Who the hell does Florio think he is?

Is this guy a tool or what lately? It seems like has a vendetta against the Dolphins and Ross.. Frankly, I'm sick of his jabs and yellow journalism that passes off as news. This guy is a real tool. This last article basically states that the Dolphins are either being used by Fisher to drive up his price with the Rams, or will force Ross to overpay for Fisher.. Basically, this idiot is trying to cover all angles so that regardless of what happens, he can be "right"

I'm getting tired of the pundits with their anti Miami bias.. It's becoming harder and harder to filter through fact from conjecture.

So a big name coach is leveraging his name to get the best contract.. Color me suprised. Florio is stating the obvious, every hot commodity weights options.. Just an excuse to bash the Fins.. And Armando is an even bigger tool. I've listened to and read Armando and his "inside sources" sound a lot like what HE HIMSELF has been preaching before things got hot here..I'd take Barry Jackson's word way before I would trust Armando's "sources"

Armando is a tool, but that has nothing to do with this.
I don't see why you are all upset with what Florio wrote. It's exactly what's happening. I don't see the issue.

So wouldn't that apply to the Rams or any other team he interviews with? Florio could bash the Rams and say the same thing. Armando's "report" has EVERYTHING to do with what Florio is insinuating. Without Armando "reporting" that Fins are willing to outbid all teams, Florio has nothing to bash the team with.

Yeah, never mind that Fisher "left Miami with a good impression of the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross."

I don't remember an owner ever being shamed for insisting he'll pay what it takes to get the coach he wants.

    Fair enough.
Just seems like you're looking for a reason to bash Florio, which is fine by me. But in this case I don't see what's so bad about what he's reporting.

I didn't take as Ross being shamed. I just think Florio was saying Ross is going to have to outbid the Rams. Or that Fisher is using the Dolphins visit to get more from St. Louis.
Both of which are probably, in part, true.

Lately? This has been Florio's MO from day one. Run some pseudo news piece based on a tidbit someone else has established and bank on some poor soul taking him serious enough to get upset and link it.

Mike Florio approves of this thread.

Your doing the exact same thing to Ross! Looking for every reason to bash him. He has people turning over every stone in search of the next coach and you acted like the sky fell down. Now your taking what Florio said as gold when things like this are exactly how Florio makes his mark. He takes things people say and puts his own little tweaks in them in hopes of hitting on them....

I'm not bashing Ross. At least not for this. I don't care how much money he wants to throw at Fisher. I never said there was anything wrong with Ross saying he'll pay whatever it takes.
I was defending Florio (*shutters*) for the article. The OP was bashing Florio, all I'm saying is the article is probably true.

I have to believe that what Florio is stating is exactly what is happening. There is no doubt that if Fisher is the coach Ross wants to hire, Fisher is using this knowledge to drive up his asking price with all the teams who are interested in hiring him.

I see absolutely nothing wrong in Fisher trying to get as much money as he can by pitting one billionaire owner against another one. As far as Florio's negative remarks concerning Ross is concerned. The actions by Ross since he became the majority owner of the Dolphins is the reason he is seen in such a negative manner by so many fans and reporters. If Ross wants to change these negative views in regards to his ownership of the Dolphins, all he needs to do is put a winning product on the field. Until he does, he will continue to be seen as the inept NFL owner which he has been for the last three years.

I reject the characterization of this particular coaching search as either "clumsy" or "klutzy."

How is it clumsy or klutzy to be willing to pay whatever it takes to get the coach you want?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I assumed an owner who's willing to spend was seen as a plus by coaches. If Fisher goes elsewhere, it's not gonna be because Ross was willing to meet his price.

Ross is a favorite whipping boy of Mike Florio. I think it's coloring his judgement here.

I suppose the Glazers have it right by him. They do everything on the cheap. They've tanked the team and they've lost the support of their fan base.

Apparently Florio would be happy if Ross said, "We have a fair price in mind and I am not willing to give whatever it takes for Fisher. If the Rams want to outbid me then so bet it. I won't overpay dammit!"

It's another example of klutzy, clumsy journalism in which the writer thinks he "knows" the owners motive by claiming he is trying to scare off other owners.

Nothing points to it being true except that fact that every single person would try to get as much money as he can. I also was listening to the radio today and there were a few talk show hosts saying that Miami has the best opening for a Head Coaching job and that Fisher will probably WANT to come here...

Which makes the article true. That's what Florio said.
And I've heard talking heads say nobody in their right mind would want to come to Miami as things are now. I guess it depends on who you listen to or watch.
Bottom line for me is, I didn't think this Florio article was off base. He said Miami would have to outbid St. Louis. True. And he said in the end, it might not matter becasue Fisher may pick the Rams over Miami anyway. While not necessarily true, it might end up being true and I don't see that as bashing Ross and the Dolphins.

Part of what Florio and co do with their site, in common with modern news media in general, is drive certain narratives. This brings people back to follow stories and generates traffic, including those who keep checking for posts they can object to in the comments. It also allows for pieces referring to things like "growing criticism of x amongst the media" when that growing criticism they are referring to is generated solely by their own site, at least until other news outlets pick up the same narrative.

Just base your own opinions on actual evidence and don't put much stock in the opinions of others who don't do the same.

Oh and try not to sound like a condescending *** like I just did.

How would what I said make Florio's comments true???????????

Miami, being the top coaching destination, would not drive Ross into overpaying!! According to those who think its the best job opening.....

That's if you believe Miami is the top destination. Not everyone believes that.
I think if Ross does hire Fisher he will end up overpaying. Simply because he will have to outbid other suitors.

Thats what I based my initial comment off so it would not make what Florio said, true! There is a rich tradition that goes with Miami football. It is a football town for sure. So unless a coach comes out and says, Miami is not a desired location to coach, it is....

I guess we agree to disagree.
Miami used to to be a top destination. But the way things currently are, I'm not so sure that's the case. I guess we'll find out.

It depends on how good you think the Dolphins are right now. They only have 3 big free agents Solia, Langford and Carey. Chances are they already have a pretty good replacement for Carey in John Jerry (if he continues to play like he did in the second half of the year.)

If you believe that as a coach you can coach the team up and bring in some impact players, Miami is a much better spot than the Rams as they have a quarterback and some defensive players and that is it.

Miami having a QB is debatable, but I get your point.
Miami is a QB, a playmaker or 2 on offense, a pass rusher, and a couple DB's away from being serious Super Bowl contender.
I think the FO and the way it operates scares potential coaches away more than the talent (or lack thereof, if that's what you believe) on the roster does.
