similar to Ray Lewis without the INTs, he won't get anywhere near the HOF.
That Monday nighter against the Jets in '09 was pretty effing big. Remember all the hype Rex was doing before his first season in NY? Remember all the back and forth between the Jets/Rex Ryan and us/Channing Crowder over the summer? We were the defending AFC East champs with our sexy Wildcat. They were big talking and bullying. Not to mention we're already the biggest of rivals, geographically and otherwise. That was a MASSIVE game with MASSIVE hype. The nation was pumped for it. The stadium was electric. And we delivered. The teams combined for 35 fourth quarter points. Chad Henne had the drive of his career, finished off by a Wildcat TD on 4th down to win it. It was a bruising, physical game that lived up to the build up. And it carried the NFL news for a week. I remember Jim Rome saying, "It's Friday, and yet we're still talking about the Dolphins-Jets game from four days ago". Jason Taylor never made big plays? He holds the NFL record for fumbles returned for TD. He also has three TD's by INT. He was 2006 Defensive Player of the Year despite playing the entire season with plantar fasciitis. And on and on. Those guys know our team like a 30-second SportsCenter clip.
Our pro bowl receiver isn't going anywhere soon. He had a 10 TD season in his last full season not playing with Chad Henne and has done much better since Matt Moore has been put in. He's also averaging almost 15 and a half yards per catch this year which is well above the norm for him. Haters are gonna hate you know this just ignore him.
